I always thought of that ability as "want" If you want something from AI then of course there's a price to pay. AI themselves want something from Killua, his attention or praise, so they are ones paying the price for it in the form of wishes. Killua also noted that AI doesn't ask for ridiculous things when the wish is to heal, meaning the price is sort of a punishment and deterrent for greedy & selfish requests.
@tristanalain9239 Жыл бұрын
I think that the only reason Killua can do Commands and bypass the Wish system is when he uses them for altruistic and less selfish reasons. Every command or request he made of Nanika was towards an altruistic and almost completely selfless goal motivated by love. I think that is why Killua has that role. Nanika knows that Killua is the one who loves Alluka the most, is the kindness, respects her identity, sees her as a person, and therefore the least likely to misuse her power, and that if he has a request it's for a good cause. Basically I think Ai, the Codependence of Desire works in such a way. If selfish greedy or evil people use her power for selfish or self reasons, Ai grants it at a price. But if one has a desire motivated by love and the vessel is shown unconditional love that person is allowed to give commands which are granted as a "reward" for that love and selflessness. That might be the reason it is called "Ai, the Codependence of Desire" The wish and costs are the Codependence one would have using it selfishly, but the love and use of it selflessly grants your desires. I feel like basically Togashi had a lot of fucking layers in that name. Afterall, the first part of its name as Dark Continent entity is literally "Love" in Japanese.

I guarantee that there's another restriction to giving commands to Nanika. It could come back to haunt Killua if Ai is injured or dies or Alluka could face the worst drath Nanika has at it's disposal. We may also run into more Ai and I can only imagine what would happen if two of them fought. Nothing is free in Togashi's writing. He always throws a twist into the mix that we couldn't have imagined. Killua could be wasting away his life the same way Emperor Time does with Kurapika. I doubt it'll happen during this arc but just wait. If we ever reach the DC arc, we're sure to find more Ai or creatures stronger than Ai. I think the creatures of the Dark Continent are meant to be broken; giving Togashi free range to do anything he wants.

The special needle is the only thing saving her from being a plothole up until her appearance. Killua had no intention to act on Nanika in any form before then, because the needle probably labeled her as an unnecessary risk he shouldn't seek while suppressing his ability to even remember her. The will of that needle is Illumi's after all and he'd have the most knowledge of the danger and probably wanted to keep Killua's thoughts far away from her after seeing how chummy he was with Nanika. Killua's timing for seeking her out leads me to believe it was indeed the needle paired with the type of request keeping him from considering her as an option.
@Tomeroche Жыл бұрын
I think the big reason Nanika isn't used is because her wish granting, while powerful, seems to come with arbitrary and unpredictable knock on effects. When she grants a wish for money she doesn't just conjure it out of nowhere, she teleports a blimp filled with cash and has it all rain down from above. When she heals Gon he isn't back to perfect condition and must retrain his Nen abilities. It's entirely possible that there's always the fear that the way Nanika grants a wish could lead to an even worse situation than before or end up negating itself in some way. A wish to kill the Chimera ant king could have basically just ended up with Gon or someone going through the same transformation as before and killing the king before undergoing the same downsides. It could have opened a door to the Dark Continent and summoned one of the Calamaties or other monsters to kill the king. It could have powered up and forced one of the guards to kill the king and now you have to deal with them going insane and wanting to obliterate humanity due to this act. It could have called down a meteor to land on the king and resulted in an extinction event.
@uwotm8634 Жыл бұрын
Yeah it definitely seems like a cause and effect type of ability. Otherwise Ai would just be a godlike figure or plot device. But there must also be some wishes Ai can't grant, like bringing someone back to life (not as a puppet but genuinely alive), since it would require way too much in return.
@bbittercoffee Жыл бұрын
@@uwotm8634I think Ai would rather obliterate itself before not granting a wish, I don't think a life is that great, I mean, immortality is basically that but much greater, and I think THAT would have an actually impossibly high cost, like, the entire world or even universe level of cost

I think commands are also earned by loving Alluka and Nanika in the first place. If they’re given enough good will and affection, Nanika can give a wish more freely, either out of faith that Killua would pay it back or because his love for her IS powering the Nen ability to an extent.

