It would be hypocritical of me to criticize Facebook's data collection while ignoring platforms such as Google who engage in a lot of the same practices. I EXPLICITLY outline this at 10:22 It's clear many of you didn't watch until this point. I don't blame you, this is a long video. However, assuming my argument without actually watching the content in front of you and instead spamming hate comments is blatant ignorance. Update: Facebook have released multi-user accounts for oculus. However these accounts are still controlled by a main admin Facebook account on the headset. Logging in with a new Facebook account on the same headset requires a full reset (though this no longer gets you banned which is great)

@@1Shalnark1 i forget because i havent used it in a while... but basically the main reason people do it is because some accounts have games others dont... like if your friend came over and wanted to log in his account to your headset to let you play his games... i believe thatll work, but if log in an account that has no games along with your main account that account can now play whatever games you own as long as its log into your headset... but you cant trick the system or anything by using this to have all your friends play a paid game that only you bought. So i think the basic limitation is if you sign in someone else's account to get their games to your main account it wont work like that since the first account registered to the headset will be the "admin account" that shares games to the others... while if you buy games on the other ones it wont share them to any of the other accounts on your headset(not even the admin). Let me know if you need this clarified with an example

I like the analogy, but Facebook is more like a voyeur with a camera than a groper. Facebook works more a voyeur who creates an Onlyfans account, using the pics and videos it takes of you. FYI, Facebook is the only VR company that stores the biomechanical data from its users. I wouldn't be shocked if they didn't store the images from the front cameras too.

@@mrfrizzy7398 you can, but i'd recommend doing it one or two days before you get your headset. if you make it as you're setting up your headset, facebook might ban it for being a spam account. however, even if you do get banned, just contact oculus support. this honestly isn't as big an issue as people make it seem, they just don't want to put in the effort to get it fixed.

There are some legit things to consider when dealing with Facebook, but I do feel I need to point out that you can now have multiple users and accounts on your quest 2, so that is not so much an issue at this point. Also, I know it is easy to hate on Facebook, but with over a billion users worldwide, there are a lot of people who already have opened themselves (and info) to Facebook. I am not defending Facebook, but just pointing out that there are a lot of people that know what Facebook is and still choose to use it. One thing that can be said about Facebook and the quest is that it has done more to make VR mainstream than all the previous systems combined. This ultimately will create a greater market and hopefully provide more competition and development.

100% agree. Like I stated in the video. This is still an amazing headset and Facebook has done more in 2 years than the last 5 years of VR development. I still recommend it to most average users provided they are well aware of FB's TOS. The only core problem I highlight and the subject of the video is how FB are currently going about enforcing TOS i.e bricking headsets due to users not giving over their real name or birth date.

The headset is pretty good. I'm sure we'll see a competitor rise to match the quest product line. Unfortunately I also believe everyone is already in so deep with data collection, because of the boom in tech, with social media apps, Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, and Google that the competitor will most likely follow the same path as the other big names. I geuss my take away is just hoping that the ToS and data collection doesn't end up like ready player one, where you get hauled off to a labor internment camp based on debt or actions.

Virtual Desktop is a Godsend. Consider the purchase. You'll then have no issues purchasing, and using, apps from either the PC or device Oculus store. It will let you access your Steam VR as well.

Thank you so much for this outline. I figured the low price was related to the facebook login. The quest 2 seems like a steal and considered impulse buying it despite the obvious concerns. I'm not worried if they want to use my data to recommend Ad's. after all whether I buy something or not isn't necessarily because I saw it on an Ad. there are many factors that cab affect my purchase that they can never guess. the problem for me, is with the voice and more importantly the cameras. this what affect privacy for me. and we need a confirmation or method to ensure this type of data isn't being gathered. and Facebook should be punished if they did gather such data.

I even saw one video where the account was legit, he tried reaching out to support and he got nothing..till he posted a video explaining how he didn't do anything wrong THEN they fixed it in days. That's what I'm talking about specifically. And I was pointing out how I couldn't find anybody actually and fully adding there fb account. Great video, and i've been ruminating on all of these issues since i picked up the quest 2 a month or so ago. I've decided to use it for now, then as soon as my life circumstances allow for it purchase a more expensive option -even with similar performance- to get away from Facebook. I actually bought it under the pretense that 'you can use your Oculus account for a year before facebook login is required' just to have the fine print state that this is only true if you used the Oculus acct on an oculus device (i had it for Samsung Gear VR). Either that or I'm hoping that more competition comes at the $300-500 pricepoint, just because I have nothing to hide doesnt mean that I tacitly want my actions observed, logged and aggregated

The mandatory Facebook log in is pure cancer, so i just logged into my account (that i literally never use, only have it for a specific newsletter application), bought the games i wanted, sideloaded everything i wanted from sidequest then disconnected the wifi so it's completely offline. @@lilyoda4208 yes. Very slight latency, if you have a solid router. I recommend wifi 6 if you have a lot of connected devices, I use wifi 5 and switch off things connected to my 5ghz channel. Playing steam games with no tether is well worth it in my opinion.

