I take the opposite philosophy with my APSC travel kit and lean in heavily on primes. The portability advantage of the 6000 series as well as how small APSC lenses are allow you pack a surprising number of primes. I usually take a 9mm Laowa, 16mm Sigma, 35mm Sony and the 18-105 Sony to fill any gaps and have a long zoom option if and when needed. They all fit neatly into the Hadley Small - with enough room left for a tablet/small laptop, battery pack, a full cleaning kit, a few spare batteries and even a rx100 for backup (or another small lens like the OG 16-50 kit lens).

Today i would swap the Sony 11 F1.8 for the Sigma 10-18 F2.8 and the Sigma 18-50 F2.8 for the Tamron 17-70 F2.8. Yes, the sony 11 is sharper and has faster aperture than the Sigma 10-18, but you are covering more wide angle range wich is extremely versatile. Only having 11 mm is a bit restricting. And yes, the Tamron 17-70 is bigger, heavier and little bit more expensive than the Sigma 18-50, but it has more zoom-range on both ends, fills the gap between 50-70mm and has image stabilisation, wich is a big deal, especially on all the Sony APSC cameras without IBIS. Also i feel the Tamron is a bit sharper than the Sigma but that might be only my subjective feeling (tested both). Nothing wrong with 70-350 though, best Tele-Lens on APSC.

Is having 2x zoom more helpful than fast aperture in various conditions?
@schnubbel763 ай бұрын
@@hohoho9939 Depends on the situation and your personal needs. I can only speak for myself and my preferences. I find myself more often in need of a bigger variety of different focal lengths instead of needing faster aperture. So i prefer the versatility of a zoom lens. I have some prime lenses with fast aperture, but i only take them with me when i really know i absolutely need them for special occasions. And for wide angle photos i don't need fast aperture at all because i use them only outdoors in good lighting conditions.

I have an a6500 with the SEL70350. Great lens except for one issue. When I go birding it tends to back focus above 250mm. Unfortunately, you can't just DMF and make the minor correction, even with MF Assist zoom the EVF doesn't have enough resolution to tell if it is back focused and the focus peaking has to large a range with f4.8 to tell if it actually hit focus or not. Maybe with a very bright high res external monitor you could tell... but Sony could just firmware update to include animal eye auto focus, cause this doesn't seem to be an issue for a6600 users. Of course they intend we just buy an a6600. Love the camera and lens otherwise and I have a beanbag to use for really long shots. Thanks Jason, good review, I use a 7artisan manual 25mm f1.8 when I want the wide aperture near 50mm equivalent for the reasons you mentioned!

That’s the exact lineup I’m working towards. I got into Sony recently (leaving Canon ef-m, and Canon in general since their recent RF lens announcement) specifically for these lenses. I have started with the 70-350 lens since I didn’t have a telephoto yet. I also got the 18-105 f4 on a pretty cheap deal to cover my mid-range needs temporarily and to experiment. If my budget had allowed it, I’d have gotten the sigma 18-50 f2.8 instead. I’ll get it next for sure, and then definitely that lovely 11 f1.8. I might still keep the 18-105. I actually quite like filming with the smooth power-zoom, and it’s a very useful wide focal range; but one thing I have noticed annoys me more than anticipated, is its long minimum focusing distance… In any case I’m excited by the wide choice of quality glass at affordable prices in the E-mount system.

Full frame lens work on the crop sensors you just have to times the focal lengths by 1.5. Example a 50mm full frame would be 85mm on an apsc butFull frame lenses give a cleaner look because the sensor on apsc will use the sharpest part of the lens which is the center. I hope this helps and makes sense. Oh and I’ve been using the a6700 for the past 2 days and it doesn’t disappoint. Huge upgrade from my a6400 and same AI in my A7RV

My travel kit is literally just the Sony a6400 with the 18-135 F3.5-5.6 lol, but for street, I only carry the 20mm F2.8 🤪

Would you consider the Tamron 70-300 mm F4.5-6.3 Di III in stead of the Sony SEL 70-350mm f4.5-6.3 G OSS considering the price difference? If not, why?

Wondering the same for ZV-E10!!

Probably not, Tamron should launch an apsc superzoom that keeps up with the modern demands. I rented the 70 300 and found it giving quite soft i.q , much softer than my 17 70 plus the lack of V.C made me keep the S.S way high which was problematic in any non ideal light situations.

A couple of amazon reviews of the Crane M3 gimbal say that the audio recording wires connecting to the gimbal don't work. Have you tried this?

Did you find a solution to use an arca swiss plate with the crane m3?

I made a review after using it for about a month. Great lens! But a lil too big

What do you think of the Tamron 17-70mm f2.8?

Hello, from ur experience, I wanted to ask u about bokeh comparison in sigma 85mm f1.4 lens on both apsc and full frame, which camera will result in more bokeh? I know that full frame is better in bokeh but considering the compression we get from the crop factor on apsc in the 85mm distance will that result in more bokeh than using it in full frame body?

I think for travel the full frame 70-300 from Tamron (at a lot less weight and half the cost of the Sony) makes the most sense for most (APS-C or full-frame shooters). I sold my 70-300 G for the Tamron, and see little if any difference in image quality. I sold it for the weight difference. Of course for those who want stabilization, that's different. I'm using the Tamron now with an FX30 BTW.

The Tamron is 545g, whereas the Sony 70-350 is 625g, so not too big a weight difference, but agree their is a big price difference. The full frame Sony 70-300 is 854g, so a lot heavier and even more expensive, and so not such a great option for APSC.

That could make sense if you want to switch to full frame some day in the future. If not, i dont see the point in sacrificing the extra 50mm of the Sony 70-350. The price dropped a lot since release, today it is 600 Euro in europe on amazons black friday sale while the Tamron is 429 Euros. Wich is of course still cheaper but not as much difference than before and the build and image quality of the Sony lens is amazing. I think it is worth it, if fullframe is not necessary in the future.

Thanks for the review, what would you recommend as a starter lens for the a6700 primarily photos/videos for traveling (landscapes/portrait).

Fun, that is exactly my kit :) very happy with it.

I would take the Sony 15mm 1.4 G, Sony Zeiss Sonnar 55mm 1.8 and the Zeiss Batis APO-Sonnar 135mm 2.8

As an alternate for the Peak design clip, I've been using the Belay from Polarpro for a couple weeks now and it's VERY solid. I might have to frankenstein it onto the Peak strap, though, because theirs is so much nicer than the Polarpro one :x

I've two out of the three. The 70-350 and 15-50. For wide, I've the Tamron 11-20, which is more versatile.

Jason Vong, great video! I hope you can answer my question, we are planing to buy the Sony a6700. We do mostly geocaching videos (as you can check on our channel, with some close ups and sometimes low light environment, as well as landscapes on the b-roll). Do you recommend us the Sony 11mm F1.8 Lens for the a6700? It's ultrawide, so I'm afraid to get that Eye Fish effect, that's something not acceptable for us, as we want to make our videos more cinematic. What's your opinion? Thank you.
