Another very inexpensive source for boxes of roughly this same size is cigar boxes. Some shops give them away, some sell them for a couple of dollars. Depending on the box you get actual wood, or a combination of very thick chipboard and wood. The burnt or stamped lettering can add a cool vibe and they often come with metal hinges and clasps. I've made everything from triptych shrines to mini apothecary cabinets out of them.

As a hobbyist woodworker who almost never uses paint or even wood stain (I like the way most woods look on their own), do what you like; don't let others bully you. Woodworkers have a tendency to gatekeep and be bit snobby. Ultimately the best tool for the job is the one you have which can do the job safely, accurately, and meet the needs of the design. Whether it is watered down paint, stain, or Rubio Monocoat, use what you like. Okay, I'll get off my soapbox now. Good job by the way, I might copy your design for myself.

Another source for similar material to the box lid is wooden "canvases". Buy two, cut one in half slap on some hinges and a latch.

Hey as a wood worker just want to say. I don’t know if you finished the screen with shellac and polyurethane but if you didn’t would be well worth the $20 something dollars the shellac will make the grain and figure pop and the clear ploy will protect against moisture. You did a good job 👍 love the color of that stain too!

@@ConjuredCraft Given how hard it can be to write at that angle, (really hurt my wrist one night, had trouble typing for a couple of days) I'd recommend some magnetic tape. A couple of stripes spaced apart for something flashcard size, and some of that aforementioned contact-adhesive whiteboard surface for reusability, *chef's kiss*. Depending on the quality of the tape, you might be able to get away with bull clips, or you might need some stronger magnets from Amazon.

Okay.... I have to compliment you on the video (itself)!!! This is well presented! A quick intro with a joke, and then, right into what you're doing.- BRAVO!!! So many channels, after a long intro of B-roll and their logo, then do a 2-5 minute explanation (and even longer) of what they're going to do in the video, and then, finally after 5-10 minutes of nonsense, repeat it again, while they're doing whatever they're crafting, OR... have obnoxious music blaring over the entire footage... WHY?! NO!- I don't want to flip back and forth with the mute button, but I will hit the "next video" button! And THANK YOU for no "rage bait"!!! - SUBSCRIBED and that's saying something from me! Most of the YT crafting and D&D material channels are a "click by provocation committee" nonsense. Well done!!! And OBTW... Nice DM screen craft!!!

Why does it have to be a wall. Screens have other uses. I roll in the open but use the screen on the side for quick reference material. If a GM screen breaks the connection with your players it was a pretty tenuous connection to begin with.
