My dear dad suffered from bone cancer for 2 years. Those two years were the worse years of my life so far, even tho im very young.. Sometimes, when he had better days, he could just walk, do his favourite stuff. Do something easy in garage, just.. try live like a normal person even rho he was non-stop suffering, sometimes he could handle it. sometimes we was forced to use a lot of painkillers. And more. and more. Every day he was looking like he was dying, cuz he was but, his face, the expresions of fear, suffering and hope. Even when he was sleeping.... he was in pain. His face was making painful expressions, sometimes he had ticks from pain while sleeping. I never saw him calm since those 2 years. But there was one time, one evening his facial expression looked calm. I was doing my stuff sitting on my chair and he came to my room asking if he can hang out with me, listen to music together. He layed himself on my bed and closed his eyes.. All of the bright lights were off, only one weak warm lighterd lamp was on. I decided to play this exact song, actually two songs, on the speaker.. And as he was listening to this... His face got.. calm.. relaxed. Like all of the sudden his whole suffering ended. I couldnt do anything else than starring at his face.. I even thought he took a nap, but when the song ended, he softly told me to play it again. and i did. Again. and again till he had to come back to his own bed. He thankfully looked at me and said "Thanks you for spending time with me, You have a beautiful music taste" We told our goodnights, and he went to his room. That moment when he was deeply listening to this song carved in my mind. Even tho he doesnt understand english as much as i do, he was understanding the melody. And so when i crossed upon this song in my playlist right now, i decided to share this story. My dad died a month ago, This song is for you. I miss you. Love you dad.

Hello. I didn't see this comment until now (thanks to youtube, I guess) and I don't know if you will read my reply, but your story brought me to tears. I don't think there's much that I can say, just that I pray for your father to rest in peace and my heart goes out for you and your loss. I hope you found strength to live on. Back when I created this I didn't think this little mash-up would become something that would be so important for someone, something to share their love. I'm glad I could share this with you. And you, indeed, have a very good musical taste.🌾

@@learlir Im gonna be honest. I didnt thought anyone, especially you the creator would saw and read that. Yesterday would me by dad's 50th birthday, and i hope he can see this, at some point maybe. Who knows, maybe heaven exist, if it does, then my dad deserve a good place there. Im really glad for a response, im thankful for the prays for my dad. Have this forever in your mind, creator. Remember that this, as u said, "little mash-up" made one of the greatest and one of last memories of my dead dad. Have a great life, thank you

I lost my mother when I was 18. It changed my life forever. I too remember her suffering in pain from the cancer. It is a terrible thing. However, I have no doubt that she wanted me to spend what little time I have in this life experiencing beauty, peace, happiness, and love. I know your father would want the same for you. Live you life to it's fullest as a tribute to your father. Do not allow misery to ruin what little time you have. Best wishes.

it's really interesting to hear them in this order, since on the album Dear Wormwood they're actually the other way around, Pale White Horse first, and then Where is Your Rider :)
@duskflower88253 жыл бұрын
So at first I was angry at this because Pale White Horse was specifically designed to transition into Where is Your Rider, but you're right - Where Is Your Rider also transitions straight into Pale White Horse. You can just loop this video endlessly and never detect an ending point. Nice!

*Where is your rider* Was it you 'mid the fire and the ember? Were you there to bedevil and beguile? See, your face wasn't quite as I remember But I know that wicked shape to your smile Bury me as it pleases you, lover At sea, or deep within the catacomb But these bones never rested while living So how can they stand to languish in repose? He has thrown down the cavalry as gravel sinks And as the stone founders underneath the sundered sea of red and reed The shadow of Hades is fading For he has cast down leviathan, the tyrant, and the horse and rider Where is your rider? He will hold with all of his might the armies of night, Still as boulders laid to the side 'til we pass by He has hoisted out of the mire every child So lift your voice with timbrel and lyre "We will abide, we will abide, we will abide" *Pale White Horse* Down they fell like the children of Eden Down they fell like the tower As the land relinquished her ghost Heed the sirens, take shelter, my lover Flee the fire that devours But the sight held me fixed Like a bayonet against my throat Neither plague or famine tempered my courage Nor did raids make me cower But his translucent skin Made me shiver deep within my bones It was a pale white horse With a crooked smile And I knew it was my time It was the raging storm Of a foreign war And a face I'd seen before

@@astropenguin1631 It is! I kind of took inspiration from Skyrim and LOTR/The Hobbit. It's about a man who's wife is missing and he goes on a journey to find her. I ended up trashing a good chunk of it cuz I felt like it didn't really flow well, but I'm in the process of rewriting.

Every DND campaign I run somehow connects to the next one I'm already planning. The players are quickly reaching the end of their current journey and their actions will have ramifications for the next in-game century. Gonna play Where is Your Rider at the end of this campaign and begin the next one with Pale White Horse.

So these songs I realized were about the book of Revelations in the Bible. In Revelations 6 the Lamb of God (Jesus) opens scrolls and put of the first four scrolls comes four horses. Each horse had a rider, there was a white, red, black, and pale horse. The pale horse’s rider’s name (the only name given of the riders) was Death “and Hades followed him.” There’s a few more textual connections but I found that interesting.
@phoenixwrites71812 жыл бұрын
Yeah the entire album is actually based off of CS Lewis’s Screwtape Letters, so it has a lot of biblical references.
@Vapememes2 жыл бұрын
The song "where is your rider" is quite explicit with its biblical references given its reference to the splitting of the red sea, casting down the leviathan, and a major theme of the whole song being about God defeating death. That last theme of the song makes even more sense given that where is your rider is supposed to come after pale white horse

Me, a Tool fan: "So you think think this is a long ass song, eh? EH?" Fear Inoculum, the title song from the album of the same name, is the longest song to hit the top 100, at a whopping 10 minutes and 20 seconds. Their average song length is actually right at 6 minutes, which I would say qualifies for "long ass epic songs."

the way the songs were originally put together Where Is Your Rider was meant to establish someone on the verge of depressive thoughts due to an abusive relationship and then follow it up with the more upbeat Pale White Horse showing triumph over the speaker's inner demons. you can't mix up the order
@hyalophora2 жыл бұрын
I mean, you CAN mix up the order if ya want to

considering this is a religious band with religious music and lyrics, i’m pretty sure the original meaning really ought to not be about depression and a abusive relationship and rather about the four horsemen… therefore meaning whichever order is fine. but whatever floats ur boat my man!

@@bambi.1imb0 the fact that they are a christian band does not mean that they will not write about things like depression. Depression is also something a lot of Christians suffer from. In this song it is probably not what it is about but it could have been.
