For those in the South, I planted up all my annual pots with pansies and violas last October. They both did great until we had unexpected temps drop to 11 degrees. The pansies all tried to come back but didn’t make it. The violas came back with a vengeance and were overflowing their containers with a great show of color through May, when I pulled them voluntarily. Hope we do not have the arctic blast this year, but I will be planting violas!!

It’s a definite yes for violas. Planted them for the last few years instead of pansies. They are absolutely joyous to see, and thrive in anything.

I don’t put my violas in until middle to late October. I have had snow fall on them, and they still looked like new. Great variety of colors.

When I was learning to design pots, I was taught to always back a dark purple plant with something silver or lighter colored so at a distance it dosent look like a black hole in the pot. Do you believe in that recommendation or do you follow another rule?
