As a dad with a family to support and spend time with I choose rs3 due to it being much faster paced. I don't have time to spend 300hours for a single skill.

I think the whole point about RC3 being 'easy scape' is simply because skilling is so much more hands-off comapred to OSRS.

Yeah its just fair though. People cant be stuck 10+ hours a day on the screen to train something they dont like but need. The New generation (ours kids/family members) shouldnt grind 10+ hours a day watching a tree get chopped lol.. the fun thing is pvm and pvp where the action is so xp needs to be a bit faster so it welcomes new players without feeling overwhelmed 😅

@@Neutralmentality this is exactly what's wrong with current generation and the reason why nowaday's "fresh" blood aka new gamers are killing the genre. MMO should not be for everyone, it is a specifically designed genre and it must retain as it was initially intended.

The reason I prefer RS3 is that I don't have 100s of hours to grind basic skills for OSRS. I played since 2006 and had fun with the original old school style. I've always wanted to try OSRS, but don't have the time to get where I would want to be.

As a player from 2003 and a person who has played both games, they're both fun in their own way. I left RS3 in 2013 after trying EOC. I just dropped Runescape completely. in 2018 I started playing OSRS on mobile and started getting in to it. the grind was really fun, especially slayer and learning pvming. I nearly maxed and got a QPC. I eventually lost my account. a friend begged me for months to try rs3. I eventually decided to give it a try. He taught me all the basics and fast/efficient ways to level up my account and progress in the game. after learning the EOC system, I actually kinda enjoy it. RS3 has better quality of life, you can customize the layout you want it (really good feature for different size monitors) and is a better game overall. that being said... OSRS has a better PVP scene while RS3 has a better PVM scene. RS3 also wins in bank standing and fashionscape. OSRS wins in nostalgia.

@@rainretribute9852 Rs3 has an enrage system in pvming. It increases after each kill and the boss becomes harder, higher hp pool, different mechanics, higher defense and etc. People compete for best personal records in pvming. Rs3 has T95 weapons now, vs T80 only in OSRS. There is a large boss pool in rs3 too, and grinding them could be rewarding. Solo bosses, small groups, and mass bosses. OSRS just has a larger player base but many bots. Although grinding slayer and COX raids were fun. PVP was enjoyable, both F2P and P2P. People would actually match and fight fair. The nostalgia factor is cool but all that intensive clicking got boring fast, especially if you live a busy lifestyle. RS3 you can use keybinds and customize almost everything. Inventory size, minimal, etc. You can use classic combat mode too although I don't recommend it.

I never even understood why it even mattered, they are both great. I started playing on '06, and I played for quite a few years. I came back in 2017 to a whole new game and I fell in love with rs3. It was a huge learning curve but I enjoy the content and everything that comes with it. That being said, I respect and enjoy the charm of old school - but it will never get my attention as much as rs3 does. They are both independent unique and it's okay to enjoy one over the other and vice versa.

i've always said that OSRS is essentially its own game & has paved its own path now -- you cant really compare the two. both are beautiful in their own way, i play RS3 every now and then because its quite chill tbf. edit; while runelite does have a vast range of plugins, i think the whole ''easyscape'' term derives from the fact that you can get ridiculous amounts of XP in RS3 with relative ease. for example, last DXP weekend I used all my lamps and got an XP drop of 500,000.

I played RS way back in 2005, and really enjoyed it. That said, these days I prefer RS3 because it respects my time more. I don't have the time to play all day like I did when I was a kid, so I like the faster leveling, not running out of run stamina, all the QOL features. I also enjoy the new skills, better graphics, and the combat is definitely more engaging and fast-paced. OSRS sounded good in theory, but after playing it I realized I was seeing it through rose-tinted glasses. RS3 gives me that sense of nostalgia I was craving, but with a new coat of paint, new content to explore, and not wasting my limited time with the grind.

Osrs: chill game akin to an idle clicker game, with skillcap being tied to knowing how the game works under the hood (for example, tick manip) Rs3: mostly chill game with really good lore payoffs, some of the idle game joy and heavy endgame pvm focus. Skillcap tied to how you understand the abilities and how they interact and making decisions depending on the situation. You can get by with 40 apm, you become decent at 80 apm, top tier players have 170 apm. Verdict: both games have their place, I just like runescape better than osrs.

