As per scriptures, Thamizh went side by side with Sanskrit. Both were equally used. Bhagwan Karthikeya was the progenitor of Thamizh. Both are as old and gold as Sanatana Dharma itself. Thamizh is mentioned by Shri Rama in Ramayana itself when they visit Maharishi Agastya's ashrama within Dandakaranya (Southern Bharat). Maharishi Agastya followed Brahman Varna (there was no birth hierarchy in ancient Bharat, all these stupefaction are modern concoctions thanks to colonials), but was the greatest contributor to Thamizh. The entire future guiding Olai Chudis (Palm Leaf manuscripts of each person relating to their fingerprints) was scripted by Maharishi Agastya in Thamizh entirely. Both even during BC's (pre - Mauryan and a segment of Mauryan Empire) were written in Brahmi Script. After which the gradual shift to Prakrit and then Devanagari came about. This can be read from linguistic sources. Even Wikipedia mentions Brahmi script being used widely in Bharata prior to Prakrit taking foothold. But all are our own scripts. There is definitely no Aryan - Dravidian involved. Those that differentiate Thamizh and Sanskritam either do not know or learnt true history or do not wish to know it. Shows how well Indians have fallen into the conspiracy of colonial power. Bharat Maata ki Jai ! Vande Maatram !

Second, just to make it clear that I am not debating which language is oldest, since after so long it is impossible to trace actual time of origin of languages. I just wanted to correct that Pur or Puram is Sanskrit word, and my argument for that is, (1) You can find use of word Puram in Rig Ved to denote places and cities, can you give any such reference in old Tamil text. If yes, then is it older than Rig Ved? (2) This is just a query if any of my Tamil brother/sister can explain, why in the state of Tamil Nadu there are only 2-3 city names having 'pur', 'puram' or 'pore' suffix. If it is Tamil word then shouldn't most of the cities of Tamil Nadu should have this suffix ?

Tamil language is the oldest language, even before Sanskrit came to exist. Many texts dated back to 3000 BC & before. Not only in India, Srilanka & Singapore but also in Balochistan of Pakistan they speak Brihui (A Dravida language 95% similar to Tamil). I'm a linguistic student and I know these facts. Many believe that majority of Indians during 3000 BCE used to speak Tamil. It slowly got extinct due to introduction of texts which were written in Sanskit. Why? Because people got materials in the form of text to read & understand each other rather than just speaking the bare language. Tamil texts were only written in Stones which are found in Tamil Nadu & Kerala. If Tamil wasn't so wide spread then how some population group in Balochistan speak a dravida language then? Why more than 60% of Tamil words are similar to Korean?