However there is something he mentions in one of the final episodes to Gon that if it wasn’t for him he would never have had the chance to save Alluka. and i think this is meant physically and mentally because yeah gon opened up killuas world but more importantly it was because of Gon’s friendship that led Killua to become aware of a remove illumis needle. Which could have definitely been limiting Killuas thoughts and action around Alluka just as it was the rest of his life. Illumi certainly wouldn’t want Killua to be interfering with Alluka. TLDR: Illumis needle is the reason why and I think that narratively fits as well.

Nanika's ability regulates itself anyway as any other "op" nen abilities. Her power of wish comes with insane restriction which means she could possibly wish to kill Meruem but on other hand the three request following it would probably be impossible to fulfill and the retribution would most likely be that 99% of the population dies for it. Unless you instakill her right after the wish or lock her up forever. And like you said Kilua exposing her would just mean she would foirever be the target of every greedy/dangerous human being. Now the only thing left in the dark is if the "command" from Killua is possible but there's 3 things we don't know 1: if a command itself can kill. 2: If Killua is allowed to ask for a kill as a command. 3: if there's a power limit to commands (like killing or ressurecting) but no power limit to wishes. Now, if you are smart like Goblin slayer there's a little bypass of power which is "teleportation" that Killua used on Illumi. Which means Killua may be able to kill Meruem without asking to "'kill" him by teleporting him to the bottom of the ocean or in the middle of a volcano. But then there's the condition that Alluka must know/see the person and maybe having herself already visited such places which is impossible except maybe for space ? But then Togashi could just ask us "is space really a location ?" or "the power is limited to the atmosphere of earth" etc. or the condition would be that the person targeted by teleportation must have themselves visited said location, then if we reach this point I guess there's nothing more to try to find if it really breaks HxH, the power in fact regulates itself and is simply "greater the wish, greater the price" and you just prefer to never wish to kill Meruem unless you want everything to disappear. Lastly we know the more "value" the thing wished has, the greater is penalty like money costing 67 lives. BUT we still don't know (correct me if I'm wrong) whats the direct cost of extinguishing a life through a wish. A single random life depending on race, age, weight, position in life etc could very well cost from a peeble to million lives. Depending on how Nanika's power itself estimate the value of Meruem's life yea it could affect the entire humanity.

i have wondered if perhaps Alluka's base ability would not really be that powerful. She would just ask for the small things a child would want, like pick me up, hug me, i want that toy, etc. and the subsequent consequences if refused would be small. She would not have had much aura to grant any big wishes or cause any big consequences (and even as an adult may never have had enough aura to grant really big wishes). Maybe in this innocuous period, young kid Killua "wished" that Alluka would help him when he needed to be helped (just a regular 2 sibling conversation, possibly even before anyone knew Alluka had manifested nen already) and the subsequent "requests" were so small, they were easy to fulfill (like Killua pat me on the head, Killua hug me, Killua love me). And then voila, Killua can ask for Alluka's help from now on in a fashion that is NOT the wish granting route (but not wildly abuse her powers to do "anything", depending on how his original ask was worded...). At some point, the Zoldycks of course realized she was manifesting nen. And when they saw that their small toddler child was amazingly doing this so young and seemingly like the first and only (?) Zoldyck to be a specialist, they started to "experiment" on how to make her powers even more powerful. So they put an Ai in her. A "codependency of desire" would be a perfect fuel of a wish (desire) granting ability. And Ai may be like a battery that charges Alluka to be able to fulfill large and more grand scale wishes (sadly with equal consequences). and then when things got way out of hand, they realized they could not control her and locked her into that dungeon. We also still don't really know if ANYTHING we have been told about Nanika/Alluka is actually correct since many Togashi/HxH characters (even smart ones) are shown making incorrect assumptions and conclusions while they try to work things out. Even if Killua did not accidentally wish himself out of some of Alluka/Nanika's consequences earlier in life, we do not really know if there were no consequences at all the things he asks of Alluka. He has discovered he can conditionally ask Alluka to do something and if that condition is not met, no wish is granted and no demands/consequences result (like when he was escaping with her and said to kill their mom if they were not let go.... IF.... so when they were let go, nothing resulted from that "wish"). Maybe to save Gon (which we mysteriously see next to nothing of exactly what happened in that room), consequences were present, perhaps Killua had to reaffirm his love for Alluka by choosing to stay at her side and leave Gon's side. Not in some evil manipulative manifestation on Alluka's part, but just perhaps as part of a prior pact they had made with each other at a much younger age. And if Ai is charging Alluka, perhaps if Ai can be removed (or chooses to leave Alluka one day), Alluka can lead a "normal" life and not be targeted by everyone who wants to abuse Alluka/Nanika's powers.

