Thanks, Nick for this review. My S1 mini is not rechargeable (several years old) but it is copper rather than black and has functioned perfectly as a true EDC light which gets used very often. The several Olight flashlights that I own have all worked well for me. Thanks again for your thoughtful reviews of both lights and knives.

Got a.great deal on this light during an olight flash sale, $35. It's so small I don't even bother to clip it to my pocket, just through it in the bottom of my pocket. Love the two way clip. The battery holds a charge for a good amount of time. I used to carry an s2r baton as my edc but now the s2r resides in my get home bag. All around I'm very pleased with the s1 mini hcri.

I’ve had mine for 4 years now, it does what it was intended for, great for edc, mine looks like shit compared to that new one though lol I stoped using it with the pocket clip so it just lives in my pocket amongst other metal objects like my Keyes sometimes so it’s pretty scratched up but still works like a champ, still on the same battery too

Ive been carrying this for a while. I can fit this light and my leatherman Rev into the 5th pocket of my jeans which is a ton of kit in a tiny pocket. Its very durable, im pulling my light out constantly at work Ive dropped it a bunch on tile and concrete, dropped it in puddles, used it in the rain and cold. Never an issue. Ive lost it like twice...its almost too small. Lockout sucks for sure. It has gone dead after being on in my pocket.
@f22shift6 жыл бұрын
I like your d25a better as an edc. I’ve found these short fat lights are not so comfortable in the pocket as a thinner body and the shortness makes the light fall out accidentally. I have the s1 and it had a weird quirk in the ui. It would remember the highest setting up to a certain time( maybe A few min). After that time it would start at medium. I hated that because sometimes I just want a one click quick highest brightness. It wasn’t a true memory. Not sure if this light has the same quirk.

I carry a rechargeable flashlight that uses one RCR123 battery and while I love it, it's a little fatter than I would like. I wish there were more 14500 flashlights with built in micro usb charging on the market.
@evshrug6 жыл бұрын
f22shift was that accounting for the charge left in the battery? The highest brightness is only available for a few minutes at the full charge of a battery, then it’s supposed to ramp down to high mode. Every very bright lithium battery operated flashlight is like this.
@jdgarrison99136 жыл бұрын
I've lost two S1 batons because they just would not stay in the pocket. I'm with you, I would rather carry a longer, thinner light because it's less likely to fall out.

I like that light a lot.. It took me a while to warm up to USB.. But, I got a Nitecore TIP for $30 and it's a great keychain light...It has a default setting where it shuts down after 30 seconds.. When pressed on again, it stays on and then goes back to default..I like the 2 switches (one off/on, other mode)..360 lumens on turbo.. It has low battery lights etc.. Can't say enough good about this light..It's the only EDC light I need..

I saw a hack on KZbin to put little magnets on the clip with a shrinking tube. This way you have one option more to stick the light to a ferromagnetic surface. It is pretty easy to do. Two little magnets will do the job just fine.
@RumzDizzle6 жыл бұрын
Got a Ti S1 and bought the mini during the Xmas sale. Actually bought a few for Xmas gifts. One complaint about mine is the magnet is not as strong as the original. Love it otherwise. Does the one you have have a weak magnet? I think it’s a great feature for edc lights.
@WL-tw4nt6 жыл бұрын
I bought the non-HCRI version a couple of weeks ago. I agree that it's a great little light given it's size and weight. However, there were three things that I didn't like. First, if you look closely, the center of the beam shows some artifacts. Secondly, the clip is longer than the previous model so it gets in the way a bit when screwing or unscrewing the end cap. Lastly, I wish that the magnet was removable, but it appears to be either pressed into the end cap or affixed with some kind of industrial adhesive. I was never able to pry it out.
@MrSachasan6 жыл бұрын
W L can you remove the magnet in the back ?

It's gotten to the point that LEDs, even fairly budget friendly ones, can output far more light than you really need. What really makes flashlights stand out to me is CRI more than lumens, as well as useful features like built in micro usb recharging. On the higher end, having a wide variety of programmable modes is nice to see.

First time I've seen this style rechargeable battery, it's pretty cool! But I still prefer tiny AAA LED flashlights, some of which are also Olights. AAA LED lights are just easier to carry at all times; as the keychain on my car/house keys they've helped me out countless times, run time nor insufficient lumens has never been an issue.

The magnet tail caps are more of a PITA than not. Rarely will you ever find a purpose for the magnetic mounting option. I will not say never ,but not often will there be a metal surface in a proper location to direct the light to the right spot. I’ve seen TV commercials showing a as seen on TV light where it was attached to the fender of the vehicle while changing a flat tire and the light could in no way be shining on the actual work area, like the lug nuts! The magnet cap for me causes more trouble than it’s worth buy attaching to other thing in tool box,a pack or pocket, like your key chain, knifes, or just an random metal object it comes in close proximity to. I’ve found myself removing these type of objects many more times than I found the magnetic tail cap useful in holding the light to shine where I needed it.

Nice review Nick. It's a cool light, but I don't like that Olight makes you hold the button down for what seems like an eternity to unlock. That is a numb design on small lights like this--because they have to be locked out regularly to prevent lighting your crotch on fire. I say take away the stupid strobe and use the triple-click for lock/unlock instead. If you hit an attacker with that strobe he will just get pissed off and victimize you twice as hard. Haha