Very good analysis!! Now in 2022 i still see OSRS content creators (some big ones) bashing RS3. It’s incredible! I remember Faux banning a clan member just because he was in a RS3 world. He said: “Get out of here and play the good version” or something like that. I personally am a RS3 player but I have tried OSRS, specially on leagues and i don’t bash the game consistently because of its old combat system and the slow progression. I've played runescape on and off my whole life as a PVM player. I've never gotten over combat level 70 basically, because osrs loses my attention after a month tops of grind sessions. When I play rs3, I feel like there's just so much to do and so much to learn specifically because I HAVEN'T spent 15 years playing it on and off. I really love seeing Gielinor with the new graphics and how all the low level armors and weapons don't look like re colored dupes of themselves. I also don't subscribe to the EOC argument. OSRS pvm at lower levels feels like chopping trees down the whole time. I actually enjoy skilling more in osrs than combat. But in rs3, if you pay attention you can optimize your adrenaline and take out enemies way faster, giving the player a more active role in the game. I still love osrs to death and and waiting for another leauge to drop but man i hate seeing people shit all over stuff they tried 10 years ago and never tried again. Idk how it's a bad thing that you literally get to play 2 good games on a membership for runescape.

I agree, it's silly haha. I have a maxed cb osrs account that has done hundreds of all three raids, etc. Thousands of stakes and lots of pking. I just got bored after like 300 expert toa kc. All of the bosses are ridiculously easy in osrs. 4 weeks ago I logged back into rs3 after not playing for over 6,000+ days (pretty much when eoc happened). I had lots of money and maxed cb stats, soul split, and overloads already since I played back in 2007. I bought some greater abilities, t90 weapons and armour, and tried some of the easier bosses in rs3, and holy fuck was it difficult. It actually felt like a challenge, and every new boss I attempt does. You really have to learn lots of mechanics, use defensive abilities, etc. Rs3 is much more difficult boss wise than osrs, and it isn't close. That's what I felt was missing with osrs, and rs3 has hit the mark with it. I regret not giving it a chance for the last decade.

very interesting to read this! yes it definetly is more difficult and that is the reason EoC happened ofc; to bring more variety to bossing within the rs meta. osrs is limited by its combat system and what they managed to do with it is incredible, however i feel like if you are good at it, you can do pretty much anything

So, fun story... Well over three years ago, I got back into runescape when someone else I watched did a short series based off of a certain swamp man's region-locked account. I ended up checking out said swamp man's videos and was really interested in the content. I think I ended up watching a few other osrs videos before deciding to give runescape a try. ...I should have realized something was off, as the last time I played runescape, dungeoneering was the newest skill and I remember hating training my summoning. However, I quickly became aware of the split after I started playing rs3. Rs3 has its issues, yes. It took me awhile to learn how to properly set up my action bars, and I still don't think they're... optimal. However, I loved the game. I am a lorehound who really likes the lore of the world and is so curious where the story will go next. I became part of a clan that helped me relearn the game and introduced me to bossing, though unfortunately now my clan seems to be mostly inactive. I got 99 in every skill in about a year's time of playing, and I've got a couple 120s now, too. Despite not playing osrs at the time, I still watched a lot of osrs content makers. It was interesting to see the differences between the two games and seeing what lore was the same and different. Though I did try to keep myself from getting too spoiled, as I wanted to maybe try it eventually. I remember when the Nightmare was announced and there was mentions of seasingers, a race you can meet in rs3... Oooh, the lorehound in me was very happy. I started getting burnt out on rs3, but when the osrs shattered relics league was announced... I took a leap of faith, created my osrs account the weekend before the league, and don't regret it. There's training methods that I like in osrs that don't exist in rs3, such as the rooftop agility courses. Zeah, in particular, really grabbed my attention. It isn't perfect (it's much easier to get favor with certain houses than others, especially at first), but I really like the training opportunities and the lore around it. I also liked some of the new quests. During the league, I made a... decision to not skip any quest bundles that included new quests (with exception to the miniquest for nex, as... no, I was not going to fight her, thank you). I wanted to experience them all for myself. I also tried out some bossing, too. The Grotesque Guardians became a quick fav of mine, even if I didn't get any really good unique drops. I also will not be forgetting the near-death experience that was my one Vorkath kill on the day before the league's end, right after I completed dragon slayer 2. And after the league, I ended up really loving guardians of the rift. Currently, my highest skill on my osrs account is actually runecrafting, which is kinda hilarious...? Unfortunately, I'm a bit burnt out on runescape as whole currently. That, and there's also a lot of other good games to play. Still, I know I'll come back to both of them sometime in the future. There's the new boss coming to rs3, and I imagine whatever league osrs comes up with next will intrigue me, if something else doesn't get me before then. Also, it's always fun to watch people give rs3 an honest shot and enjoy the game, and there's still a lot of interesting osrs content people keep coming up with, too. Both games are good. Even if I don't play it for a bit, it's like that saying goes... You don't quit runescape, you just take breaks.

