In this video we are demonstrating sublimation on a Dollar Tree mug using sublimation laminate.
Here’s the link to the roll of laminate that we purchased: www.swbindingl... And it's the homopolymer, matte finish - 12" - item #122503M1 and there is an 18" wide one as well - item #182503M1

Yes, the shrink wrap method in a convection oven works great. I use the oven over the mug press because of doing 4 mugs at a time against only one. Your videos are excellent...forgot to mention...(duh) my oven is set to 380 for 1 1/2 minutes and I wish I had a photo of set up but I'm not that good with cameras and I'm one of the very few who doesn't have a cell phone , LOL My laminate is not 3 ml, it's only 1. 5 mil and have not had any problems so far. (fingers crossed :) )

Hi. Just a tip to help improve your videos. The ring light you're using is meant to have the camera positioned in the center. That way you are lit evenly from all sides rather than casing shadows. It is also meant to be used at a relatively close distance. This provides a softer light and more flattering image. The further a light is from its target subject, the more harsh it appears. Hope this helps.

Thank you for watching! Due to the laminate not sticking at the edge, we have not used this cup for actual coffee drinking. We’ve have kept it in the craft room with Cricut tools in it. @theoilykrafter
@theoilykrafter 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! Yes the laminate is clear before you sublimate your picture on to it. Wherever there isn’t color from the design, you will see the black. Keep in mind that sublimation does not print white (unless you have one of those high dollar printers that has white pigment).

Thank you for all your videos. I watched you do the ceramic tile and you heated them in the heat press 350 degrees for 12 minutes. The cup you said to do it for 400 degrees for 2 min 40 sec. Why the difference in heat and time?
@theoilykrafter
@theoilykrafter 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! The density of the material and surface area of the tile require a longer heat time to insure that it’s heated enough for the laminate to adhere to it. The mugs are designed to be heated, so they don’t take as much to get them heated up enough for the laminate to adhere.

Thank you for watching our video! The printer is an Epson WF-7720 - it is not an eco-tank - we purchased it in Jan of 2020 just before they started coming out with them. This printer has 2 trays - you can put paper up to 13" x 19" in it for large prints. I think Epson has come out with an eco-tank one - not sure you can get this model anymore.

@@pattyfatsie2025 Thank you for watching! I do not know the difference between those. Looks like they have changed what they available since the last time I purchased. If I was buying today, I would get the clear: www.swbindinglaminating.com/roll-laminating-film-12-x-293-prd1.htm?pSearchQueryId=73564 - I have not worked with it yet. I think the 3mil is more important than the matte finish for my method. Then if you prefer the matte finish, get a non-yellowing matte spray for it, so it won't be so shinny. Hope this helps! I will have to look around and see if I can find another source. It may no longer be available the way I originally purchased it.

I know it seems over the top maybe, but I wonder could you epoxy it after the process to make it permanent? I am in the process of ordering my sublimation printer and everything that goes along with it. I am a person who loves the marriage of different craft processes. For example, I want to sublimate on tee's and then embroidery simple sayings like Hello Fall on a fall background or add Names. I do tumblers and epoxied tiles. I was thinking with the vibrancy of sublimation it might be worth the trial to get the picture on the mug or tumbler and then epoxy seal it.
@theoilykrafter
@theoilykrafter 3 жыл бұрын
Lucille Foster I haven’t tried it, but epoxy is used to seal a lot of others tumblers that use glitter, etc. I think it would work as along as you get the top and bottom of the laminate sealed.
