This made me feel so much better about my progression. Ive been able to kickflip for 7 years but they never looked pretty. I've decided to reteach myself to kickflip, put my ego aside and watch tutorials again, even after skating for 13ish years. I had a bad habit just like Dan, and always flicked to early and out instead of forward and delayed. Relearning muscle memory is a challenge. Great video. They already feel better!

It's that front shoulder, don't open your body up, that'll make you not pull them up and flick too early. Try starting out holding your front arm across your body .
@Shoefae
@Shoefae 6 жыл бұрын
When I used to skate with my friends I was always telling them that this is the way to get kickflips proper. Flipping off of the side may be easier to get it around fast, but it will never be as clean and consistent as flicking your toes from the top corners, more of a diagonal. Getting that back foot up and out of the way also really helps with positioning the catch and lifting the board, just like he said. I like to think of it like when you're learning the sliding your front foot forward part of an Ollie, focusing on levelling it out on your way to the flip.

"It's an ollie North with a flick", and "I''m doing them wrong but thinking right" is so spot on. Dan nailed it here. I feel we learn the kickflip based entirely around popping then just kicking, instead of leveling out THEN kicking. The former is what causes issues with kickflipping over and off stuff, I've found; there's no real technique you're just getting lucky. This helped immensely! Same age as you, Dale. Skating since 2000.
@DarmokAtTanagra
@DarmokAtTanagra 10 ай бұрын
This isn't right tho. If you wait until you're leveled out to flick, it's too late. You have to flick midway into your pop/jump, through the nose, and that levels the board while it still has upward momentum.

Started skating from the time I could walk. Like I was on a board as early as 3 and then I stopped a few years ago around 17. I’m 21 now getting back into it and I lost EVERYTHING besides how to ride and my Ollies. It sucks and re-learning is hell because it’s even harder now. My kickflips used to be spot on, clean and steezy every time. I’m glad I found this video. lesson to be learned here kids: DONT STOP SKATING IF YOU LOVE IT UNLESS YOU HAVE A DEVASTATING INJURY OR SOME SHIT. Seriously, I thought it would be like riding a bike coming back but it’s almost like I’m starting brand new and it almost kills your motivation.

I know exactly the struggle with that, I have rolled my front ankle a thousand times and my kickflips just don't feel right. People tell me that they look fine and I should be happy with them but I don't care how it looks when I skate, all I care about is how it feels and when something feels sick that's the best feeling ever and that's basically what's skateboarding is about for me.

Still trying to relearn kickflips with the delayed flick with the Corrigan method, so hard to nail down the timing. Popping high and delaying the flick just ends up in half-flips every single time UNLESS I apply the trick of imagining an invisible "flip" button right in front and below the nose, which controls my flick and makes it faster.

A really good kickflip is the best feeling flip trick. That and a good 360 flip Crazy how that spot looks so incredibly fun that first spot looked when anyone else wouldn't give it a second look. I mean obviously if you don't skate you aren't looking at that sort of thing but still. Aside from the flat gap, just a few long grinded sections of curbs and a Manny pad. It's the type of spot you and your buddies go to warm up and end up staying there forever

what helps me is doing moving ollies repeatedly back to back to back( no pushing inbetween) until i come to come to a complete stop and do 3 stationary ollies. Then when i attempt my kickflips they become more boned and my backfoot catches it and the front trucks dip lower then the back trucks. Trust me this works. It builds control.

front foot... think ollie north and then flick.. back foot... watch your back foot throughout the process and get that back foot to go high and catch the board in the air

i've known how to kickflip for 4 years yet they've always looked gross and i never could figure out how to do one that didn't look totally disgusting,, but this actually makes sense compared to all those other vids out there

Yo it’s crazy how people can be skating for so long and still not have a flip trick or smth I’m not trying to brag at all I swear but I learned a kickflip in like 3 months but I landed a varial flip around 1 month into skating and I didn’t even have a Ollie down good or knew how to pop shuv

@@osoblizz7937 dude just learn at your own pace. Don't even sweat it. I was so worried that it was taking me forever but I just love skating. If it takes you 2 years, but you love every minute of it, what does it matter? Just have fun man.

I understand the pain tho. I've been skating for a good 17 years now, and I must say I can switch flip better than I could ever do a regular kickflip. Also I have never been able to frontside flip or tre flip and its the most irritating thing ever.

If I'm trying to go over something or just going crazy, I go off the noise for more height. Like you're dude Dan said "physics". You can pop harder an get higher. Dan's ninja-flips are SIC, like a Ollie North. Now when I go off the side it's a defensive side of skate, flat or a lucky ass line. Take this with a grain of salt, my old ass is mostly not landing anything but ollies.
