Was gonna wait until the Odin Portal 2 released instead of getting RP5, but ordered the RP5 instead. RP5’s smaller screen, cheaper price point, and ability to emulate and play almost all older systems and even a lot of lightweight switch made me lean towards RP5. I already have a switch so don’t need more power to emulate it.

You can also overclock the GPU on the RP5 to get better Switch performance as well.

My only gripe about the Odin devices, and I love my Odin 2 and Odin 2 Mini, is that the sticks aren't quite as good as I would like. They're leagues above a Nintendo Joy-Con stick, but it's not quite as accurate as a regular Guilikit HE stick. There is almost no threshold between a slight press and a full press, and so a full press happens about 50% away from the edge of the stick. It's insanely difficult to press lightly on the stick and control it, so games that require this for sneaking or walking are almost impossible. Otherwise, the entire devices is awesome. It makes me wonder if this is the same case for the Retroid Pocket 5/Mini.

Did your desktop and its Monitor have HDR enabled? In a standard Sunshine setup, it's streaming a mirror of your primary display and therefore limited to its capabilities or enabled features. You can, however, set it up to work with a virtual display driver or dummy plug with arbitrary resolutions and features. It can even be made to auto-switch to the client device's resolution. That takes a little bit of setup with scripts to do with standard Sunshine and Moonlight, or you can use the Apollo and Artemis forks that integrate that functionality.

I pre-ordered this over buying the RP5 or an SD OLED. Reasons being - the SD OLED is a full $100+ more, and is too fatiguing for me to play for long periods (I'm small and have small hands). The O2P is quite a bit smaller and lighter. Won't be buying the RP5 solely because of the left stick placement. I plan on streaming from my PC and playing lots of PS2 with the O2P and occasionally traveling with it since I sometimes visit my folks one state over. Also possibly worth noting that my only other emulation device is an MM+.
@CaesartheGrape28 күн бұрын
I'm in a similar boat. I haven't pre-ordered yet, but I'm 90% of the way there. My only device currently is also a MM+. I thought when the RP5 came out that it was going to be the one for me to finally upgrade, but then I heard about the Portal and saw the complaints about the RP5's left stick placement and decided to hold off. SD OLED is just too expensive. The SD LCD is on sale right now for less than the Portal, but the size, weight, and battery life are big concerns for me even though it plays steam games and has better switch performance. At this point the only thing I'm considering in place of the Portal is a gaming tablet with a Gamesir G8 controller slapped on. Something like a Lenovo Legion Y700 which has an 8.8in LCD screen.

Had a similar battel, but i went for the portal. Yes its more money but not that much compared to what I got I feel. here are my reasons why im pro the portal 1. The screen is gorgeous and the bigger size makes me enjoy it more (same reason why the bigger screen switch was just way more comfortable for me to play on), plus my eyes hate me and its becoming harder and harder to read text on small screens. F&*% aging lol 2. The bigger size is more comfortable to hold in my hands (no pun intended) ergonomics look like a win for the portal for me 3. the thumbstick placement is horrible on the RP5, many reviewers said that it doesnt feel good to use. if you are more of D-pad person then who cares. 4. the power, i mean this chip at that price is mind blowing. most phones are double the price with that chip. its powerful can run most things at 4x and does switch emulation better. not that thats a big selling point for me but it feels more future proof especially with the more ram and android games. 5. Does the indigo look better than all black or all white? I don't see any light bleed on this indigo version as I do in all the other videos with black that AYN is posting. AYN posts video with games with a gap on the right side or some pixelation error on the right side. Is that an emulation issue or hardware issue?

Hi Russ, have pre-ordered this and am excited for it, hoping to find some grips. I'm wondering if running with MMJR2 on this is worthwhile, it is for my RG556, changes some games with 60fps patches from having issues to mostly running quite well.

Have you tried plugging the HDMI cable into the dock the other way round?

Did you test the battery life with black frame insertion on? Also what retroarch cores do you use?(mesen is more demanding so bfi doesn't work on that core for me) I think you should also write that alongside retroarch and shader info
