Okay after a quick google search, yes, the actor’s name is Creed Bratton. However he wasn’t born with that name he changed it in the 60’s. And yes his birth name was William Charles Schneider. He played himself however the life they gave the character was mostly fictional (obviously). So this comment is partially true but he didn’t just walk into the set and magically become a part of it.

If they considered Seth Rogen and Patton Oswalt, I'd say they weren't trying nearly hard enough. They got very lucky with Rainn, from boring old Seattle. That voice is gold. King of the Hill had several castings like this that elevated characters into a monster of a show.

I think Odenkirk's take was much truer to the David Brent antecedent. Having said that, nobody flounders quite as compellingly as steve carrell here. He injects this really sympathetic earnestness into the character and I think there's an argument to be made that his likability is what allowed this version of the show to run so much longer than the UK version

the differences between Bob and Steve are so minute, it must have been such a difficult decision. So much so that they felt compelled to include Bob for an episode or two later on as a kind of doppelganger to Michael. That said, I'm so glad Steve is Michael and Bob is Saul. It’s easy to say now that we have the footage to compare, but I think side by side it actually makes a lot of sense they were picked over everyone else. Most of the other actors who auditioned have an overdeveloped sense of themselves and you can tell they’re performing. John and Jenna on the other hand have a very real “everyday” vibe about them that makes them seem like people who would work in a paper company office.

the show could've worked with another jim (especially adam scott!), another pam, kevin, angela, maybe even michael. but no one else could have been dwight schrute. rainn wilson's performance, the intensity and dead seriousness with which he says the insane things he says - just not comparable. in my acting classes, we were always told you can't approach your lines with any level of irony. you have to believe in what you are saying just as much as your character does. and that's really the key, especially to a comically serious character like dwight

I actually think John Cho would’ve been good at playing Jim. That’s about the only one of the other actors that I could imagine working in place of the actors they chose. Obviously they picked the right Jim but I’m just saying I could picture it working. Seth Rogen as Dwight would’ve killed the show. I could picture him in place of Darryl but that’s about it.

Only other person that could play Michael would have been bob odenkirk. We know this when he shows up later in the seasons as Pam’s new boss… also Adam Scott would have been a good choice for Jim too. No one else that auditioned brought that energy for their characters I felt something from Adams audition and bobs.. but in the end they obviously made the right choice

I like how Steve Carell's, or rather, Michael Scott's pronunciation of 'que sera sera' is phonetically English, and the casting crew didn't even know what he said, indicating that it isn't on the script he was given. He really was perfect for the role

@@JoyGrenade Yes. The entire point of casting calls is to throw a bunch of different mental tactics into the mix to see how actors respond to each cue. If they knew about it the entire point of the exercise would be lost. How the actor responds and in the way they do determines if they have the right energy and mood for the show and the character. When you're working with experienced actors they know all the tricks in the book and you have to catch them off guard and mix things up to get the right scope of their talent.

In Portuguese, "O que será, será", is a rather old-fashioned expression, meaning something similar to "what will be, will be".

The actress who plays Angela was auditioning for the role of Pam, in this video. You can tell because they’re mostly reading scenes from the original British scripts, in this video, and the Angela actress is reading lines spoken by Dawn the receptionist (who became Pam in the US version). The actual scene that “Angela” is reading, is Dawn complaining about being engaged for years - which went onto become a storyline in the US version as well
