The review I read about this track spoke of the lyrics being like a monologue by the Earth to us. The mix of poetic yet frank, relatable terminology woven beautifully into the instrumentals in the final two thirds of it continue to captivate me, even on multiple listens. The cyclical nature of this track reminds me of the ebb and flow, and impending rise of the oceans, the cycles of our planet, and how insignificant we are in the great expanse of time - as highlighted by this passage of lyrics: Sea level rise It's the beginning of the Great Dying Soon it will be over Long time to recover 30 million years The moments of silence before a transitions from quiet to loud and vice versa are ingeniously structured such that you never quite know where the song is going next, even towards the crescendo at the very end. This musical device feels utterly appropriate: Our future is unknown.

The "what he said 'cause I ain't spelling that" chart is a diagram that shows the different time eras that the earth has gone through. Y'know, age of dinosaurs, ice ages, that kinda thing. The song talks about an extinction event that happened in the Paleozoic era (also the name of the album)
