you CAN shield. you CAN chop (up & down). you CAN NOT extend your forearm away from the body to create separation. With that being said, you may be able to get away with it depending on how tight your defender is playing you and how discreet you are.

In my opinion, chopping up and down is clean and effective, because I noticed the defenders always look to lean in and put their weight on u to slow ur roll. Chopping tends to disrupt their balance coz it leaves the defender trying to find somewhere to lean instead of actually stopping u, slowing them down more. But I take issue with using the forearm proactively like that. To me it really straddles the line between foul and no foul, allowing for dirty plays.. elbow jabs and swings and actual pushing. To me the shoulder can serve the same function of creating space except it's not as provocative

Having Elite Handles, Jumpshot, Step back, floater, post, face up and fadewawy game on lock all paired with this has made me nearly unstoppable in any situation against any opponent. I've always been a shooter but I remember coach telling me in high school back in 2012 that "if you have handles you can play anywhere on the planet" I took that to heart and instead of putting up the usual 500 shots I'd specifically work handling drills for hours and boy has it paid off big time. I play for money now, $25 to get in a game with me, I will be uploading some videos of me playing soon so stay tuned.

This is a good technique used to compete with defenders not having longer wingspan than your. In case competing with longer wingspan defenders, I put my shoulder in place of my off-arm and let off-hand behind (Like a running ninja) so: - i can prevent defender from reaching in front of me by my head and by the longer distance than their wingspan (created by my shouders lenght + my handling arm length). - I can get lower than normal to explose to the basket cuz my behind off-hand gives me balance. - I can prevent defenders from reaching behind by my behind off-hand.

This is such a great video to properly show players playing any position how to score and finish stronger. Smaller players need to use the off arm as momentum to sort of bounce off the player and take a tight angle to hold that position like James Harden did and not try to just hold them off. If a defensive player is stronger he can use that to overpower you. Charles Barkley said it best, take their size and genetic gifts out of the game.

PSA: This video only addresses NBA rules, which in my opinion isn't true basketball, just entertainment. In FIBA (or even US high school and NCAA), using your off arm to impede the movement of the defender, IS an offensive foul. Yes, you can use your off arm to shield the ball from the defenders own ARMS when they're reaching in, but that's not what he's doing in at 1:34. If that defender had actually fought through his extended arm in an attempt to recover, it would be called an offensive foul. His arm is outside his cylinder, so he is responsible for the contact. He makes it look clean because the defender is barely trying and just letting him go lol HOWEVER, the intent of this educational video is spot on and player's do need to have their off hand engaged and ready to react to defenders reaching in. And yes you can use it to protect your space, as long as your off arm is WITHIN your cylinder. You can't extend it into the opponent's space.

I need to use this in my game!! People say I don’t like contact it’s because I never use my off arm. I just do floaters or dribble forever until I got them out of position

Man forget that! I'm 40 years old. I played with some youngstas at the gym who do this. You not about to move me with your hands. Especially when I don't play Defense with my hands. I see players literally trying to stiff arm and move people. You do this to me I'm going to smother that on and I'm not letting you move me whatsoever.

How is not a foul when the offensive player is fully extending his arm to push the defender out of the way? It seems like the logic here is that since the defender is reaching in the offensive player can “control their space” by pushing the defenders arm away? How is that not a foul if the defender doesn’t touch you? No hating just a genuine question...

Can someone please explain to me if the way Harden usually uses his off hand (arm) to create space for his stepbacks, is it legal or actually a "discrete" foul that ends up not being spotted??
@Ryan-yu5kt
@Ryan-yu5kt 5 жыл бұрын
Hes not fully extending his arm the vast majority of the time.
@niivekclesio
@niivekclesio 5 жыл бұрын
@@Ryan-yu5kt Well, sometimes it does appear that he over extends and the move isn't that much discrete. Specially when he's meet with great defense and is trying desperately to create space. But if the refs don't call it, they probably just see it as part of physicality of the game...

when doing a layup your supposed to keep two hands on the ball as long as possible if you dont the ball can easily roll off your hand so how do i use my off arm in that moment to sheild against a defender?

What do you think of harden uses the off arm? He toes the line between legal and illegal off arm contact with the push off but doesn’t get called for it often

It's definitely effective but considering they keep diminishing defensive tactics it allows a lot of Ball handlers to get away with so much

Having done MMA before it was quite natural to control the arms and elbows from the guy in front of you. This gives you leverage for blow bys and jump steps

Not necessarily, the offensive player has a right to their space which is why if your arms/hands extend away from your body in an obvious motion on offense, it’s still an offensive foul. The trick is to make it look like your natural running motion while dribbling or a plain use of the arm to defend the ball from being poked.

3:02 so I'm confused. Technically that is a push off and could be called for a potential foul right? That is the same on how they say A.I would discreetly use his off hand to push off of defenders right?
@InternetZane
@InternetZane 5 жыл бұрын
he could probably get away with it if the defender were closer, but yeah... anytime you extend away from the body, it's gon be a foul called most likely

2:53 what about that one right there, you said you cant bump but he did cause just like klay and a bunch of other well defenders hes really trying to cut off his direction, does it mattet how low the forearm is.. because im very shifty no cap and because people know that they try to cut me now i weigh 180 so i could easily do this, but they may call charge? its a great move if done right, but some defenders just try so hard lol and i have one more question, can defenders use their arms to getchu off balance not like a hand check but a blantant x arm type stuff? cause it happens to me man, they wont letcha boy work.. and last but not least gr8 video man.
