The belief of all Pan-African people being connected by the continent, therefore, remembering the history and those who paved the way. 2.) Since his mother is Black American, Erik could have easily represented her side. Yes, he could have literally had an ancestor jump...and that same ancestor had other relatives on the ship. My oldest uncle died before I was born, but the rest of his brothers & sisters were alive. Most have passed on, so now, my mother, my aunts, and most of my uncles are now ancestors. 💁

Jina Koffi I greatly respect your insight. I do have to disagree with your second point though. Since Killmonger was Wakandan he never had ancestors in bondage as Wakanda was never conquered by ANYONE in the world according to marvel’s storytelling. So in addictive to them making the big mistake of making T’challa and Erik cousins (because killmonger is not of royal blood and never would’ve been able to eat the heart shaped herb without being poisoned) he never would have had an empathy for being enslaved because no one in his family would’ve ever fallen victim to it.

One big difference in terms of the context of each "fight for the throne" was that the protagonists came from different places: T'Challa was the Prince and heir-apparent looking to live up to his recently deceased father, whereas Aquaman was an outsider with no connection to his heritage and no expectations or desire for the throne. Needless to say, the fight in Aquaman had a lot less emotional value.

I think the Atlanteans adapted to the pressure below the ocean, so they move "normally" underwater and are superhumans on dry land. That might explain why they can fight so easily while submeged. This also explains why the ordinary humans can't "outswim" a fish (?).

Well I think you missed the point in the first fight between Aquaman and Orm. Orm was the one who provoked Arthur into challenging him, so that he could beat the first born and more rightful ruler of Atlantic according to royal hyerarchy in a rightful fight for the Throne, in front of Atlantic people. At the start of the movie, it’s already stated that Orm didn’t have full claim to the throne because Arthur existed and was the queen’s first born. So OF COURSE Arthur didn’t want to do this fight to claim the throne like Killmonger did. He was TRICKED into doing so as Orm attacked him verbally and purposefully for Arthur to say it out loud, and it was also Orm who said that this would be the fight for the throne, not Arthur (Arthur just “whatever” because he didn’t understand the Atlantic culture, that’s why Mera said this fight happened way too early according to her plan - because Arthur had no motivation nor reputation at that point). So basically the two fights are completely different. You’re right about the fight between Killmonger and Tchalla but the fight between Orm and Arthur was purely Orm’s plan, in order to dismiss Arthur’s claim as the rightful heir to the throne - because Arthur has challenged Orm and has lost the battle. That’s the reason why Orm said he resented Arthur but he didn’t plan to kill his older brother for revenge or anything. He just planned to dishonored Arthur (thus all the embarassing info about Arthur displayed to his people), beat him up openly in a King’s fight, so his position as King cannot be attacked and overthrown by people who said he’s a second child anymore.

I accept your comparison if you only look at the first duel in Aquaman. But you ignored the second duel between Arthur and Orm at the movie's climax. You talked about how the first duel felt flat because Arthur didn't really want to be king. But that's actually the entire point of that fight. At that point in the movie, he doesn't yet truly want to be king. He's running away from his responsibility, and as a result he's constantly making errors in judgement and decision-making. Mera and Vulko discouraged him from fighting Orm the first time because they knew he wasn't ready, but Arthur fought him anyway, and he lost. It's only after Arthur finds his mother and reclaims Atlan's trident that he understands and accepts his obligation to become king. From then on he actually wants to become king, and the next time he duels Orm, he heeds Vulko's advice and takes the fight to the surface rather than underwater, and he ends up defeating Orm. It still may not be the same level of drama as the duels in Black Panther, but the final duel in Aquaman absolutely has dramatic impact because it represents Arthur finally fulfilling his obligation precisely because he's finally ready to seek it out. You really have to consider the final duel to get an accurate picture of the overall theme of the movie.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree. If anything, Aquaman got the better end of that stick. Not only did the Atlanteans have high tech, they also had badass sea creatures at their disposal. You could easily tell that our modern world would probably lose the war against them. BP on the other hand? In the comics, Wakanda was already colonizing the known galaxy. They also had hundreds of Battle Cruisers, each capable of space flight, and each with enough firepower to level any major city on the planet. One of their warriors threw a high tech spear, that KO'ed Tony's Iron Man suit, while that suit was in stealth mode and several from miles away. They had huge robotic panthers , that could target and take out most of our modern missiles. What did Coogler do? He gave them "War Rhinos" and had them fighting with spears. People were even talking about how OUR real world USA would defeat Wakanda, based on what they saw in the movie, and from what LITTLE they know about fictional Wakanda. Fictional Wakanda is the most advanced nation in the world. They'd make the USA look like an impoverished 3rd world nation.

