@@marc8828 a series/parallel switching for humbucker is MUCH MUCH better than coil-split. It gives a single coil sound (just a little bit fatter) BUT without the hum of a single coil. Series of course being the normal humbucker and parallel being the 2 coils of the humbucker wired in parallel and giving a bit less ouput and more treble. Works for 2 single coils as well.

I think every guitar player needs one of these guitars (if versatility in mind): 1a) a humbucker guitar: Les Paul, SG, ES-335, Flying V, Firebird, Yamaha Revstar, PRS, Jackson, Ibanez or any other metal guitar 1b) a P90-guitar: Les Paul Special / Junior / Goldtop or a PRS or any other guitar with P90s These are for rock / metal / blues / jazz / any music that needs a lot of distortion AND/OR a fat humbucker sound 2) a single coil guitar: Strat, Tele, Jaguar, Mustang, Danelectro - with ONLY single coils - the humbuckers are for the category 1-guitars! These are for all the styles that need any charasteristic of the single coils - whether it was the chiminess, blending well to the mix or any other single coil charasteristic. Single coils are also very suitable for band playing when the guitar is not in the main role - or your guitar is not in the main role - so that you don't drown the band under your guitar sound with your humbuckers 3) an acoustic guitar of any sort 4) a weird electric guitar: a baritone, a double-neck, an unusual model like a Danelectro or a cheap 60s guitar (maybe made in Japan) or any guitar with unusual pickups, like gold foils or filter'trons. 5) a mix of any of the above: a strat or tele with a humbucker, a shred-guitar with a single coil in the middle position, a humbucker-P90-guitar or anything else that's either a mix or a guitar that you like particularly. With these you can play any style anywhere and get an appropriate guitar for it.

Yeah. Say I want to play clean guitar for a verse and then super heavy guitar for a chorus, just turn the volume for the rhythm pickup down, and then keep the volume all the way up for the treble pickup, so the distortion kicks in with a flick of a switch. Except I do it with an ibanez ar420, which is essentially a double cut les paul shape, but cheaper and with a better neck.

MOH It means what I said. Putting a humbucker into a Strat doesn’t make it sound like another guitar with a humbucker. i.e. You don’t make a Strat into Les Paul just by putting a humbucker into it... or indeed into an SG, etc etc. I’m not saying it’s a bad or worse sound. It’s just the sound of a Strat with a humbucker. And to add to my point and to paraphrase yours... “but Les Pauls come with a single coil option”. And they absolutely do... there are pretty much as many single coil Les Pauls available as humbucker equipped Strats. Does putting a single coil in a Les Paul make it sound like a Strat? No, of course not. It gives you a different sound option just like the humbucker in the Strat does but it doesn’t replicate or replace the sound option of the other style of guitar.

My "the one" is Ibanez AS73G. It's relatively cheap at ~450$, build quality is good, the pickups are decent (and can change them later for upgrade). It can produce a lots of different tones just with the knobs and pickup switch. I play it acoustically when spending evening with my friends, it can be shredded (looks dumb because hollow body), it looks amazing making me wanna play when I see it. It rocks, it jazzes, it blueses and it does country. Only thing I think it misses is a single coil in between two humbuckers, but honestly I don't even know if any commonly available not expensive guitar has that. I saved about half a year for mine (I have loan to pay from my paycheck lol) and I haven't regretted. My first guitar was an old Japanese Ibanez SG 2440 (1976, yeah, they don't make that one anymore =P ) and it just couldn't do the acoustic stuff no matter how much amp sim I push it through. Then I played some more and realised that I really want something with single coils and whammy, so bought cheap Ibanez Gio GRX40 with 170$. The build quality amazed me, didn't expect much for that price. It's stays decently in tune if tuned carefully and in the correct way, even if I have the bridge floating. And yeah, you need to file the nut yourself because the factory didn't do a good job at all. The pickups are what you would expect, not saying they're really bad, but they're not even decent, basically I play with tone knobs turned almost all the way down and throw in some precise EQ (and I think they used the wrong kind of pots tbh) to make it sound decent. It's cheap enough that I'm comfortable to mod it, test out coil splitting, weird wiring, out of phase stuff..things you don't want to do with your good guitars. And the pickups can always be changed, and honestly think that 100$ worth of pickups would make it a 300$ guitar.

G Money Music Is Win brings his prejudices to a video like this shocker!! 😛 To be fair to him any guitarist would bring his own prejudices to a video like this which I why I think these kind of “best guitar for this style or genre” videos are total nonsense... don’t really know why I watched it!! Some of my own personal views: - best blues and best rock guitar same category? Oh come on Tyler!! - best rock guitar the Strat?!! Nope!! Has to be Les Paul; - did I miss it or did he not have categories for country or for indie rock? - best jazz guitar an ES-335? Really. I know this was a “from my personal collection” video but by trying to pick guitars from his own collection you end up with silly things like this. Can an ES-335 do jazz? Of course. Is it even close to the best jazz guitar. No. Just shows that Tyler doesn’t really do jazz. 🤷🏼‍♂️ That’s fine. Neither do I. An ES-335 would be my closest guitar from my collection but I’m well aware there are way more suited guitars I don’t own so I personally wouldn’t try to do a “best guitar for this genre” video from my own collection. Just wouldn’t; - ES-335’s best genre is jazz?!! Oh for 🦊 sake!! It’s way better for indie, rock, pop, blues than it is for jazz. But of course the above are just my opinions.

My one guitar is a sg, I personally only have an epiphone but that was my first guitar and it’s the one that made me fall in love with guitars. I’ve had a Gibson Les Paul since and as similar as they are they’re just different enough to make me choose the sg every time
