Hi from Sydney Australia David…. Just love your lessons mate. Would playing the swing 8ths feel just on the bottom E string and not using the D string with the index not be the same way to get that groove???

Good one - excellent advice! Next step would be to only "hear" and feel that extra note. This will result in the thumbed downbeats to be delayed ever so slightly creating the difference between a pulse and just 4/4 meter.
