My uncle was in prison for 14 years. Straits times approached him for an interview on how he turned over a new leaf. My uncle told them, if they want to interview him, he should be allowed to tell the torture he went through in prison. Straits times told him that he is not allowed to tell in the interview of what he went through in prison. Then, he rejected offer of being interviewed. Of course one of the torture he went through was being assaulted by a group of guards in his cell.

Will we be fined or jail if we share this? You know... that guy who shared the pm wife post but kena. Btw, it also might not be zun. He is known activist n organiser. What about a nobody avg citizen who participates in activism or just a vulnerable nobody? I was detained/locked up like a criminal for suicide attempt. They took my glasses(disabling move),cuffed me everywhere except in the cell and never offered any food for the whole evening(4/5pm-11/12pm). Not to mentioned man handling me prior. The cell only have 1 toilet with no tissue and even with the wall, there's a cctv pointing in the direction. Never briefed about rights. It was only until i saw the other person asked for blanket then i did the same. Thks these unprofessional untrained blues for new trauma. The thing i don't agree with ya all is that those barbaric/dehumanising punishments should be available for the likes of rapist & abusers. They are monsters not human. Imo, they have revoked their human right once they've infringed on another's.

Jonovan, championing democracy is noble. Working constructively with incumbent Opposition Political Parties in Singapore would not get you into trouble with the law. However, becoming associated with Joshua Wong of Hong Kong or any other Hong Kong politicians, such as Alvin Yeung, Dennis Kwok, etc is a different matter altogether. You ought not consider them as honourable politicians to deserve your attention. Personally, I look upon them as the most despicable and unworthy group of politicians. Why do I say that? These people call upon and urge American and British politicians to condemn Hong Kong & their motherland, China. Their dishonourable actions influence young Hongkongers to carry and wave flags of USA and UK. This is ABSOLUTELY SHAMEFUL. How many of the HK opposition politicians understand USA enough to believe USA is a saintly democracy? Please read below. ------------- USA was born out of colonial bondage. The founding fathers, led by George Washington, courageously fought against the powerful British colonial masters and eventually achieved freedom from being subjects of the British Colonial Empire. America's founding fathers strived and built an independent nation based on freedom and embraced democracy as the foundation of America's political system. Hence Americans ought to shun colonialism, but unfortunately this was not to be. The truth is, being descendants of European bloodline, the desire to colonise and dominate a weaker nation or society remain inside Americans of European descent. Their desire was materialized when America defeated Spain in 1898 in the Spanish-American war. What happened next? USA gladly and unashamedly acquired several territories which Spain ceded to America. Philippines was among the ceded territories and thereafter evolved the American colonization of Philippines lasting 48 years. Is this not a contradiction of the principles of America's founding fathers. If the government of President Mckinley were true believers of genuine democracy and truly embraced freedom, the people of the Philippines ought to be granted the freedom to form its own government and become an independent nation. This fact demonstrates the political hypocrisy of USA and some of America's European allies. Such mentalities of the political hypocrites of America and Europe cannot bear to see an Asian country like China rising above America and Europe in several aspects. As a result, the political hypocrites in America and Europe strive to find and create reasons to paint China with an exceptionally evil image. Is the behaviour of the political hypocrites of America and Europe not examples of evil in action?

Totally agreed! Just concentrate on cleaning up our own backyard. Associating with any of those HK traitors is going to affect any credibility you possess. Why do we need opinions of any other traitors, when we have enough here!
@mindtwister19844 жыл бұрын
I don't care about politics but HK is better off with China as its hinterland and its relevance as a financial hub. Too bad, Joshua is too dumb to choose to follow the footsteps of Taiwan and cast their lot with the Western powers. It was only right 70 yrs ago, you side with the winners. Not for the next 70 yrs.
@busybeenick4 жыл бұрын
Well, it appears that you condemn HK activists because you're not in their shoes. Try living under CCP rule and let's see you wax lyrical about Chinese motherland. What alternatives do the HK activists have but to seek international pressure from western nations against China? ASEAN states are too weak and afraid to step on China's toes; some states like Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar are already somewhat in China's orbit. Can we not be too quick in branding people as traitors? Blind nationalism is so blasé for this day and age that we live in.

I think this case was a fair sentence. The govt mentioned they only sentenced you because you didn’t get a permit. This event consists of a controversial FOREIGN figure and may make SOME in sg angry. Singapore has to be a stable haven for the nation to thrive especially with regard to foreign powers on Singapore soil. If it was an arrest because of discussing LOCAL political discourse then it would constitute a problem because that event will not evoke a negative reaction from a foreign power.
@t.c90814 жыл бұрын
Well, just because they can jail should they though! Pardon, warning, fine does not apply first before dishing out heavy punishment?
@busybeenick4 жыл бұрын
who are these "SOME in sg" that might get angry? Fears of Chinese regime reprisal are also overstated; we must note that this was not an event organized by the SG government in support for Joshua Wong.

What would one say if I say Democracy fundamentally is flawed because the Majority are Always not the Wiser entity? But I am also not saying that Dictatorship is better
@Callsign-Blade_RunnerSG4 жыл бұрын
@Cosmo John That doesn’t mean that the Minority elites are more the wiser either from your statement. Democracy is a collective approach to keep those in power in Check. Bases on what you have suggested, are you saying that Hitler was a very “wise” man for causing WW2?! Since he’s from a minority who believes himself to be from an “elite race” and so the majority must be DICTATED to follow his TWISTED logic??? There are no perfect systems but Democracy with universal human rights are the way to go to create a more free and fair society for our children and descendants.

you missed the point. given the slightest opportunity whilst in prison the system has an intrinsic value, not just on the training financial incentives, more so that it builds up the individual morale, status quo, work experience, skills and some savings when out of prison. Also, the Institutions would have also a better assessment of the individuals. Jolovan Wham seems to be resenting everything that is being calibrated by PAP government to help society adjust, heal and quickly integrate back to mainstream. Imagine, like in most other nations' incarcerated institutions, there are not much policy, schemes, education, motivational incentives to touch base with the individuals, just leaving them to rot in prison?. When they are released, the vicious cycle consummate them. Who is to help, JOLOVAN WHAM? Oratory can either incite hatred or develop ideas that build successes on people's lives. Clearly, Jolovan Wham would have incited resentment and it could be detrimental if he communicated with the prison mates to reject the state's system that was originally intended to help their well being, education and motivation to do better upon release, with some financial savings to get back to society, work. Do you think it is possible to get a full day's wage whilst in a place that have a stigma, how can it work? What would be his ideal, policy and alternatives? It would be frightening. What is relevant today, try working harder and devise a repertoire of strategies that can help everyone out of this covid 19.

PJ Thum, don't worry the Prison Authorities will dare not abuse people like you, same for Jolovan. You can address all grievances to the Director of Prison inside prison through family visit. Want to complain the higher up the better, you can even complain direct to the Home Affair Ministry through your family member while you are serving jail time.