The problem is not Facebook itself, the problem is, if you get ban from facebook, your Quest 2 will be unusable too, and it's very easy to get ban from facebook (using a fake name, using 2 account, etc...)

You mention facebook being able to "brick" the headsets. This is misleading. Bricking is when an electronic device becomes unusable, often from a failed software or firmware update. If one is banned from Facebook, sure maybe they can no longer use the headset, but NOTHING is stopping them from 1) selling the headset to someone else (which case it'll work perfectly fine) 2) setting it up with a different facebook account that has not be banned

They can demand name verification by ID or passport, and will ban your account if you can't provide it. It's asked at random (so you might get lucky), but a lot of people have been banned this way and lost their games.

My opinion on the quest 2: I have had my quest 2 for quite some time and it has litterally ruined a bit of my vr life. I loved playing boneworks on my rift s every single day until my rift s headset stopped working. I bought a quest 2 and used airlink. I was gonna run boneworks and when i did, boneworks didnt appear in the headset. I tried everything but when i manage to see the game in my headset, its the laggiest game in the entire world. And this is just bc boneworks doesnt have an option to launch in oculus vr mode. I started playing blade and sorcery cus boneworks doesnt work and the same happened to b&s when i launched it in steam vr modr, laggier than anything. When i tried launching in oculus vr mode, everything worked and the game ran smootly. But now i cant play a vr game unless it can launch in oculus vr mode which is fucking ridicoulus. Im at my cabin rn for 2 weeks and i dont have my pc here so i gotta play games that i bought on oculus. I spent 20 dollars on medal of honor: Above and beyond, looked sick and it took 43gb to download and that lasted a whole day. I spent a whole day downloading it cus im using my mobile data and its slow. When it was done downloading, it said "Installing" it said this could take 30 minutes so i went to bed and like an hour later, i checked and it said "Install" on the game. I clicked and it said 17mb downloaded out of 43,88Gb. This means that I spent my whole fucking day to download this shit and then at 2 AM in the night, it says i have to redo that entire 12 hour long download. This is also fucking ridicoulus and this makes me litterally want to burn my headset. You dont understand how mad i am because of what this headset is doing. The only good thing ab it is that i can play b&s when im home. I hope the ppl who made this shitty headset does something. I dont see anyone else on yt with the same problems that i have and that annoys me too.

I’ve been a loyal oculus customer. I’ve owned the Rift and OG Quest, referred several friends to the Rift and even spent hundreds of dollars building up my library and buying new releases but having FB in my home is why it ends there. Hoping HTC or Valve can provide a solid stand alone headset soon.

It is built better than the 1. Quest 2 really needs upgrades. I bought 0 quest 1 upgrades but I spent 150+ extra to get it right. 64 gb costs $334 after taxes in Florida. Maybe stick a battery on the back of your Q1 and you're set

Ive had my quest 2 for like just 3 months. Is started freezing after 20 seconds EVERY time i start it up. Internet disconnects every time it goes to sleep mode not fully shut down. And so I factory resetted it. STILL FREEZING. Shut down and turned back on. I set my language on setup screen and then it asked for internet. It says internet must be turned on to connect. SEriously???? You cant turn on the internet in the setup there is no slider. So there was no internet listed. Basically unplayable. Im going to return it and i hope they will give me a new one. My headset basically broke by sitting on my desk. It just broke by itself.

the only reason i got a quest 2 is portability. my parents are divorced and no way im moving bay stations and setting it back up every 3 or 4 days, and on that front it was great, but facebook was a nightmare. they have an anti-spam that didnt let me make an account for TWO DAYS

I had to get the quest 2’gh if I even wanted to get into VR. But my hope is that within the next two or three years there will be competition price wise and wireless VR that I can then switch away from Facebook. I hate Facebook and companies like it like Apple. But it’s really hard to justify spending $1000 over $300 just because they require me to sign in to Facebook. Let’s just hope more companies start making headsets as competition so that we can get away from Facebook.

My opinion/prediction is that data collection will still be occurring on a massive scale no matter who rises up to match oculus. It's the new normal unfortunately. They all have you make an account and basically nothing works unless you agree to the ToS provided. As long as they aren't using the info to discriminate or "labor camp" people like in ready player one, it won't be that big of an issue.

Yes, I think Facebook being the manufacturer of the Oculus Quest 2 isnt... ideal... but, i do still believe it is a very good VR headset (especially for the price.) As it provides people who can't get a powerful PC to experience Virtual Reality. Still though, Facebook shouldn't own Oculus

What's the motor racing game you're playing on this vid? On privacy concerns it's way bigger than Facebook. If it's at all possible to be anonymous these days then it requires living completely without any tech and i don't think that's a price anyone is prepared to pay so until governments all around the world decide to do something about this you have only very limited control over your own data.

The oculus link and losing tracking until you restart it is a software problem because it happens on the quest 1 too. If you take off the headset sometimes randomly when you put it back on the tracking is just gone and you have to restart it.

Personnaly, I have an old Vive (the first one), and since 4 weeks I have a Quest 2... I can't play with my Vive anymore, the difference is too big, the quest 2 is much better on all points.
