I disagree with your thoughts on the theme of "fear" regarding the absence of the rope. I think it ties into going back to his identity as Batman. In Batman Begins, he chooses the bat as a symbol of his own fear, which he turns to his advantage to stop crime. In this movie, he initially says he doesn't fear death, almost as if being Batman for all these years has made him fearless. It was only until he didn't use the rope that fear returned to him and pushed his body to the max and be able to jump to the platform. Also, the obvious imagery of the bats flying out before he makes the jump further proves this claim. Just my take.

You keep saying that the Dark Knight learned to overcome his fear of death. But, with respect, I don’t think that’s what the pit scene represents. He didn’t fear death, he embraced it. What let him escape the pit was learning to fear death again because he had something to live for. That’s why he had to jump without the rope. At least that’s my interpretation.

I think thats what they were building the whole trilogy. Bruce is always willing to put his life on the line because he doesnt fear death. 1:26 In the Old Man Logan comics that Logan is based on, Wolverine *actually* killed all the X-Men. Red Skull directed every Villain and Supervillain towards a hero that they normally wouldn't face. As such, Mysterio made Logan believe he was being attacked by every villain the X-Men had faced at once. "Logan, what did you do?" isn't Charles assuming anything, this is essentially confirmation that the same is true in the universe (but Fox don't have the rights to bring up Mysterio).
@PS-ug7nm4 жыл бұрын
In the movie it's Charles is the one who killed the mutants Logan has been keeping this information from the increasingly senile professor-which we find out when Charles, on what will become his death bed, suddenly remembers everything. “I don't deserve it, do I?” he says of the idyllic night he, X-23, and Logan spend on an Oklahoma farm after fleeing the casino. “I did something. . . something unspeakable. I remembered what happened in Westchester. This is not the first time that I’ve hurt people. Until today, I didn’t know. You didn’t tell me, so we kept on running away from it. I think . . . I finally understand you.” As terrifyingly potent as Charles’s brain is, he didn’t actually wipe out all the mutants. Modern science took care of the rest. In an attempt to get control of mutantkind, or so he claims, the evil Dr. Zander Rice (Richard E. Grant) concocted a formula that would suppress the mutant gene. Unfortunately, his formula-present in the genetically-altered corn syrup his company was mass manufacturing-nearly wiped out the mutants instead. There are a few stragglers, like Stephen Merchant’s Caliban, who survived both Charles and Dr. Rice. Maybe albinos prefer a corn-, sugar-free paleo diet? .... Sauce : VanityFair

I honestly never thought of the similarities between Logan and the dark knight rises since ones kinda of a standalone movie while the other is the third entry of the trilogy. I don’t get all the hate that the dark knight rises gets, it’s still imo An impressive and excellent conclusion to the dark knight trilogy, it’s pretty disappointing compared to the dark knight though, and at best it’s on par with Batman begins. While Nolan may half assed TDKR, it’s still a better movie than most superhero movies. Logan on the other hand, was just an incredible movie, emotionally resonate and a powerful standalone conclusion to wolverines character arch, and honestly one of the best superhero movies I’ve seen in a long time.

Well, the thing is, The Dark Knight Rises, like all other sequels, is compared more to the movie(s) in the series that preceded it and because Batman Begins & The Dark Knight were both SO DAMN GOOD (Batman Begins is underappreciated in my opinion) that The Dark Knight Rises would have had to maintain a sort of level that no other trilogy has. For example, while I liked Return of the Jedi pretty much the same as I liked The Empire Strikes Back however it is widely held among critics to be the weakest of the three movies. However, again, like many trilogies, take that movie out and judge it on its own and you get something appreciated much more. Another example of this would be that Godfather trilogy. However, I think you would come to find (again, not in my opinion because, like I said, I think Batman Begins is majorly underappreciated) that The Dark Knight Rises breaks the trend among these examples. For example, if you look at the IMDB ratings, with The Godfather Trilogy you have: The Godfather - 9.2 The Godfather: Part II - 9.0 The Godfather: Part III - 7.6 A New Hope: - 8.6 Empire Strikes Back - 8.7 Return of the Jedi - 8.3 Batman Begins - 8.2 The Dark Knight - 9.0 The Dark Knight Rises - 8.4 As you can see, so many people found The Godfather to be the best of the trilogy which, in comparison to other trilogies, is not uncommon. However, for the other two, the 2nd movie happened to be found to be the best of the trilogies (considering how great the first of each of these trilogies are, the fact that the 2nd movie in the latter 2 are considered better as well as considering how great so many people found The Godfather 2 to be, is something that makes these trilogies not just unique, but probably the three of the four best trilogies in movie existence). If you add the trilogy ratings together, The Godfather is the best at a total of 25.8 but the other two are just barely behind at a total of 25.6, giving the entire Godfather trilogy an average of 8.6 and the latter 2 an average of 8.5. However, for you, you may find it refreshing to see (Although I do not agree), that The Dark Knight Rises bucked the trend with the other two with the third being the worst as Rises is considered to be better than Batman Begins. So, you see, whoever thinks The Dark Knight Rises gets a lot of hate can be directed to this fact, which is that it is considered to be better the best (by rating or by being considered better than the original - even if I don't agree). If you notice I said three out of the best four and that is because there is one trilogy that beats them all on IMDB. Again, that is not really my opinion, nor do I think Return of the King is the best of the three but what can you do? I would say IMDB was wrong but considering it is actually just based on millions of people voting, it's hard to say it is not the general opinion of the people, but who knows what the standard voter of IMDB looks like other than, I would guess, younger people...and maybe younger people that hasn't seen the Godfather movies. I don't know. Anyway, in case people are wondering, they are rated: Fellowship of the Ring - 8.8 The Two Towers - 8.7 Return of the King - 8.9 This means the Lord of the Rings trilogy has a 26.4 total, meaning an average of 8.8, which is insane. It is also rare in that the third is considered the best. Anyway, at least you know The Dark Knight Rises is appreciated quite a bit as it is liked more than Godfather Part III & The Return of the Jedi and that the feeling that it isn't amazing is pretty much based on people only comparing it to the first 2 movies in the trilogy rather than fairly considering the movie on its own.

