It’s nice to go back to the basics, relax and enjoy the fact it’s about fishing not how big or how many. Really enjoyed this video. This is the type of fishing in Florida I remember while stationed there before deployment to Vietnam. The hidden coves and back road bridges. Many thanks for reminding me of a great time and how to recapture that again.

for gut hooked fish I made a tool that can easily be made from a length of cane or a dry branch about the size of a pencil with a v notch on the end... anything will work even a ball point pen casing... as long as it's smooth and the butt will fit the inside diameter of the hook. keep slight pressure on the line while pushing the saddle of the hook until the point comes out of the fishes gullet...the hook is automatically safely held by the v notch. then keeping pressure on the line easily remove the hook. especially helpful for c&r with sunfish.

Steve, it is really funny that you posted this video. I was just driving my truck home from the lakes in the area (after checking to see that they are still frozen and I cant make a fishing video today) and thought it would be good to make a video about these little roadside places that you pass but pay no attention to. Little streams going under the road. Sometimes big carp in there, but no doubt plenty of pan fish. Then, I get home and see you uploaded this video.... on the same wavelength.

I like this series. Could you do one about the proper handling of the fish once you finally catch one. For the fisherman's safety (how not to lip a cuda) and how to return a fish so you can catch him again. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Steve, it was nice to hear a little bit about your personal adventures during those earlier days in Ft Lauderdale and how you started out with some fun fishing. Those areas which are easily overlooked by may really had several nice sized snappers. It was surprisingly relaxing and enjoyable to see you revisit the fundamentals and simple areas we used to go to, before we progressed into Kayaking and Offshore. Places like this is where it all started.

That was exactly what I needed. This was my first weekend in Florida, fished saltwater all day yesterday and today from my kayak and didn't catch a thing, I'll be honest I was very frustrated but watching this helped calm me down. I think I need to relax and start small like you said!

Great information, looking forward to my visit to Key West, have a 4 piece ugly stick which I use up at the cruise liner terminal when I visit, always seem to catch some fish up there at night. Going to try some other places next visit as well. Have to cycle everywhere once we arrive so will take a look at getting to the submarine pens and some of the other little canals

All swallowed hooks are fully removable.......you need a stiff flat piece of wood that will fit into the fish's mouth.......you slide it down the leader until it contacts the bend of the hook.........hold the line and remove the hook by pressing downwards....away from the hook wound.....then gently lift out of the fish's mouth...........just one snag .....you may need a third hand to always do this successfully!

Ill be in Key West next week. I hope to do some shore fishing, mostly mid-morning to mid-afternoon a few days. Do you have any tips for locations and baits that could help me? I was planning on hitting the jetty at Smathers beach and the White St. pier. Thanks for any advice, love your channel.

Love your vids man been subbed for a while just one thing. When you release fish sometimes (eg the first fish in this vid) why do you launch them into the air like you do? Ive seen fish die this way and its a bit upsetting/unnecesary
