walt just did the "just tell me, i wont get mad" parent move on those animators
@gabrielbennett51628 ай бұрын
Knowing how protective Walt was of Mickey and how much he strived to maintain a wholesome image, if this animation ever existed at all, I'm quite sure he would have had any trace of it destroyed. And that's probably for the best.
@icecreamhero23758 ай бұрын
The story sounds implausible for the time period. 1) animation trakes a long time to do 2) you can easily do it secretly now days because all you need is a computer and a tablet but back then animation was harder. Maybe it was a pencil test.

Considering what we know now about storyboard jams, how often they depict material that would never fly on the show itself, and how they are the way they are as a way for the storyboard artists and animators to let off some stress from having to work on a show they're far more stressed with making... Yeah, there's by no means any 100% confirmation that it exists, but it's more likely than we'd give it credit for.

Thanks man! Glad your back to posting! I absolutely adore that film! It’s just wonderful. I lost my 3 grandfathers to cancer so it hit home a lot! I will never be the same again. I doubt the Mickey/Minnie one is true at all. Especially the part of the story that has Roy Disney setting the whole thing up. Roy had to have known his brother would not react well to something like that. The Tinker Bell/Jiminy thing is a LITTLE more plausible, but it’s hard to believe Disney wouldn’t have ever found out about it if they were keeping it around and reusing the gag for years like that. That said, in his autobiography animator Shamus Culhane claimed that as production on Snow White was nearing completion, there was a sudden explosion of pornographic drawings from all over the studio of stuff like Snow White getting gang-raped by the Dwarves and orgies among the Dwarves themselves. He described it as kind of a mass hysteria from a stressed out, overworked staff pushed to the breaking point and under enormous pressure to finish the film in time. I see no reason to disbelieve Culhane, though possibly he exaggerated the extent of it.
@WxIxLxLxIxAxMxS8 ай бұрын
About the Tinker Bell/Jiminy thing, he said that happened during late 50s and early 60s. That's when Walt's health declined and he soon after....died. so it's quite possible Walt was too preoccupied to find out about it!
@Marbles4718 ай бұрын
@@WxIxLxLxIxAxMxS Well, Disney was one of those people who was pretty healthy up until the very last minute and then declined and died within just a few weeks. So that doesn't fit. But it is true that from the mid-'50s onward he had been able to spend less and less time with the animation staff, having moved on to other prime interests (the theme parks, television, etc.).

@@Marbles471 you're unaware of the polo accident? I just rechecked cause I couldn't remember the dates....it happened _earlier_ than I misremembered In 1938, during a polo match, Walt was hit by a polo ball and knocked out of his saddle. He shattered four vertebrae, which lead to excruciating pain. After this accident, he sold his horses and never played another game of polo for as long as he lived. Walt chose to go to a chiropractor rather than a doctor for his injuries, but the chiropractor could not heal his back. If he would have gone to the doctor and been put in a cast it would have healed. This decision and accident had lifelong consequences. Calcium deposits began to build up near his neck, which eventually let to arthritis and pain for the rest of his life. “When the back pain flared up, Walt was often unpleasant in his interaction with his staff” (Sampson) Plus he was a heavy smoker, which did him no favors.. It's true he tried to hide these ailments from the public, but to those close to him, it was obvious.

I heard that Fleischer Studio had their own version with Popeye and Betty Boop, but it was commissioned by Max Fleischer himself, with the raunchy short having a cast of voices and an orchestral number. Maybe it is confirmed, since I never heard that it was debunked. Only heard that its now in an animation Vault of some studio.

1. This short, if it ever existed, was not approved by Disney, hence it's supposed destruction 2. Cartoons were inconsistent about things back then anyway, Mickey's design randomly changes halfway through The Gallopin' Gaucho, and Oswald randomly has a navel for a single gag in The Fox Chase

What's more plausible: Someone recalled reading "Terry And The Pirates" and relayed it to a second party that told a third party, etc. In each telling, the story got embellished and the tellers added bits to make it more believable. The result is this speculative piece about a film that doesn't exist further positing the possible, not likely, existence of an apocryphal film. Next up: Someone uses AI to create the nonexistent media. ;-)
