Okay after a quick google search, yes, the actor’s name is Creed Bratton. However he wasn’t born with that name he changed it in the 60’s. And yes his birth name was William Charles Schneider. He played himself however the life they gave the character was mostly fictional (obviously). So this comment is partially true but he didn’t just walk into the set and magically become a part of it.

I think Odenkirk's take was much truer to the David Brent antecedent. Having said that, nobody flounders quite as compellingly as steve carrell here. He injects this really sympathetic earnestness into the character and I think there's an argument to be made that his likability is what allowed this version of the show to run so much longer than the UK version

the differences between Bob and Steve are so minute, it must have been such a difficult decision. So much so that they felt compelled to include Bob for an episode or two later on as a kind of doppelganger to Michael. That said, I'm so glad Steve is Michael and Bob is Saul. They both nailed their respective roles.

It’s easy to say now that we have the footage to compare, but I think side by side it actually makes a lot of sense they were picked over everyone else. Most of the other actors who auditioned have an overdeveloped sense of themselves and you can tell they’re performing. John and Jenna on the other hand have a very real “everyday” vibe about them that makes them seem like people who would work in a paper company office.

@@JoyGrenade Yes. The entire point of casting calls is to throw a bunch of different mental tactics into the mix to see how actors respond to each cue. If they knew about it the entire point of the exercise would be lost. How the actor responds and in the way they do determines if they have the right energy and mood for the show and the character. When you're working with experienced actors they know all the tricks in the book and you have to catch them off guard and mix things up to get the right scope of their talent.

The actress who plays Angela was auditioning for the role of Pam, in this video. You can tell because they’re mostly reading scenes from the original British scripts, in this video, and the Angela actress is reading lines spoken by Dawn the receptionist (who became Pam in the US version). The actual scene that “Angela” is reading, is Dawn complaining about being engaged for years - which went onto become a storyline in the US version as well
