This made me feel so much better about my progression. Ive been able to kickflip for 7 years but they never looked pretty. I've decided to reteach myself to kickflip, put my ego aside and watch tutorials again, even after skating for 13ish years. I had a bad habit just like Dan, and always flicked to early and out instead of forward and delayed. Relearning muscle memory is a challenge. Great video. They already feel better!

@Shoefae6 жыл бұрын
When I used to skate with my friends I was always telling them that this is the way to get kickflips proper. Flipping off of the side may be easier to get it around fast, but it will never be as clean and consistent as flicking your toes from the top corners, more of a diagonal. Getting that back foot up and out of the way also really helps with positioning the catch and lifting the board, just like he said. I like to think of it like when you're learning the sliding your front foot forward part of an Ollie, focusing on levelling it out on your way to the flip.
@shoe_gaze4 жыл бұрын

@FreneticZetetic2 жыл бұрын
"It's an ollie North with a flick", and "I''m doing them wrong but thinking right" is so spot on. Dan nailed it here. I feel we learn the kickflip based entirely around popping then just kicking, instead of leveling out THEN kicking. The former is what causes issues with kickflipping over and off stuff, I've found; there's no real technique you're just getting lucky. This helped immensely! Same age as you, Dale. Skating since 2000.
@DarmokAtTanagra10 ай бұрын
This isn't right tho. If you wait until you're leveled out to flick, it's too late. You have to flick midway into your pop/jump, through the nose, and that levels the board while it still has upward momentum.

Still trying to relearn kickflips with the delayed flick with the Corrigan method, so hard to nail down the timing. Popping high and delaying the flick just ends up in half-flips every single time UNLESS I apply the trick of imagining an invisible "flip" button right in front and below the nose, which controls my flick and makes it faster.

A really good kickflip is the best feeling flip trick. That and a good 360 flip Crazy how that spot looks so incredibly fun that first spot looked when anyone else wouldn't give it a second look. I mean obviously if you don't skate you aren't looking at that sort of thing but still. Aside from the flat gap, just a few long grinded sections of curbs and a Manny pad.
