In my opinion, chopping up and down is clean and effective, because I noticed the defenders always look to lean in and put their weight on u to slow ur roll. Chopping tends to disrupt their balance coz it leaves the defender trying to find somewhere to lean instead of actually stopping u, slowing them down more. But I take issue with using the forearm proactively like that. To me it really straddles the line between foul and no foul, allowing for dirty plays.. elbow jabs and swings and actual pushing. To me the shoulder can serve the same function of creating space except it's not as provocative

This is a good technique used to compete with defenders not having longer wingspan than your. In case competing with longer wingspan defenders, I put my shoulder in place of my off-arm and let off-hand behind (Like a running ninja) so: - i can prevent defender from reaching in front of me by my head and by the longer distance than their wingspan (created by my shouders lenght + my handling arm length). - I can get lower than normal to explose to the basket cuz my behind off-hand gives me balance. - I can prevent defenders from reaching behind by my behind off-hand.

This is such a great video to properly show players playing any position how to score and finish stronger. Smaller players need to use the off arm as momentum to sort of bounce off the player and take a tight angle to hold that position like James Harden did and not try to just hold them off. If a defensive player is stronger he can use that to overpower you. Charles Barkley said it best, take their size and genetic gifts out of the game.

PSA: This video only addresses NBA rules, which in my opinion isn't true basketball, just entertainment. In FIBA (or even US high school and NCAA), using your off arm to impede the movement of the defender, IS an offensive foul. Yes, you can use your off arm to shield the ball from the defenders own ARMS when they're reaching in, but that's not what he's doing in at 1:34. If that defender had actually fought through his extended arm in an attempt to recover, it would be called an offensive foul. His arm is outside his cylinder, so he is responsible for the contact. He makes it look clean because the defender is barely trying and just letting him go lol HOWEVER, the intent of this educational video is spot on and player's do need to have their off hand engaged and ready to react to defenders reaching in. And yes you can use it to protect your space, as long as your off arm is WITHIN your cylinder. You can't extend it into the opponent's space.

3:02 so I'm confused. Technically that is a push off and could be called for a potential foul right? That is the same on how they say A.I would discreetly use his off hand to push off of defenders right?

he could probably get away with it if the defender were closer, but yeah... anytime you extend away from the body, it's gon be a foul called most likely

2:53 what about that one right there, you said you cant bump but he did cause just like klay and a bunch of other well defenders hes really trying to cut off his direction, does it mattet how low the forearm is.. because im very shifty no cap and because people know that they try to cut me now i weigh 180 so i could easily do this, but they may call charge? its a great move if done right, but some defenders just try so hard lol and i have one more question, can defenders use their arms to getchu off balance not like a hand check but a blantant x arm type stuff? cause it happens to me man, they wont letcha boy work.. and last but not least gr8 video man.

I notice Harden uses his forearm/shoulder a lot to create space. I think that's the reason Ingram wanted to fight him last season.