love both games OSRS and RS3 aswell but i am 100% against the powercreep claim..the no powercreep in runescape is one of its most unique features as an mmo,the fact that u work for something and is not devalued with the next patch is super strong...and i say this as a 13 year wow player who knows kinda lot about powercreep..also powercreep kills content and makes part of the world irrelevant,which is another strong point of rs that most of the world and activities help u progress and are not dead content,needless to say that having items retain their value through the years also give them a status,a distinction...everyone in Runescape knows what Bnados armor is, tell me what armor you were wearing in patch 6.2 in wow :P noone knows..it was just the bis of the patch...a feature that is abysmal for an rpg element..Rs3 has not such strong powercreep but still is there and killing content

Osrs sux. They killed off the best character in the game! On a serious note though I played an iron on both osrs and rs3 and it actually took me relatively the same amount of time to max both accounts. Granted I didnt get 120 in all the skills that go to 120, around 115-118 for herb farm slayer and arch and I think 105ish dung, before I lost my hcim status and started a new hcim because I make bad decisions. Results may vary from person to person I just thought I'd mention my own personal experience

I could not get into OSRS no matter how many times I tried. So many of my friends play and enjoy OSRS and have told me how they think RS3 is terrible yet, lo and behold, I ended up enjoying the latter far more. I like RuneScape 3's combat, quests, fashion mechanic, and presentation far more than OSRS's. I wish I had gotten into the game sooner. Just a lesson to try things out yourself and form your own opinions. Don't just believe something is bad just because someone else says it is.

I don't like rs3 because eoc ruined the game for me. Had a 1b bank that tanked to 10% overnight. Alched the claws and quit. Dungeoneering being released as a skill rather than a minigame really rubbed me the wrong way too. A "skill" that can only be done in *one* area, with *reward points* that you cash in for *rewards*, and on top of that, these rewards were the *best in slot* nullifying the need to even play the game for any of the other content, locked behind repetitive square "dungeons"... Jagex had a chance to listen to the players saying we didn't want EOC but they thought they were too deep so they went ahead anyway and the only reason they didnt feel the price of their actions was because they introduced the squeal of fortune and pay to win mechanics in a game that had valued grinding for wealth and achievement. Suddenly the people with gambling addictions and credit cards were propping up the company. Osrs isnt much better. The fact that you can buy bonds and trade them for in game cash from other players makes it pay to win all over again. On top of that you have people using external clients like runelite to give them unfair advantages such as where to stand for bosses, when to pray exactly so they don't take damage, and even plugins that basically scout raids for you. Bots will be standing around on pvp worlds and will ping a discord chat to let people know when and where and who to jump so it isnt fair there either. I signed up for runescape, not wowscape. I liked pvp with special attack bars that could be dumped any time,not ability bars that had to be built up over time. Oh, dont even get me started on the xp counters. A product of double xp weekends that fucked the economy so bad and jaded so many people. Summoning was the most popular skill to train. Really jaded the guys who got their levels without the bonus xp. As far as the xp counters go, they need to be taken out of the game. At the very least, completely disable them in the wilderness. It's another one of those things that isnt exactly fair. Players waiting for the "perfect" xp drop to use their spec to guarantee a kill isnt really risking it is it? I'm sorry i thought this was the wilderness. It needs to feel like the wild west. Speakin of wildy, get rid of loot keys. Let people get jumped. It's called the wilderness ffs. The fact a guy can abuse all those mechanics and make a youtube video about their fat pk loot stacks just makes me not want to ever step into the wilderness. None of it is great anymore.

