I briefly explain why I went with the Cobra Freeway Bar instead of the Harley Engine Guard I used on my previous bike. I also talk about the "Unfortunate Accident" that happened to my Viking Saddlebags on the Low Rider.

Looks like you grabbed the front brake. That's what happened to me while practicing in a parking lot. I was going slow, turning and slightly touched the front brake. It's crazy how it happens so fast. I had to replay the moment in my head for about a day to figure out what I did incorrectly. I had to pick it up myself...thanks to the COVID lockdown. I have lower back problems, so it took a few days to recover from that. The plastic light cover on the rear popped off. The crash bar saved it from further damage. I have a 2009 Sportster 1200 Custom. I recently purchased a 2005 Ninja 250 to use for practicing. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe

Your honesty and willingness to share with others is very admirable. Thank you! Maybe getting too comfortable which probably can lead to over-confidence can bite a rider in the ass when least expected. Seeing videos like yours is a reminder it can happen to any of us at anytime. I'm diehard chrome guy which probably gives my age away... but I really like your new Bob!

Don't allow yourself to get distracted. If you must fiddle with the controls or switches pull over or do it at home after you get home.

Overconfidence is probably the second biggest cause of motorcycle accidents, exceeded only by impaired driving. Overconfidence causes us to do stupid things, because "I'm a good enough rider to handle it.". NOPE.....

Glad your okay, After slowing down the video, it appears instead of the clutch you can see your right hand actually stab the front brake. Luckily nothing major was damaged but your pride. Thanks for the videos.

Thanks for a straight up video! I drop my sportster in parking lots I train in...its no biggie to me as it has helped me tremendously. I train when its wet from rain and dry so I can experience braking traction, sliding around. I also train in dirt fields dropping my bike repeatedly. Sometimes I get bruised and scraped up but its still fun. My stock crash bar worked wonders until recently I destroyed it crashing at 25mph lol on the asphalt. Keep rocking and enjoy your beautiful bike!

As the saying goes, "It's not if you drop your bike, but when you drop your bike." When I was a really new rider, I dropped my first bike on my first real ride. It was at the end of about 20 minutes of riding and was on the ride home. I was riding with two friends. On the ride home my friend with the most experience decided to ride beside me. We got to a left-hand 90 degree turn in a rural neighborhood and I was on the outside (right). I think we were going about 10mph around the turn and because my friend was to my side I ended up going wide. I was feeling confident and decided to give a little throttle and lean more into the turn. I ended up scraping the pegs, which surprised me and after that I'm not sure what happened but I ended up running off the road into the gravel on the shoulder and laid my bike down. Only thing I can say was my inexperience didn't allow me to have good muscle memory reactions. It was a low speed crash fortunately and only caused minor damage to both my bike and me. I learned a valuable lesson from that though and my riding improved. I haven't had an issue like that since. My other friend who was riding behind me said from his point of view I was riding fine and then I was down. At the time he was just as inexperienced as me and bragged that he got to practice his emergency stopping on a turn and passed with flying colors. lol Anyway, crashing your bike sucks, but it's so common, so don't fret it. And it could easily happen again. So stay vigilante, as it sounds like you are.

I can appreciate your only new to riding and trying to be open and honest. But the reason you crashed is because you used your front brake.. and your clutch you want to be out or in the friction zone but never in and rolling. Same with when you came to a stop at the traffic lights you should only pull the clutch in at the very last second before coming to a complete stop and not on your front brake. Good luck and stay up right 👍🏼 Good video.

What was your determining factor to trade in the low rider for a street bob? I love the street bob but don't like the smaller tank and gauge.

I’m sure you’ve heard it a dozen times on how you dropped your bike Bud , yeah clearly you pressed on front brake on the small turn instead of using your rear brake’s. But anyways Thank you for sharing and Good Luck ‘

Dumped my Electra glide in my driveway one morning at 4 am just trying to turn to leave. Looked at what I did when I got home and figured out the expansion joint in the driveway and the dew on the ground let my front tire slip and threw me down. The crash bars did their job

From the looks of it, your distraction worrying about the clock caused you to fail to maintain a proper speed through the curve while operating the friction zone of your clutch. Then you grabbed a murder grip on your front brake which was where you nosedived and the bike went over. I keep my display on the gear/tach readout. I don't bother with clocks and trip meters. I agree that some more training will be a good thing. Been riding Harley's for over 24 years. I wish you well.

The MFS course is an entry level course, but does not make anyone a good rider. I recommend watching Ride Like a Pro and Canyon Chasers on KZbin. These videos provide excellent instructions and will help you develop good skills. If you learn trail braking, how to feather the brakes and how to feather the clutch you will become a much better rider. The one skill I noticed that you do have is making videos, although this one was painful to watch.

You pressed the front brake too hard and too quickly. It's not clear why you did that since there was nothing to brake for. ABS could have saved you. Look at your right hand frame by frame, you will notice what caused the crash. BTW This happened to me too during my MSF course. I was riding too fast to stay within a turn, panicked and pressed the front brake like you did.

Now on a serious note I would hope ALL STATES made mandatory the MSF course. Good point on the Advanced riders course. I have a Beemer and was thinking to get the BMW riders course because I believe it build confidence on you riding that bike and confidence on what you're capable on doing with that bike... But then we got the Pandemic and everything went kinda south.. Great video brother Steel and ego is easy to replace, flesh isn't!!