Killua knowing the state Gon was in and how critical he was, and how smart Killua is, could have just wished/commanded Nanika to heal him from any location. Thus Implying, that 1. Either Killua already knows some kind of limits to Nanika's power, thus the same logic of Killing Meruem would take getting Nanika Near him or Touch him. or 2. Killua again being so smart, knows that he can manipulate Nanika with his emotions and thus get free wishes etc, by geting Nanika/Alluka to see him very sad and emotional. (which is ironic but falls in line with how manipulative the whole Zoldyck family is) basically there is either major plot holes or more limitations than we think, just bc its "wish" powers. even with Kite for example, Most Likely Nanika could NOT bring people back from the dead. or They could have brought Kite/Netero back etc. Also Kite was already alive elesewhere as a toddler was he not? Zeno obviously knowing how important or powerful Netero is and knowing Killua can get away with consequence free wishes etc. Or Ging obviously being a Genius and knew immediately what most likely occurred to have healed Gon when he felt the power. Or maybe it sees him as even lower, an insect, in which case it can cost only a hug? Or maybe a more accurate monetary representation would be the cost of the bomb Netero used to take Meruem out, the Poor Man's Rose, which I think is worth a LOT less then an entire country GDB, and it makes sense since you basically need to bring into existence and explode that bomb to take Meruem out of the game, or a force of similar amplitude, so maybe a few hundreds people? Which, honestly, is not bad a at all, a lot more died during the Chimera Ark, and if they didn't stopped him, 5 million would die.

If I had to bet, Killua only gets a singular request in his entire life or something. Command granting probably has more restrictions than what we currently or ever will know

4:00 wait, Alluka made four requests here, not three. Either you're allowed to refuse three times per a stage of request, or three requests overall. If the latter... maybe you're then not allowed to wish for something big? it's a really interesting ability, but I think it will never be explored more, sadly

Something I always wondered about nanika that was never clarified is how time sensitive her requests are. If she requested a kidney, and you said sure thing, give me three weeks. And you underwent an operation and successfully removed one kidney and survived with the remaining one. Is that something she would tolerate?
@mushroomfiesta Жыл бұрын
I think so. “wait” doesn’t really sound like a direct refusal
@Suto_Ko Жыл бұрын
nanika's requests are not explicitly stated to be time-sensitive, so it's possible that she could tolerate a delayed fulfillment of a request like the kidney scenario you mentioned. However, the exact limitations and conditions of nanika's powers are not fully clarified in the story.
@RickGreg-nt1nt Жыл бұрын
The problem I had with the whole nanika wish granting ability is the question how do you determine the value of things that don't have a normal monetary worth. For example when the servant asked for a billion jenny and in exchange 67 ppl were killed was that because the servant seen it as a billion jenny was worth 67 lives or because nanika set that value. If it was the former if a person that was already rich asked for the same would it only cost ten human lives bc the value of money isnt as much to them.
@minuii Жыл бұрын
You can bypass her request by treating her request as a child request. " give me your brain" you give her a picture or drawing of a brain that it says its yours. Boom easy peasy😂😂

Given Nanika’s pattern of having her requests and wish granting exploited on a linguistic technicality, part of me wonders if you can accept the debts she asks you to pay but formulate it as a contract for the time of payment to be collected upon your death similar to an organ donor card so long as she doesn’t intentionally orchestrate your death.
@chrisbotha7433 Жыл бұрын
To killing Mereum I would say Killua didn't rely on Alluka/Ai because he views them both as his sister and his only "real" non assassin family. So even if she could, he doesn't want his little sister to kill, no matter the cost. Why he wouldn't heal Kite becomes more complicated. The best real argument is that even Killua is human and compromises his values. So for Gon, his friendship and love for him made him break his rule not to use his sister as a tool because it was more important to him. But for Kite, even though he may care for and respect him, his human desire to heal Kite may not have been important enough to override the value and importance he attaches to protecting his sister. I am quite satisfied that we will never see Alluka/Ai used again. I think prior to Gon there was nothing Killua valued more than being a protective older sibling to Alluka, and I don't think anything will easily make him compromise again. I like to view it not as a plot hole but as exceptional character writing for Killua.

