THG nailed it. Buffalo, is speeding up. McLeod is going to have twice the opportunity in Buffalo that he did in Edmonton. It's too early to call winners and losers on this trade. Savoie is a prospect, and nothing more right now. Size matters, and it's yet to be seen whether he can transition to the NHL. Not all guys his size can. In fact, most can't. McLeod isn't going to be a franchise player in Buffalo or anything, but I think Buffalo fans will realize why he was so well liked in Edmonton, in short order. He's a heart player, who is a bit streaky, but he flies up and down the ice, something Buffalo has been sorely missing.

@@GizmoBeach He was a 2nd round pick in 2018. He turns 25 this summer. He is what he is and he will not all of a sudden grow hands or learn how to go to the net. Edmonton wins and it’s not even close you have a guy who’s basically capped at middle six scorer and a prospect who MAYBE cracks a bottom 6 role in the NHL-for a 20 year old, former top 10 pick who just had more than 2 ppg in the whl edmonton has their future #2 C and buffalo will continue to miss the playoffs

@whodat3700 3 күн бұрын
Before everyone loses their mind in Buffalo over this, MacLeod is a good third line center and an excellent penalty killer. He will definitely improve your pk and won't do stupid things 5 on 5 that will cause goals against often. His speed also keeps other teams on their heels. Like McDavid fast. He was buried in a deep oiler lineup and is only 24. Just wait and see before you get too upset.

Buffalo season ticket holder here. All the Sabres social media is saying this is a bad trade. I'm not convinced it might be good for both teams. Buffalo has one of if not the best prospect pools in the NHL and all those prospects can not play for the Sabres not to mention he wasn't our best prospect. The other thing is Mcleod is one of the fastest skaters in the league and fits with Ruffs philosophy of being a fast team. He also was ( I believe) the best faceoff man for Edmonton 50.1 percent and that's something we lack. Oiler fans will love Savoie he is a likeable guy and he is very good playmaker.

Fair take. I think Jackson did well and he took advantage of Adams' desperation when other GMs refused to. Good for him and the oil. Having said that Adams did what he needed to do. He traded from an area of strength and filled a hole that would have held us back. McLeod helps us us at 3c this year, is good defensively, is fast as hell like most of our bottom 6, good at faceoffs, and is strong pk'er. Hes going to help us win now and for the future.

Sabres fans have been complaining about lack of size and grit on the Sabres for years. Oilers fans would know better, but McLeod should help the Sabres with that. Obviously Matt has the higher ceiling, but he hasn't shown much to the effect of translating his game to the next level. The CHL rules have hurt his development in my opinion, and there is no better place for him to blossom than in Edmonton. Dude, just fire Kevyn Adam's already. The Sabres looked so promising 2 seasons ago and now it just looks like they're going to have another year where they're out of the playoffs. Abandon all hope if you're a Sabres fan, your management group won't let you succeed.

The biggest problem with this team was Granato's coaching style. There's enough skill on this team already, but they played like undisciplined children the past couple seasons. Guys like McLeod that fit Lindy's ideology, along with his ass-kicking nature are what will shape this team up next year. You'll be surprised when this team makes the playoffs next year

its not Kevyn Adams. I honestly think he's doing very close to the best he possibly could with the team he has. Its just that no players and I mean NO players want to come to Buffalo. You know its true when Kane turns down an extra $2 mil in the town he grew up in just to not play for the worst-run organization in professional sports. The drought wont end until the Sabres are in Atlanta.

The Skinner buyout makes no sense. They'll never spend that money this year and this year would be the only reason to do it. Everything else he's done hasn't been bad. There wasn't a free agent that would have made a big difference on their own anyway

From Buff, and didn't understand it at first but now it makes sense. i believe he's still a few years i think from being NHL ready and we are the youngest team in the league and don't need to get younger. Plus they are in a enter playoffs now mode and we don't need to keep our prospects yet. we still have kulich in the minors waiting for his shot. i was saying before the draft that they should try and use most of their picks as trade bait so they can get vet players with no trade clauses cause the sabres really don't need the picks at all.

You act like we don’t have plenty more prospects; Benson made Savoie expendable and what has Savoie done to make people think he’s going to merit that 9th overall choice? He won’t even be an Oiler this year for more than a handful of games, tops. McLeod fills a lot of needs Savoie just couldn’t; he was a waste of a pick except to use as trade bait.
@guymckibbin3305
@guymckibbin3305 2 күн бұрын
@@GizmoBeach Excuse me, all I said was once again Sabre's management is switching from their stated goal - trust the process - to win now at all costs mode. That is what happens when numerous coaches and GM's turn paying customers into empty seats. I know we have a surplus of centers making Savoie expendable. The NHL is littered with ex Sabre's deemed disposable - look under Stanley Cup winners! Lastly, how is it that the Oiler's failed to win the cup in spite of having McDavid, Draisaitl, and McLeod? In my opinion, Adams overspent for McLeod under orders from Pegula

As an Edmonton fan, this is great news. But the team I legit have felt the worst for has been Buffalo. Buffalo hasn't been a contender for some time now and I can only imagine how bleak the fans must feel. All teams go through ups and downs, some more than others. Boston for instance has been a consistent contender thanks to their management, Buffalo... I can't remember the last time they were considered a real contender.

I find it amusing that people think Buffalo got the short end of the stick with this trade. Savoie is 5'9" and hasn't proven himself in the NHL yet. You don't give away high-end draft picks unless there's something about the player that concerns you. If this was a salary cap move, then it makes sense, but McLeod is 6'3" and a proven NHL player. I understand why Buffalo made this trade.

Ok I’ve looked at the surrounding context of the trade and Buffalo has a lot of players that meet the Savoie archetype. And Mcloud is young enough to prove he is a 20G-60ishP player every year while locking down that third line and PK. And Buffalo is trading from a position of strength for a position of weakness. But I am also tired of seeing Buffalo lose trades all the time.
