Our family used to have the kipper house down there. It opened in 1856 and closed in 1977. Hill house was the family home, demolished in the late 1970’s

A great collection of pictures. My Granda was born under the bridge in 1904.

....a coincidence !...my granddad - Tom Mole like me - was also born under Byker Bridge in 1888....at Nº 22 Stepney Bank right next door to the Ship Inn, opposite what is now the Urban farm, then the old lead works...they then went on to live on Lime Street...I love the area...I now live abroad but I always make a trip to the UK every year and the Ouseburn Valley is always a priority (complete with a pint at the Cumberland Arms)....

I recently wandered around here. My part 1 video includes the places shown here. Good video. My dad was born by the old sailors bethel above the river. Which is still there. Fascinating history. I’ve been watching loads of these videos lately. That’s why I made my own. Thanks for this. 👍

There is a strange fascination about those old dark houses and buildings and the secrets they hide.

The center of Newcastle chemical industry was there. An explosion set fires off all over the east end. Armstrongs weapons lab was down there I did read.

The music sounds like David Sylvian not Mark Knopfler.
