Derek, really appreciate when you share the rums used at Smuggler's Cove. Monymusk Gold is a surprising call; my hunch is the accountants told the GM to lower the Cat 3 rum cost. Even Martin Cate has to live within a budget.

Monymusk Gold can retail up to $30 and I dont have any direct knowledge but I get my Moneymusk at an extreme discount. Assume others in the area do as well. Regardless, considering how much cocktails costs nowadays Smuggler’s Cove is a bargain.

I only used 1/4 oz of maple syrup on the second one and it seemed a little better balanced. Delicious drink.

How did you arrive at flash blending as opposed to whip-shaking with pebble or vigorously with a few kold draft cubes? Not critiquing, simply curious as to your reasoning. Cheers!

Flash blending is called for in the Smuggler’s Cove recipe. There doesn’t seem to be any standard practice for shake vs flash blend in the historic grog recipes. But for me any excuse to use nugget ice and flash blend and I’ll take it.

A little less maple syrup, lime juice only instead of lime + grapefruit, and then the most flavorful rums you have.
