Interesting take. Perreault was an OHL scoring star and former first round pick of the Ducks. He was more of a scorer than Hoefenmayer. in junior. Hoefenmayer is bigger but also three years older. Perreault looks like a better offensive AHL player at an earlier point in his career. Both look to be longshots to make the NHL but I think you might be underselling on Perreault. Hofenmayer looks like a bit of a goon in the AHL. 114 penalty minutes in 65 games with the Marlies in 2022/23 at age 22.

Good point, Perreault is younger and we'll have to see how he develops, he's had a bit of NHL experience after the draft with the Ducks and he didn't look like a good fit in Montreal. So we'll have to see where this player ends up in Bakersfield.

hoefenmayer...could be a decent depth defenseman, but probably doesn't slot in the top 10 in montreal's system right now. mailloux, engstrom, trudeau, and when he's back, reinbacher, would all likely get called up before hoefenmayer. jacob perreault was a bust from the word go. he brings nothing the oilers don't have from players that do what he does better than he does it.

I agree, that trade was a bit "meh" there was really nothing that stood out, but they look they can both develop into hopefully a 4th liner

You clearly don’t know hockey Edmonton has a surplus of aging d men like noel that’s why they moved him didn’t have a spot and Ben Gleason to mention a few to acquire a young talented prospect who you mentioned was only 22 he has 7 points in 10 games on a low scoring bako team and Noel on Laval has 1 point 4 games hmmm figure out who’s winning that bud they got a young player who hasn’t reached his potential I doubt he ever will but that’s a good gamble not trying to hate on you but cmon dumb take imo

Jacob Perrault may never be a nhl guy for edm but a player that was a first rounder that lit up the ohl and had a couple low scoring seasons adapting to the hard AHL grindy game and it only cost basically nothing is an amazing trade

Okay, let's not overreact here. This was a very insignificant trade for 2 players who will never reach NHL potential unless their top teams suffer major injuries. BUT this is where I would tend to differ. When you said surplus of aging d men you totally FORGOT to mention that Noel was a Left shot defenceman. The Oilers do have a surplus of aging d men BUT they don't have left-shot defencemen. This can lead to awkward positioning. Let's just take a dive into the AHL and the NHL as players can move up and down. Jacob Perrault is a MEDIOCRE forward with no stats to show. So if you are saying the "team was bad" and in which they were, does then Jacob Perrault have no talent of his own and he only can be fed with McDavid passes? Well, meh. Let's face it, the Oilers in the NHL And the AHL have little to NO left-shot defencemen and holding onto someone like Noel would be SO beneficial as it's leading players like Kulak to play on both wings. If there are significant injuries on the left wing (Nurse injury) this can lead to a scramble to find a Left-shot defenceman that can fill in. This is where Noel comes into play. But Jacob Perrault can easily be replaced by basically any player in Bakersfield. So let's think this again, do I really not know hockey, or is it actually you who isn't informed.

@@davidgoaternak8683 Exactly, the offer sheet was not a good idea, but what did Edmonton actually see in him. GM's make bad trades, and this is exactly a bad trade. Show me ANY proof that this was a good trade but you are still entitled to your own opinion.