I don't like the idea that Killua making a "command" results in no consequences. I prefer to think that Aluka/Nanika bear the cost in some way. Maybe that can get elaborated on more if Togashi ever gets back to that part of the story.
@coef100 Жыл бұрын
I think the answer is simpler than protect Nanika from the world. I think Killua was just selfish. He would have not used Nanika If it wasn't Gon's state. He loves Gon and Aluka. He does not care if other people are in danger as long as he could keep Gon and Aluka healthy. So Gon was in a bad condition, Killua decided to use Nanika.
@wadewilson8011 Жыл бұрын
I know this is a hypothetical scenario video, but... You say, "why didn't Killua just bring Alluka to kill Meruem?" In hindsight, thats a silly question. What everyone forgets to remember is Killua completely forgot about Alluka until he finally took Illumi's needle out. Iliumi and Silva had Killua restricted through the commands of illumi's manipulation nen. And his memory of Alluka was purposely blocked. By the time Killua pulled the needle out, he didn't have time to go all the way back to Kockaroo Mountain. He would've had to convince his dad to see her, retrieve Alluka, and bring her all the way back to the NGL. When Killua finally took the needle out, it was already time for the East Gortou infiltration, and palace invasion plan to engage. So questioning Alluka's possible evolvement doesn't make sense. Togashi knew what he was doing.

What I'm wondering though is Nanika really omnipotent or is she just too powerful for the HxH world? Cuz we know she lived in the New World before and just traveled to HXH so I'm wondering is the reason she is so strong because of the difference between the New World and HXH or is she really just super OP? The other disasters also have reality bending effects like making people immortal and stuff.

nanika's power is indeed incredibly strong, capable of reality-bending effects. Whether it's due to the difference between the New World and HxH or if she's just naturally super OP is unclear. The other disasters also possess reality-altering abilities, suggesting a level of immense power.

The wish Killua should have made instead of for Nanika to not come out anymore was for Nanika to seal her nen abilities permanently but still be able to come out when Alluka is sleeping or she is called. Then they could both exist and they wouldn't be a target of Illumi.

4:35 conjunctions, compound words; do compound words count or no? Furthermore couldn't you just write down what you want a piece of paper and just say, "I wish for everything that was on this paper" or even "I wish your wishes require nothing in return to be given in order to fulfill the wish", etc. This is why wish powers are HARD TO BALANCE, in a hard magic system because you have to think of every possible request. Also could you bypass the wish requirements such as stealing someone else's liver and therefore it would be yours or does the person specify YOUR specific liver inside your body? After all if you take something can you hold possession of another person's body part?

Killua largely tries to avoid reliance on his family on his adventures. He didn't seek his family out to help fight Mereum nor Chrollo. He's on this journey to make friends and have fun. Only when his friend was at risk was he willing to go back there and get help. I don't feel like a monetary value would apply to his death, unless the request was to take his wealth.

The comments section already came up with an answer years ago. "Ask nanika to kill meruem, then trick a chimera ant into denying her requests three times." Ant problem solved. This is why wish granting breaks every story that it's in, and basic writing courses just flat out say "just don't do it." How hard is it to just leave it at "Yeah, the writer just dropped the ball there, and didn't realize the full implications of that decision before it was published"?

Is there anyone else who thinks that the fact that the hunter hunter world map is a jumbled up version of the real world map has any significance. Because every time I see that picture I can only think that maybe the hunter hunter world is actually our world, just after some cataclysmic event that tore apart the Eurasian continent. It even looks like there's a big hole, like from some kind of meteor impact in the middle of that crack. My assumption is that whatever caused that cataclysmic event is also the thing that introduced Nen into that world. Any thoughts?