you can do pretty much most things using revolution combat (the game autocasts abilities in a certain order) think there's a youtuber called zingy that covers it for bossing. only real downside to it is you might end up using more food compared to fully know your own rotations/usage of defensive abilities. i'd say you should definitely give it a go, just look up a good rotation bar (the wiki has presets) keep in mind some abilities unlock through skill levelup so you won't start with all of em
@ChevalricRS
@ChevalricRS 2 жыл бұрын
Yuri's comment covered most of it. I might actually make a guide, very barebones, on how to learn it as well. The main thing is: play revolution, take note what certain abillities do and try them yourself within revolution. (revolution also allows you to manually cast) So for example: the needle strike ability for crossbows, lowers a targets defence. If you combine that with a treshold (an abilitiy costing more than 50% adren to use) it hits like a truck, compared to using a basic ability after it. It's mainly learning step by step. I personally play revolution, but i do my own rotations when i cba
@refresh4736
@refresh4736 2 жыл бұрын
You can do everything early to mid game with a simple revolution bar that automatically uses abilities for you. Even in late game, you can still get by most content with a revo bar and a few keybinds if you are properly geared. At the highest levels of end game, you have to learn to properly use them all together, but its a pretty natural progression of learning by that time since you will probably be changing things up to reach for more dps/easier clears on your own before you actually are forced to.

Personally as a guy who grew up playing RS2 which is now OSRS, I can relate to that love for OSRS and hate for RS3. New people, new players enjoy RS3 and it's good, it's fine. Some people enjoy OSRS and it's fine too. What I feel in RS3 is bad, not only from a nostalgia standpoint , but from a fact that I've played a ton of MMO's (I used to work as a reviewer so I had to play a lot of them) and played RS when it was new, the RS3 just throws xp in your face. I didn't get a single "ore smelted" to make bars to lvl up my smithing. I just used protean bars from TH keys and it just ripped through leveling. It was to fast and too easy. Sitting now on like 73-74 smithing I don't even care what can I do with it. In OSRS every level was an acomplishment with low xp rates, you wanted to push that level to see what tree you could chop up next for more xp. People chatting while chopping Yew next to GE, doing their homework in the same time. Pure nostalgia. But hey! Guess what? You like RS3? Go for it :) Play whatever makes you happy :)

What they don't tell you is the old, old school runescape clan wars. There used to be a thing called honor when PKing, back when rs2 was released - You weren't allowed to return in clan wars or drag people away from the battle. If you got piled, you were dead. If you returned to the battle - your clan got a no honor tag & you were likely kicked. Then those pricks NH (No Honor clan) came out. they broke all the rules so the big clans had to, too. then wars ended up 12 hours, millions in rune lost. It lost it's fun completely. That was the downfall of PKing.

I'm an old player from Classic who played as a kid all the way through RS3 into the endgame - maxed stats, billions of gp, every boss killed and sufficiently farmed. I switched to OSRS with group ironman and I'm loving it. RS3 to me has changed into an "endgame" focused game. Just look at what and how they release things - they intentionally make it more navigable to get into the "fun" content that RS3 has become! I hope they bring group ironman to RS3, because as someone who's done everything except ironman content, I'm having a blast in OSRS. They're both different games, albeit with similar goals - grind out your account, get the levels, get the gear, unlock the areas and in game systems. It's just that RS3 is so heavily centered on the end content, and that's fine! OSRS from what I've played has definitely been "more about the journey than the destination" so far - but as I haven't seen the "destination" endgame content yet in OSRS who knows, maybe it'll be even more fun for me than RS3!

@@ChevalricRS I feel like that was part of the problem with getting into runescape when I was 8 years old back in 2003. There was such a skill curve to merchanting, and bossing and questing because the instructions were so vague and as an 8 year old, I wasn't searching forums for tips on questing, skilling, etc. I remember cutting logs for DAYS because that was the best way I knew how to make money and it got old. The other thing is, I work 45 hours a week minimum, I don't want to spend 8 freaking hours leveling up agility 1 level just so I can go quest or make money "the most efficient way." That's what ruins OSRS to me is it is SO grindey that botting seems like the only way to actually unlock the content you want to enjoy the game. And rs3’s endgame is way more fun yet challenging to learn.. yes you can use revolution (+,++,+++) but its not easy to master… mastering end game mechanics is only the beginning and once you do its a complete different experience lol a satisfying one… went from 9 minute kerapac solos with bis slowly to 5 minutes and aiming for 3 minutes

Sure, you could techincally mtx your way up to max stats and bis gear, but it would cost you some insane amout of money, and even if you did, you can't buy skill to kill end game bosses, let alone do it efficiently. I say the following from the perspective of a maxed player with near bis gear achieved through 15 years of work; The elite of RS3 aren't the guys with max capes, its a 20 year old game at this point, so thats probably the majority of players. The real elite are the ones who can farm 2.5k telos, get 2:30 raksha kills, push enrage on zammy up to 4k in a month or other similarly ridiculous pvm accomplishments which I'm not even close to and likely won't be for years if ever. There is nothing "ezscape" about end game pvm in this game.

