My family and I fished from Princeton, Half Moon Bay by Pillar Point from 1960. That was before they put the extension on the breakwater in 1965. We finally got a commercial fishing boat in 1969 because we loved to fish and we could pay for the fuel, insurance and anchoring fees, plus boat maintenance. I love Half Moon Bay, I am 69 years young and still remember all of the fun I had there, Moss Landing and Richardson Bay with our commercial fishing boat. I have been sailing since I was seven years old and built my first kayak (First boat) in my eighth grade shop class. Your being in Half Moon Bay brings tears to my eyes, remembering those years past. Great episode, wishes of health and smooth sailing from Northern Israel to all on board SV Basik!

That wind coming up the Sacramento, is what cools us off here in Sacramento, we can get very hot, but that sea breeze cools us off every night and if we didn’t have that, then we would be as hot as Chico and Bakersfield. Some people say how it is nicer weather in the winter than summer in San Francisco. While you were in San Francisco, you should have hooked up with some of the KZbin fishing channels, you were in a great area for lingcod, salmon, and halibut.

Hey Teal, nice review of the after-passage log! When you start doing blue water sailing, you will need a different ongoing log book to capture lat, long, COG, SOG etc, if you don't have one already, On BioTrek, we log position every 4 hours, exactly on the hour - setting a timer to make sure the time point is not missed. We log position more often, as needed, such as noting reef entrances etc. I made our own log book from a hardcover book because the commercial logs do not capture all the data we want. I reserve a section on the bottom of each page for specific notes, of the type you described, such as anchorage, marina VHF channel used etc. We enjoy your channel!

Linh, In my house the policy is YOU caught it YOU clean it. Especially when the hunter uses gift tackle before the giftee can. Fun video. My introduction to the Pillar Point Anchorage was when I was about 18/19 after a night of drinking, my dad unexpectedly woke me up around 4:30/5am with come on let’s go fishing! To say the least I was in no shape nor did I have any desire to go fishing, dad left and I went back to sleeping my ill’s away. Unfortunately dad was not to be dissuaded after a couple more tries I relented. The drive down from San Francisco was not pleasurable especially on the curves of HWY 92. Once we arrived at the harbor we unpacked the car and blew up an old four man raft, we started paddling out the whole time I’m thinking to myself you have got to be kidding you woke me up for a day of this. After paddling for awhile to my relief we pull up to a small Monterey commercial fishing boat, it was my dad’s friends boat that he was allowed to use for keeping an eye on it for the owners who were often out to sea on ships. After some time of the slow rollers of the Pacific I could no longer control my illness and said “sorry I had to much to drink last night” and I hit the rail. Dad laughed we the baited and set the hooks we caught some salmon, mostly ling cod (ling cod was garbage fish back then). I don’t like fish not even touching them but enjoyed fishing with my dad who ended up getting his own Monterey, thanks for evoking the memory. By the way the little Monterey is on display at the S.F. Maritime museum as the oldest Monterey of the fleet, it can be seen on their site.

Teal, that's San Francisco. Calm in the morning but as the (east-bay mostly) hills heat up, the convection currents pull colder air off the ocean. It tends to funnel through the gate and into the bay heading north, east & south.

Happy to hear you got some fishing in Teal. I get disappointed by all these sailing channels that do not make an effort to feed themselves from the waters they are traveling. There are even greens to eat from the waters, but no one takes the time to learn what is under them or around them and let the locals feed them for a swap of greenbacks instead of some sweat equity.

Since we have left Seattle, we have caught 35 Dungeness crab, 12 red Rock crab, 24lbs lingcod, 25lbs halibut, 10lbs steelhead, 20lbs salmon, 32lbs rockfish, razor clams, and now a 10.6lbs cabezon. We love foraging when possible (found gorgeous chantrelles on a hike on Roche Harbor) and supplement with local farmers and fishermen.
@mongomay13 жыл бұрын
@@linhgobenyt That is great, might be something to include in the areas where stopped that others could follow on their travels to do look forward to themselves.
