Current problem is that in order to sell anything on eBay you not only have to promote the item, you need to have the item on sale and then accept a low best offer. All the profit is being sucked up in multiple directions. Item sells for a low price and most of the small profit goes back to eBay.

Kevin, another thing that I've noticed a dramatic increase in are when I check comps on something I'm getting flooded with seller offers on that item, just because I looked at others of the same. I don't think this is due to any change eBay has made, but is an indication of what other sellers are experiencing. If that's correct, then it seems an odd phenomenon that as retail prices are on a rocket sled up, resellers are having to REDUCE prices to maintain sales. Of course I think this is also a reflection in ever increasing shipping costs too. So I don't think this trend is sustainable. We will eventually get to a point of reducing prices that we can't make money, and then why continue reselling? This can go only so far. Would like to know what others are experiencing.

I agree 100%. The sourcing has gotten higher, prices on ebay are racing to the bottom. Profit tanks. Does not seem like a sustainable business model.

It is definitely happening with "non-essential" items. I don't know about things that people buy on eBay that are life necessities, but for non-investment collectibles, media and other "frivolous" things, it is a total race to the bottom. Times are very bad, many people can barely afford to spend money on anything non- essential now.

Yep, I'm discounting anywhere from 15-30%off depending on the item and how long I've had it. Very few things have been selling for full asking price. I also have had a markdown sale going on for like two weeks and prob will keep it going until black friday. Its a hard pill to swallow, but that's just how things are right now. I've had to severly adjust my mindset on things. I expect that next year, things will be improved cos i will not always discount this heavily.

My summer was slow. 1000-2000 lower than last year. October is already higher than last year and on par with May. 1 week left and 300 will make it my second best month this year. Disclaimer: if people stop trying to return to get a discount, or claim they didn't get the item despite tracking. During the past week, I have sold 10 items on Etsy and nothing on eBay, even tho the same items had a lower price on eBay. I am doing what is called "Sweedish Death Cleaning" and clearing out 8 decades of "stuff". eBay seems dead to me.

Yes, re-sellers are lowering the market with all these low prices! So aggravating!!!! A deal is 10-15% off used pricing but 50-60% is lowering the market. There’s a difference!!

eBay wasn’t created to support people quitting their jobs and selling yard sale finds on their platform. It was created for people to sell used items to people at whatever price they will buy it for. Im a "below seller" as the result of a death in the family which caused us to be out of state for a lengthy time. and ebay was the furthest from my mind. As a result ebay pulled listings and not allowing me to list until my next review.....a month with no new listings has been crushing! My moral is, do not go below!!! Ebay has no mercy. Prior to this i was above standard.

Someone on the eBay forums mentioned she had been a serious accident and was out of commission for a week or so. Couldn't ship her items because... she was unconscious! eBay terminated her account over it and refused to give her a second chance. And some of the eBay apologists on the eBay forums said she deserved it just because she didn't have family members ready to do it for her (not everyone in the world is fortunate enough to have actually have a family...) eBay (and its apologists) are absolutely RUTHLESS.

Her littername had a Hanna-Barbera name, Josie Ann the pussycat. What Kevin is saying matches what I've seen for a while now. Whatever you're selling, be it essentials or luxury items, moving it means selling for under market rate. That means buying as low as you can, because you make your money on the Buy, not the Sale. If you buy low enough, you can sell low and still make money.

Yup, had way more people 'watching' an item to get me to send an offer, had way more people ask for bulk discount and shipping discount when they want multiple items in my store. Had more people messaging me asking to lower shipping... people are addicted to deal hunting just like us when we're out sourcing. If I'm pricing above the going market rate I know the category well and had better be confident that item doesn't show up on ebay in that condition often.

Yep. I have a vintage sugar pourer and I have the piece that goes on top of the lid so it doesn't go gushing out. I was looking at others who said theirs is in excellent condition and no top piece😂. But I understand because everyone's is like that. Someone made me an offer which would have left me -2.00$- ticked me off actually and I was like nope and actually raised the price because it was too cheap to begin with. I can wait.

Almost everything I am selling is either in sale or from offers sent or received. Now I have noticed there must be videos going around how to get deals and recommend sending offers at 50% of price. I never accept those because they are too low but I have turned about 30 to 35% of those low offers into sales. So don't get mad at a 1/2 off offer, respond and see if they are serious and just looking for a deal

My husband was looking at some stuff on ebay the other day, didn't watch items, but was looking for some things. He said that with almost every item he looked at, he was sent an offer, often almost immediately. He said if that's what sellers are doing now, it makes him feel like he shouldn't pay full price because they're all sending offers now. That is exactly what I was feeling. Some sellers to me seem desperate when I look at something and minutes late get an offer. I wish it was only offers to watchers, like on Posh and Mercari. As for Disney cats, it has to be Oliver, from Oliver & Co.

She went straight to feedback instead of contacting me first. Asked both ebay and buyer to remove but no. Tried again today with a live person so will see. I am 10 items away from Top Rated. Trends are not something we see, except when everyone was home in 2020, we were swamped with orders. My husband did send out a bunch of offers lately, and we inexplicably, but mercifully, have had an amazing week selling, praise God! We’ve been in a horrendous drought for so long. Praying it continues for us and everyone, and not just in Q4. People are looking for bargains right now for obvious reasons. Most can barely afford groceries or other cost of living expenses. It’s been that way for far too long. It’s not easy finding a balance between selling for what we see as sold comps, and selling at a discount still trying to make a profit. It makes sourcing a bit more of a challenge, and a lot more selective.

On your last show where you got like five or six bags of items. You did something that I thought was low level, you pick roughly six bags of stuff not knowing the price of the items. Then the sellers shoots what I thought was a good price, you said it was to high and you would pay $200 where they wanted $650! You got them just where you want them. What are they supposed to do, put everything back, mind you 85% of this was still in the box. Of course they agreed due to the inconvenience of having to put everything back! This to me was the lowest of the lowest type of purchasing, bag everything up not knowing the price forcing seller to except your offer!

You don’t have the facts correct t on this one. First they told be that prices would be super cheap. They told me to make a big pile. They were encouraging all people to do so because they had to have everything gone that weekend. It was a rental clean out. I offered 200 they said 250 I believe not 650. It may have been 350.
