They certainly need more depth than the current 'snobbish bigfoot' characterisation.

I think this is why we haven't seen them in ESO. Idiot apemen who dress up as their high elf supremacist overlords has too many paralels to racist cartoon imagery. If they eventually come back to the games I think they'll be very different than the descriptions we currently have of them.

can we get a video on the "ice tribes" from elder scrolls travels: dawnstar? theyre canon but theyre a race of people we havent seen since that spinoff so i think an investigation is warranted

I severely hope we get to see a return or a avid follower of the Ape necromancer. That sounds hilariously awesome and unique for a fantasy as Elder Scrolls going from Morrowind to Oblivion then Skyrim has become too much like generic other fantasy universes and has slowly widdled out the esoteric and phenomenal fantastical stories of grandeur with depth and meaning. And an Apeman Lich King with an army of undead sounds great to fit that odd weird aspect.

Morrowind: After a war pursuing the heart of 'god' ending in an entire race disappearing, a great betrayal, and a claiming of tools of beyond godly powers that has lead the 3 traitors to act as gods in their homeland, ruling and demanding worship. You are sent to avenge Azura and your betrayal at the hands of the tribunal as a reincarnation, the Nerevarine. (Beautiful, poetic, Unique) Oblivion: Demons from hell are invading through portal gates to take over the mortal realm. The Emperor of a great Empire has seen your face in his dreams and demands you find his lost son, the last chance to stop this demon invasion lead by a Daedric prince as he is the only one with dragon's blood in his veins to conjure the power of Akatosh. You become a hero and a Daedric god yourself, sheogorath, through your periling adventures and overcomes every faction and quest with great skill. (Heroic, classic hell invasion, gets more unique in the details and ending) Skyrim: Dragons come back from the past after being sent into the future cause thats a problem for future people, not my problem. You are narrowly saved accidently by the dragon leader who kills a bunch of people, misses you, and just leaves. Be main character with powerful ability, defeat dragons cause only I can eat their soul though technically other people can kill them. Also, they just respawn forever anyway. Yell at dragon leader, he cry, he die, world saved even though army of dragons still running around, guess you just have to kill them all. (Generic dragon story, not unique besides tiny inspiration of old lore like shouts, its not much of a story for an 'army of dragons come to eat the world' and then they do nothing but, some random attacks disorganized and separate from each other with no real rhyme or reason even ignoring major factions and just killing farmers for some reason. Ancient dragon 'soldiers' from the past come to take over the world and they just commit terrorism individually and getting shot up by guards.) An enemy/animal species returning isnt a story in itself. Thats like making a cliffracer return a main story entirely. Besides the BS 'tell, dont show' storytelling, there is no way to know this is even an army of dragons lead by Alduin. It just seems like a dragon migration or dragon spawning season is wrecking havoc on locals and for some reason at the end there is a dragon in heaven eating souls, which is about as interesting as it gets. The Civil War/Great War/Great War 2 leadup is much more interesting. If dragons were actually a big deal or accomplishing ANYTHING, people wouldnt prefer fighting a civil war to murder their neighbors during a dragon apocalypse, cause it wasnt. People, including the Thalmor/Aldmeri, would likely be as focused on the dragon crisis as the oblivion crisis. ESPECIALLY right after the Oblivion crisis left Tamriel in shambles, stopping the exact same thing from being prepared in Skyrim but, with giant dragons sounds pretty important.

The imga seem inspired by the jungle book's Bandar-log and the ape men of pulp stories like conan So the litch tyrant may be inspired by Varne the ape man vampire in conan and marvel lore.

It's really annoying that people limit their interesting concepts just because they think it might be "offensive". Have fun with topics. Exude intellect. Make something interesting or there will be no creative innovation. Qui nihil facit, nihil consequitur.

The depiction of Imga, particularly imitating high elves, sounds more like a racist depiction of a hunter gatherer culture as having no culture independent of the cultures they interact with. It's a common enough pattern in our world when anthropologists of the more racist past interacted with hunter gatherer cultures we use to think that such people had "no culture" and were "given" culture by colonizers. It's certainly a suspicious pattern that the high elves have too, Imga aren't the only hunter gather culture who are perceived this way by the high elves. There's also the bird people of the Niben who were arrogantly "gifted culture" in exchange for the right to enslave them. I don't think we can really trust a high elf source that says something so outrageous and unlikely as Imga and Bird people accepting high elf elves as superior and high elf culture as 'true' culture. Also: the only named Imga we have was incredibly racist to elves and if we ever see the Imga, if they were actually monkey people who only imitated the culture of racist western colonizers then bethesda would look incredibly racist, but if they were used to point out the flaw of the unreliable narrator in anthropology Bethesda would be making a commentary on racism in anthropology that is actually true while doubling down on an aspect of elder scrolls lore that made the writing so interesting for decades

I imagine there are Imga that do act as described in the books, these ones would be seen more than their tribal counterparts and so are written of. I don't think it would be racist at all to depict the Imga in this way. The lens we view this world through just wouldn't allow such a culture, being warped into "Altmer weebs" of sorts, to be viewed as anything other than tragic and misguided (And of course with that signature Elder Scrolls humour). There are many avenues to explore in this concept, much room for creativity. I have to disagree, it wouldn't make Bethesda look racist in the slightest. Altmer are hardly viewed in a positive light. You would really have to boil it down to what you said "Monkey men given culture by the west." Which in my mind would be an intellectual dishonesty.

It's worth considering that what we hear about them is likely filtered through a lot of racist assumptions. We shouldn't take info about their intelligence or society at face value. Seeing as some people even claim they don't exist, it's pretty clear that most people don't really know anything about them, probably including those who think they do. The fact that they don't claim land or make technological progress is not necessarily a sign of lower intelligence, for example, but it's easy to see why people might think it is and write about them accordingly.

We will never see the apemen nor Falinesti as Todd Howard enjoys mystery staying mystery. When he retires then likely the flood gates of mystery might break to reveal everything lest another Beth soft dev after himself shares that love for mystery and leaving classics as classics.