Facts, as someone who has entered the proper late game about 2 months ago; i fully agree with what you are saying. The skill needed to learn zuk, zammy and all the other end game bosses is fairly steep; once you get it, just like anything in runescape, it is super easy to replicate in most instances. The skill ceiling in runescape is sooo stupid high, that it could never be considered ez scape; only a fair few can

Well, if you do not consider the bosses, it is easyscape tough. I'm above 2 bill XP now, and back in the day I never could have done this. XP rates are through the roof like 1 mill combat xp/hour and things like that. I refuse to do bossing in RS. Every time I tried it I just felt that it sucks compared to other games. The "square/box" nature of the map + the timing of the skills make it feel like a clunky lagfest to me compared to anything else I ever tried bossing in (GW, GW2, Lineage 2, etc). The majority of my playtime is afk grind, and this is what I liked the most in this game. It's a bit rough to see that once I max out everything (it's not that far away considering I'm almost at 50%) the game will be kind of "done" for me. Maybe I could go for making bills via marching or something but getting a phat is next to impossible IMHO and there is nothing else to spend the money on.

@@LannisterFromDaRock Let me preface what i say with this; I am just over 2.5b total exp, so I have done my fair share of skilling. I personally don't think it changes much for a skill to take 500 hours or 1000 hours of afking to max, as thats simply time investment and not skill; its just as easy to do if its 1/2 the exp rate, just more of a time sink. In either case the majority of players will never max every single one of them, and the specific type of player who would will do it either way, so it still carries the same prestige. If you think the game is too easy you always have the option of making an ironman, or if you really think its too easy make a snowflake account with special restrictions, or perhaps challenge yourself to see how fast you can max an account? There are plenty of options that are skill expressive even without combat. On another note, I really think you would enjoy combat if you give it a good chance with a group of players willing to teach, I know its clunky at first, been there done that, but once you get the hang of it its quite fun and quite satisfying, especially when you get a drop and feel like all the effort you made learning it properly has paid off. I haven't had anything quite as satisfying in a game in a long while as when i got my Grico codex after the Raksha learning curve.

The main thing I dislike about rs3 is all the fear of missing out events and the extent that the mtx has gotten to. If people want to spend money for stuff then I don’t really care, but both of those things have gotten very predatory as well as heavily endorse gambling “even though they adjusted treasure hunter” which can be a crippling addiction.
@ChevalricRS
@ChevalricRS Жыл бұрын
i agree that it can be an addiction, but the sad truth of it is, when people have gotten to that point they will find an outlet non the less. whether that is runescape 3 TH or CSHGO loot boxes. I obv would prefer it not to be in the game either, but to what extend is it jagex' responsibility what someone does with their money? FOMO sure, but that is also something that you create yourself; a cosmetic is cool, but its not like you are missing out on an FsoA

He’s talking about how rs3 isn’t easier than OSRS after talking about bonus XP (which is funny on its own) and WHILE showing footage of an agility course you can’t fail and don’t have to move the camera for. If there was a course like that in OSRS, half the players would riot.

your 100 percent correct i bet you if they released runescape classics right now, everyone starts from scratch it would have more players then rs3 now, runescape classics is similar to osrs it still feels like runescape. Rs3 seems like a bad clone copy of world of warcraft. Jagex has a history of killing its own game versions to try to encourage players to go to the version they want. They did the samething with the move from runescape classics to rs2 by limiting who could play and that you needed membership and hiding rs classics links from the main page. They tried something similar with eoc/rs3 they would hide old school runescape links on the page or make it hard to see. I told folks years ago osrs would slowly take over as the main game and you would have eoc/rs3 players jump ship to osrs then try to turn osrs into eoc/rs3. The only reason they come to osrs and try to turn it into rs3 is because rs3 low population and dying player base. The only reason folks stayed with rs3 for long was because they had already skills and gp and items from years ago. My take on it is play the game you want osrs or rs3 and have fun.

I think both are their own separate thing now and comparisons are pretty pointless. I've really tried to play and enjoy rs3 but I can't, the reasons for this are pretty longwinded so I won't explain it here but I'm glad the game still exists and has a player base, more power to you if you like it!
