This is the first time someone has explained clearly, simply, and comparatively how the swing is adjusted between driver and irons! Very helpful. I have good days either one or the other and scratch my head why. Now I know how to adjust. Thank you!

I've struggled constantly with 'good day irons - bad day driver' and vice versa. So many other instructors focus on club head position in the back swing, rotation, and hinge-unhinge. No doubt important. But I have never had this explained in such a simple manner. Easy to visualize when you are out there to make this simple correction. Thanks Carolin! 👏

Astounding. Never seen this visual before in any magazine or video instruction. So appreciative. Will work on this because I can see immediately why I have been struggling with my driver. Thanks, Coach!

I was for a long time a strong driver but was hit or miss with my irons (particularly 5 -8) until a few weeks ago when I had gotten a foot injury, bruise on the insole of my left foot. I couldn't drive for Smuckers but figuring I have to leave my lead foot planted while playing short was a game changer

That makes lots of sense- Thank you for the tip! I've learned to drop my right shoulder at address which also allows me to launch the ball on impact but if your hands are leading and the club head is behind then it will never get launched into the air. For this it makes more sense for iron since you have to dig down and through with the ball. I must have also fixed something as well in my game and I no longer slice anymore (probably the way I grip the club). When I played yesterday, my driver tee-off had low trajectory which I later found out I wasn't teeing my ball high enough. I forgot the rule of teeing your ball halfway up the club height and I think my tees were too short (2 3/4"). But this hallway wall helps us all see from the front perspective since we always like to record our hits on the course from behind which doesn't really show the clear picture and help you address issues. Better get some primer and paint to touch-up those dings and scratches on the wall. =) Another quick question- why do pro players create huge divots after hitting an iron shot? Does creating a divot indicate you are hitting the ball properly or does creating a divot help you impact more spin on your shots?
@MustafaBaabad3 ай бұрын
I was wondering when she is explaing about golf swing inside such a compact room. But when she explained about "impact" then everything makes more sense. Yes impact is the moment of truth where everything count, speed, direction and the position of the club face. Thank you and Cheers from Indonesia.

For me, it is exactly the other way round. I hit my driver much better than my irons, my best shots come with my 3wood off the fairway, and the clubs with which I struggle most are short irons and wedges. I always think that it has to do with the fact that my first sports were tennis and baseball, so flatter swings come a lot easier to me.
@lkae45 ай бұрын
One-length iron sets aren't super popular but there's a new trend of one-length shorter irons. Might help. My specs are standard but I play irons and wedges +2 inches for the increased swing weight. My posture and swing plane also improved. I picked up a standard wedge the other day and it felt extremely short and uncomfortable.

CC - loved this. easily my biggest prob - way steep on D. With driver swing being so fundamentally different than irons, can you parse the subtle differences in swing thoughts from top of the backswing through release? I think i have the exact same swing thoughts there - yet the swings are so very different . what swing thoughts CHANGE from the top of your backswing thru release driver vs irons. how about some side-by-side bullets - so the subtleties JUMP OUT 😁⛳️

For myself, I say I’m better with my irons for one simple reason. My iron swing is easy to duplicate over and over so my shots are more consistent. With my driver it’s extremely hard for me to build the muscle memory to duplicate the swing every shot. The length of the driver and being tall just make more room for error.

Coach Carolin, how much spine angle tilt is recommended for driver as opposed to the irons? I do about a 20% tilt on the driver and practically neutral on the irons. Is that too much tilt or too less on both?

Does this mean that what would be classed as a flip with irons is actually perfectly acceptable with a driver? I wonder this because when I FEEL flippy (might not actually be happening) like a bunker splash shot - I hit my driver great!

Why hit down on the ball with an iron? Everyone say so, and I do. But why? Doesn't that deloft the club? And the more you hit down, the more you deloft?
@coachcarolin5 ай бұрын
its due to how clubs are built, and also, if you hit down on the irons the correct amount that is taken into consideration in the build as that is how the club performs the best. So only if you hit down it further than standard are you actually delofting it.
@f.scott.fitzbeagle5 ай бұрын
@@coachcarolin Thank you. I enjoy your videos.
@hammer86_4 ай бұрын
With a higher loft, if you sweep the ball, you will hit the ball low on the club face. To hit the ball with the center of the club face you need to hit slightly down. Less so with long irons.

It is on the PGA Tour, it is +3 on the LPGA. It has to do with equipment and swing speed for the PGA Tour players but it does range within a few degrees and also depends on what kind of shot you want to hit. If they want to hit it high and carry it further downwind, that changes.
