A nitpicker is a person who finds faults, however small or unimportant, everywhere they look. After seeing a movie, a nitpicker lists every tiny thing he or she didn't like about it.
Use the informal nitpicker when you're talking about someone who is extremely critical, even when those criticisms seem inconsequential. If you can always find something to complain about, you're probably a nitpicker. a nitpicker is as careful and meticulous about finding faults as a literal nitpicker would be about finding each tiny nit
Having high expectations is certainly not a bad thing. However, when high expectations translate into nitpicking, it is a problem. Some nitpickers are just highly arrogant types who think they know what’s best for everyone. Others are actually anxious and worrisome, and they nitpick because they need to feel some sense of control. Others believe that they are offering the team a valuable contribution by over-analyzing everything
If you are a nitpicking boss, you could be crushing employees’ morale. Every time you pick apart an employees’ work, they’ll think “Man, I can’t do anything right,” and they may give up trying to meet your unrealistic expectations. It’s demoralizing to work hard on something, only to have the boss disregard the effort and positive qualities and focus on some trivial detail.

I forgot to mention one other thing in the video. This type of individual also expects you to do favours for them from time to time, and they'll tell you through implying that you either "Haven't" or "Should've" done so

mr forged i thank you for all the advice and wisdom you have given us dudes. you have helped me during my self improvement journey. some people ive encountered in my life try to tell me who i am and who i am not but thanks to your wisdom and advice. you have helped me stay true to myself. never lose yourself king okay, sadly there will be many people who would want to try and break you down and become this mindless husk of a man snuffing out all the potential you have in your life. i wish you the best and once again i thank you for what you do. men like you give us dudes hope to live our life to the fullest so one day when our time has come we may die with a smile on our face

It took me until 42 to finally admit that some of my closest relatives and friends were like this. I cut them out of my life and it’s a wonderful feeling not being gas lite on a daily basis and being constantly confused because my accomplishments by all accounts were awesome to me but seemed like sh@@ to them. I recently invented a brand new exercise equipment that will change the way people strengthen their lower abdominal muscles and they treated it like it was nothing and stupid so I cut them out and I’m bringing it to market in June of this year 💯🙏🙏

One insidious form this can take is when you have achieived something, and these nit pickers turn around to say something along the lines of "next time you'll do better". It initially sounds like encouragement, but if you really put attention on it, you quickly come to realize there was never any aspect of acknowledging or celebrating your achievement. It can be hard to spot as there are people out there who genuinely say and mean these comments. But when it comes to the nit pickers, like Mr Forged mentions in the video, you need to keep watch for their eye contact and body language. They will almost never look directly at you, or have closed body language/always be facing away. It can take a long time to pick up on, but eventually you come to realize these people never positively acknowledge any achievements made by others. Spent my childhood surrounded by this kind of attitude from almost every close adult in my life (anyone who was in my life on an even semi regular basis). Got more praise, encouragement and celebration from complete strangers than anyone i actually knew. Eventually it wears you down and makes you feel like you're never good enough, but you'll never really understand why.

I have SOME extended family that are actual enemies, so I know how to carefully run away from these types of people... Deal with them with a long spoon or from a distance (acting as if i didn't feel the passive aggressive mockery)... We are such social animals that sometimes we have to eat with an enemy, smile with an enemy and even attend an enemy's party in the name of diplomacy.

imagine being strong/capable enough to achieve a certain thing/feat in your life and then having that achievement shattered because of something someone else said... jesus... sounds like a lack of self-respect/self-esteem to me... actually, it reminds me of those supposedly "happy" people who get instantly bummed out after a sad story...

My arts teacher on middle school was like that. She would always complain about our drawings. "this line could have been better", "the contrast on this drawing is off", "you could have used a better combination of colors". Everyone on my class hated her, the complains were so high that the principal had to replace her with the teacher that teached the children from the kindergarden. At least the replacement teacher liked our drawings.

There is always a fine line to tread, I had a teacher who usually pointed out the things we did well in any task, before offering critique on things we could have improved, I believe that is the most effective way to teach an art student, without deprecating nor spoiling them.