I always thought TDKR should have picked up immediately after TDK. Batman is already worn out and injured. Have Bane ambush him right then at the beginning of the movie. After breaking his back, Bane tells alfred that Batman must never return or the League of Shadows will return to destroy Gotham. Then the rest of the movie is about Bruce trying and failing to rehabilitate until the bomb is stolen by Bane. Bane was lying about the League not coming back. Batman eventually returns and wins.

My theory on the dark knight rises: Christopher Nolen wanted out. It was the last film in his contract and he wanted more funding for his passion projects

Dark Knight did have too many story lines. Could have eliminated the whole "Robin" line and had Catwoman saving the kids. Also, Bane - could barely understand him and he is usually the hired muscle and less out front. Anne Hathaway is nice, pretty, has curves, but absolutely lacked the danger or menace Catwoman should have. Think Michelle Pfeiffer, or Julie Newmar, both had menace to them, Anne was more of a cute college girl cosplaying at a decent sized -con. Just my two cents, your mileage will vary.

Nolan likes to have ensemble casts. I really dont see how its anymore a problem for Rises than it is for any other movie hes ever made.

Just rewatched Logan and The Dark Knight Rises and I gotta say Logan simply takes the cake. DKR is still freaking awesome but Logan wrapped up the X-Men and Logan so damn well. I shed a tear both times too 😭 When Logan tells Charles “it wasn’t me. It wasn’t me” it stuck me right in the heart Then when Charles talked about the sunseeker 😭😭😭😭😅😅😭

Controversial opinion TDKR was the better film. My only issue with the TDKR is Batman doesn't learn how to beat Bane after getting his ass kicked the first time. He just goes toe to toe with him again. In the Dark Knight Returns he beats a bigger, quicker, younger opponent by luring him in to a mud pit to take away the advantages he has with the line "your on a operating table and I'm the surgeon" as he breaks his joints before belting the shit out of him.

for me, the problem with the dark knight rises was the lackluster climax. all that setup and exposition done only to be paid off with "nO. I cAme BaCK to StOP yOu". also, with that plethora amount of exposition in the pit, i realized how much Nolan wanted Bruce and us(the audience) to believe that Bane was the child of Ra's al ghul, all for that plot twist to blow us away, which in my opinion.. didn't quite work. AND then, Talia's death lmao
@jakubrejak11144 жыл бұрын
Climax worked just fine, aside from Talia's death. Bane got outsmarted twice and finally lost. Gordon and Blake became smaller heroes of Gotham. And Bruce - whether he died or lived, finally achieved happiness.

Imagine in this alternate version where Batman doubles down on Batman and rejects his life as Bruce. He talks to Alfred in the Batman voice while out of costume. Alfred realizes Bruce is gone and leaves.

I like the movies Chris Nolan made but Begins is the only true Batman Movie I'll say he made. The Dark Knight as a whole is good but the only downsides to me is actually Batman himself with the cancer voice and how they spend more time talking about being a symbol than actually, doing. Rises was decent but again, his cancer voice got worse. Plus while stylized by Nolan's vision, Gotham doesn't seem too oppressive like the first. It looks too... Clean and not at all gothic like Burton or even the first movie. There's not enough street crime through out until the climax. It's more about the philosophies of men and suppressing chaos which works, I got what he was going for but it came off as too preachy and less subtle. Again, I liked the movies. Logan though was self contained and had really dark THEMES but they were mostly implied which, IMO is far better than outright saying it. The only complaint I had was the opening where it seemed a bit too try hard to reach the R rating but it hit with the themes of loss, grief, ageing and watching everything pass around you, nihilism and existentialism and pushing on a new generation. Similar to TDKR but, far better in execution. In short, Logan was far more mature with it's subject matter. That's just my hot take.

You lost me when you said ‘ He needs to be Batman cause Harvey dent died so they need him’. Did you watch the fucking movie? Gordon literally said he is ‘the hero Gotham deserves, BUT NOT THE ONE IT NEEDS RIGHT NOW.’ Plus your point of the pit being a ‘silly’ scene makes no sense. And what you said about TDKR ending makes is just damn bs..
