This is just one of about 4 Oberoi hotels we stayed in when touring India. The one at the Taj Mahal in Agra was beautiful but the best we thought was in Jaipur where you could sit having a bath watching wild life and pheasants parading past your window! Sensational hotels.

I think you are right travel expert, forgive me. We also stayed at the hotel you mentioned. We enjoyed staying at every single one of them over 2 weeks and then finished up with 2 weeks in glorious Goa.

Sir Edwin Lutyens died in London in 1944. This building does not look Lutyen-esque either. However, the processional space down past the grand piano looks very much like something he’d have done; and the commentary said it has recently had a major renovation. The simplicity and clarity of its facades are top quality. I’m now in two minds!

I have stayed at many Oberoi hotels, and I agree with you that they are spectacular! (the Oberoi in Udaipur is one of my top hotel picks for anywhere in the world) I will have to disagree with you though that the Oberoi New Dehli is the best hotel in the capital. I think The Imperial is hands down the best hotel in the capital. It has one of the best spas I have ever been to, and my room my Art Deco room at the Imperial was phenomenal.

I like the Oberoi properties but the ones in the Indian metros have steep tariffs vs equivalent hotels and lot of alternatives. You can get a room for much cheaper than the Oberoi in Delhi at the Leela Palace which is centrally located and built only in the past 10-15 years. The rooms at Leela are bigger than any other hotel chain. And I can always go with Andaz or other Hyatt/Marriott or Taj/ITC properties in Delhi. Oberoi’s best properties to stay are the Raj Vilas, Amar Vilas and Uday Vilas. Their properties in Indian metros no longer offer the best bang for the buck with the competitors. And unlike the Taj group or even the ITC group, they don’t have that expansive spread of properties in India or abroad. They simply don’t offer the best value for money anymore in their hotels in Delhi, Bombay, Calcutta and Bangalore which all have comparable or better properties at lower tariff. I still recommend them in Agra and Rajasthan even with the competition particularly in Udaipur and Jaipur. They used to run the Mena House in Giza but it has passed on to Marriott group now.

c Jones The Oberoi hotels at Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore are too expensive and there is too many other choices at better prices. The one in Kolkata is kinda ok. The Leela in Delhi was fine when I stayed. I can’t comment on the construction if it is recent. Their properties in the metros offer better bang for the buck. I’d prefer Oberoi in Agra, Udaipur and Jaipur because they are unique but others, only if it’s at an attractive rate.

Oberoi is expensive because of its guaranteed service..Taj and ITC are better in tariff proportions but they can't compete with oberoi when it comes to the service and their undivided dedication and attention to guests. Had the chance of staying in taj Mahal palace wing and no doubt it's beautiful but still it couldn't compete in terms of service when compared to the oberoi

Great video! Just a fact check - The Oberoi was designed by Habib Rehman, a master modernist architect, and one of the prominent architects of a then newly independent India. Sir Edwin Lutyens (not Edward) designed the 'New Delhi' precinct at the edge of which Oberoi sits (the huge green expanse you saw from the rooftop) half a century before Oberoi came into existence. The Old Delhi you refer to in the video is quite a distance away - but well worth the visit. :)

Excellent hotel with good services 👍 It was very similar to four seasons hotels . Welcome Amenity was very simple 🍎🤔🍎 . Very good breakfast buffet (It was like Emirates first class airport lounge - Fine Dinning) . Also excellent swimming pool and stores 👍

Namaste. Serene, modern beauty. Eggs Benedict is one of my faves, however, it would be lovely for you to be a bit more adventurous with the breakfast selection. How about trying a local regional breakfast? The music is lovely, however, sometimes I wish you would play indigenous music or no music at all. I was at this hotel back in 1998. Beautiful hotel. Truly five stars. Unfortunately when you leave the property and head out it’s a different story. That was my first and last time in that country. Have zero plans to ever go back.
