@Glyn Actually Bid has another meaning which is "to ask someone to do something" and "an attempt to achieve or get something" Also a lot of people don't understand it when someone says "Communication is the key" In the end I think it means if I try to connect with someone and if they respond in a way I think is good. Like a game where you do quests or have dialogue or give gifts, you get points in making that person like you. That work remains the same even when you are officially together and is crucial in making it last.
@PatrickHNguyen
@PatrickHNguyen 4 жыл бұрын
@@cookiesyruplover is correct. A "bid" in this context is a more Specific subset of "Communication," and, if as Glyn says: Communication is key, then Specifying while speaking is absolutely essential in order to accurately communicate what you want to say so how the person you talk to receives it is as you meant it when you were speaking.

My husband and I have been talking/practicing bids for 10 years and it is very helpful. If one of us doesnt respond in a good way, we just say, "Um, hey, that was a bid just now." Neither of us like being ignored, placated, or rebuffed. So it is a signal to do a U-Turn for a second and try again. It works

What I've discovered is shared humor is in every happy long term relationship I can remember throughout my whole life. My grandparents had probably the closest relationship I've ever seen and they laughed non-stop, even when my grandma was pissed at something he did he would just crack a joke and it was like it never even happened. They say couples that play together stay together and humor is constant play.

This is something that I am actively trying to work on. Sometimes i shut down bids for connection when I don't feel the topic is of importance. Like if someone asked an impossible question like "What would it be like to be the size of an ant"... I dismiss those as not important and brush them off instead of seeing them as bids for connections and engaging with them. It's actually really hard to catch myself doing it around ppl that I am comfortable with, so I am trying to be more aware of it.

Basically there's three (although I vaguely recall a fourth but can't remember) 1) ignoring (turning away) - basically you don't pay attention at all 2) resisting (turning against) - acknowledging but negatively responding 3) connection (turning towards) - acknowledging and positively responding The first two don't make a connection and thus don't further your relationship. The last one does. Turning away is not simply ignoring it entirely but rather not responding actively For instance, "look at this bird!" Might be met with an "uh huh yeah that's nice" Turning against is negative and sometimes belittling. Say you're busy and get asked something, turning against that question could be "Why are you always asking me stuff when I'm busy?" Turning towards is full listening or even just saying "that sounds great but I'm currently a little busy, but let's talk later?" It's about your response. You're not going to 100% turn towards all the time. Things get missed, misunderstood, misinterpreted. We get distracted, sometimes need an extra nudge. The important thing is that you make efforts to turn towards as much as you can to build a foundation of mutual respect and communication.

I think she explained it well, but I felt like it was missing some more examples, maybe. but considering all her videos are like this, to me is how she creates: simple, fast explanations. you might need to go back and re-watch it, but that's kind of the ideia I gues, thinking again, and again, and again. and, being completely honest, you can try to understand all she says, but I think true understanding comes from experiencing. maybe if you just try to be more receptive and pay more attention to those around you, you won't need to understand bids, and will already be connecting wow, this got long too fast. sorry.

Well, I'm actually in the opposite boat. I love communicating non-verbal through writing and online and texts, it doesn't drain me at all and I don't have to try and process what someone is telling me(I am autistic), but maybe through the contrast I can help. I often feel disconnected to people when trying to talk with them, unless they themselves are people I resonate with and can use sensory communication with then most words feel numb or not important because my brain doesn't process verbal communication well. I still have trouble reminding myself that verbal communication is important and has the same or even more value to others than non-verbal, but there are things that help.

The bid idea is interesting. I feel though like mine are always rejected by my boyfriend though :( I really want us to work but it gets harder and harder. Spending time with him makes me feel exhausted. I wonder if that's how relationships you're putting an effort in feel like or this is just toxic 😔
@jerusha4jesus

Having a relationship isn't all sunshine and rainbows. Even if you love him, it's hard to keep it up so you gotta persevere. Wait for a little bit more time and... if it's toxic you'll know.

I hate to admit it, but it is happening the same with me.. It doesn`t have to be toxic, for the fact that he doesn`t pay me attention.. He doesn`t do.me any harm, but he doesn`t do me any good either.. Why am.I even in this relationship?

Only time I've felt exhausted by a relationship I learned later it was very, very toxic. Relationships should be give and take. If your partner is only taking, you should give them the boot.
@rosemary709

A relationship should make you feel loved, not exhausted. Either talk to him about your needs, and see if you can still work on it, or just dump him because if you put the effort and he doesn't, there's no point.

@@sassikay yeah same hereee... i was never in a romantic relationship though but even with my friends, the one person who made me feel exhausted after hanging out with turned out ti be awfully toxic and that was a manifestation of the behaviour. consider criticising yalls relationships using a bit of an impartial eye guys

i am so in love with my boyfriend. we spend every single day together, connecting and responding to each other's bids, and we have become an amazingly healthy couple. it just goes to show that communication is key. over the past few months i've been with him, it has truly opened my eyes to how many arguments we could have avoided if we had just listened to each other. as soon as we both realised this, the amount of arguments we had plummeted by a lot. the question was raised - why spend time with your partner being sad or angry when you could be spending it happily? but then again, don't forget that you're allowed to feel emotions. don't feel bad for feeling angry or sad - but just communicate with your partner that you're feeling this way. don't leave them in the dark, as it will end up with the two of you growing frustrated at one another and therefore making the situation worse. if something's not right in the relationship - then both of you need to put in the effort to take action to prevent it happening. and if you slip up now and again, that's okay, because you're human, and you can't be infallible.

A big secret to a relationship is don’t assume it’s 50/50 because you and your partner won’t define 100% the same way. Figure you’re in for at least 70 and accept that. You don’t get to resent giving 70 because that is solely your decision, it’s your calculation of what it takes to sustain a relationship and the relationship is either worth that or it’s not.

Never thought about it in that way. Not responding to a bid seem a bit discourteous, and lacking in manners. It’s good you have a staff to enable and aid you in getting over these negative set backs we’re all dealing with, but in a non pandemic normal way. I really enjoy your parody’s on life, and enjoy the messages you provide us with those “Timmy” moments.

I think there's three things that guarantee success in a long term relationship. Tolerance, you have to accept the other person is a normal human being. Passion. and Communication. If you have those three you can overcome anything else.

tech tip: Even though it has a known vulnerability, you can use the WPS button from the router... You don't need to ask for permission for having a password. you don't even need a password. Just go to the router, press the wps button and connect, thats it. the next time you go to a friend's house, just click that button... you don't need to ask the password neither ask for permission. Usability vs security problem ;)