Also, for the same reason they didn't have full power Thanos in infinity war. In the long run it won't matter too much. Great Breakdown!!! But Orm’s motivation wasn’t actually to fight against pollution from the surface. It was purely selfish. Atlantis was broken into multiple factions. He wanted to Master them all and used a fight against the surface to unit them. Thus making him “THE OCEAN MASTER”.

7:35, actually, that is how swimming (kind of) works. It's something called skill and *water buoyancy.* Notice that ocean master increased his surface tension by spreading his arms and legs. It could also be explained with magic and/or telepathy. Magic part would come from Ocean Masters trident which has all sorts of magical abilities (comics) and telekinesis part can be explained with Atlanteans possessing telekinetic powers. I mean, if Mera could make alchohol explode than why can't Ocean Master control water current beneath him to stop him from falling into lava?

That’s not how surface tension works. Surface tension is an attribute of a liquid. “the tension of the surface film of a liquid caused by the attraction of the particles in the surface layer by the bulk of the liquid, which tends to minimize surface area.” Ocean Master does not have surface tension because he isn’t a liquid, and even if he were a liquid, his surface tension wouldn’t increase just because he spread his arms and legs. That makes no sense. And even if he were a liquid and could increase his surface tension, that still would not reduce his velocity, at all, because that’s not what surface tension does. Water buoyancy might make sense if he puffed up like a pufferfish. He would need to drastically increase his volume while maintaining his mass, which would reduce his density and increase his buoyancy. Spreading his arms and legs still does not do that. But a parachute doesn’t make you levitate in air, and it wouldn’t stop you on a dime or prevent you from touching the ground. So this moment is pretty unrealistic. I would say Orm wanted to do a bad thing for a good reason, and Killmonger wanted to do a morally neutral thing that would likely have many negative and positive consequences. Orm planned to dominate the surface because of the crimes of some humans. Killmonger planned to arm small, unorganized revolutionaries with weapons of unprecedented power that would probably end up being used to support dictators or perpetual conflict.

Personally I think the reason where Aquaman's CGI fails is the underwater hair and physics. Plus, the Karathen (the big Kaiju in the final battle) seems to move quite fast underwater. The movie is a first of its kind, mostly set underwater. Black Panther's only problem with CGI is it's poor rendering. Perhaps if the CGI team had much more time then there will be no complaints about how the tunnel fight looks very console graphics and the rhinos look very unrealistic.

Every action scene started with someone bursting in to attack, no build-up, no moment of "oh shit, the bad guys are coming." Just BOOM! They're here. They took no time to build intrigue and like the video said, even the crucial fights lacked tension because neither of the characters wanted to fight. Black Panther just took more effort to make you emotionally invested in all the action.

10 years later thing is a fact, as to this day, there's controversy about recasting Black Panther and that it's too early to use the cop out Shuri, as it didn't set her up for that because even Marvel wasn't expecting Boseman's sudden demise, nor realistically, expected for it to do so well. It seemed like a standalone film where if it flopped, then it would have a safety net. My source is End Game and how they didn't mention the stones in either IW or EG. Still, it would feel as painful as recasting Robin Williams for Genie. No matter how well Will sells it, *that's* Williams character.

Though I don’t think either is amazing, I prefer Aquaman. As cool as a black led superhero film is, that and Killmonger (who is admittedly a good villain) seem to make people think Black Panther is automatically amazing. But a lot of the rest of it is a mess. T’challa really has nothing to do for most of the movie, despite arguably being the best part of Civil War. The plot is pretty contrived, with Killmonger winning legitimately and then a lot of the people just siding with T’challa again because good guy. A lot of the CGI is horrible, particularly toward the end. And most of the characters are pretty unmemorable for me besides Killmonger, Klau, and Shuri.

Ok I paused it just as he's about to reveal the scene. For me personally, Black Panther has the best powerful speech in any Marvel movie. The epic Killmonger speech as he's about to die where after Black Panther offers to heal him and I'm paraphrasing so if I'm not accurate I apologize Killmonger: Bury me in the ocean with my ancestors.
