Australia needs more people like Professor Andrew Short making decisions for the people and the country! What he's saying towards the end is the most sensible thing to do but it's also the Aussie thing to do. Keep beaches like that for the community. Make it a public place! Don't sell it off to the rich! That's what happened in the States too much! I am an American that was born in Australia. I've lived there, learned to surf there and have a lot of family still there! Most of my extended family. Not to take away from the incredible surfers in this video or the amazing swell that occurred during this time! I'm a product of the late 70's so Tom Carroll has always been my hero!

Shaun Tomson: My name is Sean as well. You were the surfing champion of the world the year I was born! You're a legend as Midget is as well. I was born in Sydney but grew up in Minnesota. After relocating several times just to surf, I found waves on Lake Superior! My dream is to surf Narrabeen, Avalon, Manly or any of the beaches of the city I was born in! Call me Shaun. lol. Let me put you in a 5/4 wetsuit with a hood, gloves and booties and surf some over head barrels in fresh water while it's snowing. Then you can take me to J-bay! Deal?

I remember 86, i was living in Bondi then, Fairy bower was an epic 12 feet with the break in front of the point whose name i cant fucking think of at the mo[getting old] just HUGE dredging drainpipes that sounded like all the water in the ocean going down a gigantic plughole,lol..Fucking AWESOME, somehow i gathered the nuts to to get the shit flogged out of me getting out, got two of the heaviest barrels of my life:) It made big Nias look tame!! Any of you who know this break that barrels only yards from the rocks would know just how shit scary it is at this size!! What a day :) ARRRGHH, it shits me, i just cant dredge up the name of this beast from my fading ,abused memory,lol I THINK it has the same name as the left around the point from Bells beach??? HELP!!!

Makes me think of the Cali Pipeline. It is rare but less rare that breaks 3-5 times a year. I had some epic days of huge square thick barrels vibrations felt on the beach. Did not need big wave guns but need to pop up quick and not make a bottom turn. Epic huge spiting green rooms.

Not sure who it was at the end that had to bail by running up and driving the nose down to avoid decapitating, (whoever) but my admiration go's out for that man! as a great water man and great surfer; he not only had a fantastic tube ride but saved a life of another by using his experience in dropping out of site. So on a huge day like in this video, how does one paddle out the back on a high volume, long length board that's impossible to duck dive? Just getting out there must be an epic achivement. Could anyone share any tips on how these guys manage to do it? I have found using a high volume board on bigger, powerful days makes it a real challenge to get out. of course the length and volume is required to catch theses beasts but I am just intrigued as to how these guys pull it off??
@EcopiuM3 жыл бұрын
Most of these guys cheat on their skis mate. Don't worry about it too much and if need be just throw your board and dive down.
@nicktrueman2242 ай бұрын
Yeah many use skis like said but if you have offshore reef set ups with deep channels, if you can get through the beach break you can paddle through the channel and the big sets can closeout channels depending how deep they are. But yeah, get through the maelstrom or a sneaky jump off spot and you can be out on a maxing reef. But always surf to your abilities and fitness. Don't ever let someone push you into something you are not comfortable going out in. Remember you got to get in yet;)

From the 1940's until 2020 the collaroy to narrabeen coastal erosion zone has ebbed and flowed over the decades but hasnt moved. my question: are global sea levels rising? my suspicions are leading me to believe that its not. 70 years is quite a while and the sea lines are staying consistent. what is going on?????

When I lived in the Orkney Isles, off the north coast of Scotland UK, seals used to ride waves with me... Whether they did it anyway, naturally, or learned from me I don't know, but they definitely paddled for waves and rode them. I'm guessing many other surfers must have seen the same thing

Think about the fact that every wave now and in the future is as a result of the energy initiated at the moment of the big bang. A breaking wave is the final act of just one pulse of that energy.

I was in oz /I'm a bloody aussie from the Gong all my life . Now don't get all excited and get to Ireland. It's brutally cold in the water....
