THE OAK RIDGE BOYS - Elvira
"Elvira" is a song written and originally performed by Dallas Frazier in 1966. Though a minor hit for Frazier at the time of release, the song became a bigger and much more famous country and pop hit by The Oak Ridge Boys in 1981. "Elvira" is now considered one of the Oak Ridge Boys' signature songs.

@@gund2281 No doubt. His name is Richard Sterban, and I'm happy to say that he's still alive and active and recently (as of last year) back to performing with the Oak Ridge Boys. Interestingly enough, he's originally from New Jersey, a bit of a surprise considering the obvious country music styling of the Boys.

In 1977 I had just bought a new AMC Hornet AMX with the 304 V8. In 1978 I had a Craig AM FM stereo an 8 track tape player with the 4 speaker sub sound installed. I had bought the Oak Ridge Boys greatest hits 8 track tape, and would just crank up the volumn to that Elvira song. I'm sure I drove a lot of people nuts at a stop light in the day playing it loud in that AMX, really miss those days, sigh.

They sang Elvira before it was released at Radio City Music Hall, Wheeling West Virginia on a Saturday when my wife and I were in the audience. It was a live radio show up and down the eastern seaboard of the US. Rusty Frizell was the preact before them and sang "Gonna Get A Whino" (to decorate our home). Some 30 years later to the exact date they sang at Wheeling, they sang it at the Windsor Ontario (Canada) Casino and the wife and I were in the audience as we lived close to the casino. What a great experience that was to be there excatly 30 years later. They could still break a leg!

It’s amazing to me how she can play 2 different tempos at once! I can’t even play an instrument, but I know excellent musicians when I hear them play! Keep playing!
