If this was a good show, this would be a turning point for Velma. Velma being knocked down would force her to rethink her stance and maybe consider another point of view. Perhaps being humbled would cause Velma to grow as a character. If this was a good show, but it's not.

from what i remember from watching the show i think its kinda supposed to be, to at least some extent. the problem is the writers are just very clearly asleep at the wheel. on top of all of its other many problems and bad writing decisions, Velma is also completely thematically incoherent.

I watched, it kinda was..Velma was willing to let the girls be who they wanted to be while also staying true to herself. So because some people are butthurt because they aren't found attractive, they can now tell everyone else what they should wear and how they should act? Also the thing about societal vacuum, sorry, but we are not a robots and we can do think for ourselves, for example is someone forcing you to wear expensive clothes? No, many people wear them, but no one will opress you if you want to wear a plain T-shirt, also because many people like certain fashion choice and many people take inspiration from them suddenly we can't make our own decisions, because we are forced to wear them, sorry, if you are in a minority that don't like new fashion simply wear what clothes you like and don't get pissed that most people like certain fashion, while you hate it.

It's what happens when a writer is so immersed in an echo chamber of their political views, that they assume everybody holds the same mindset as them or that they just have to show a blatant example of what they see as "wrong" to convince their audience, but as a result, they forget to make the characters likable or at least, relatable. The Velma show tried to course correct through meta humor, but failed to realize that pointing out "oh wow, Velma's a hypocritical, self-pitying, racist asshat" won't matter if the character's only redeeming trait is being the protagonist, not to mention not showing said character genuinely receiving lasting consequences for their actions and trying to change.

@@SkylarThompson-mu1qs I don't mean it that way. PickMes and Sweet girls are entirely different people. PickMes are like incels, they have their nice girl/guy facade but they obviously don't because they ironically act the opposite. They are the opposite of nice girls. Incels would say they are wife materials when PickMes barely took a bath, don't know how to cook and are opposite of lady-like behavior but due to isolation, they are desperate for men's attention no matter what the cost. Back then, PickMes were referred to as NiceGirls™ by men because they pointed out how creepy and aggressive they can get after rejection. Once you reject them, they go straight to man-hating behavior and suddenly they're on women's side as if they didn't just degrade their same gender community. That's the cycle. Im not interested in defending velma but almost everyone here has the media literacy skills of a rock. "You know its bad writing when the antagonists come off as the protagonists." No. You know its bad writing when the antagonists come off as the protagonists, and instead of the writers using a confrontation like this as fuel to develop their protagonist, the protagonist stays the same for unclear reasons. I'm not sure what happens after this scene, i never watched it, but this scene itself is perfect if the writers used it in the right way. Bad writing isnt when a protagonist encounters a viewpoint that challenges their own ideology, bad writing is when the protagonist encounters this viewpoint and either a). Changes their own mind too fast to be realistic, b). Doesn't change their mind at all, but sees no consequences for their stubborness, or c). Changes their mind in due time, but also sees no consequences for the bs they put others through. Thats bad writing. This scene on its own isnt.

The funniest thing to me about this Velma show is that the show is absolute rubbish, but the people hating on it are just as dumb if not dumber than the people who made it. The criticisms I see of it in the comment section are embarrassingly bad. "when the show is so bad that the audience agrees with the bully more than the main character" - Dude we are SUPPOSED to agree with the mean girl in this scene, the whole episode was about showing Velma that her condescending and strict world view is wrong and just as bad as the things she is fighting against. The show has a million flaws, but one flaw it doesn't have is a marry sue protagonist. They clearly show that velma is a flawed character that needs to grow up "I cant believe they made a show with a rude and condescending protagonist and expected it to be good" - Literally tons of shows have protags that are terrible or annoying people and the shows still end up being amazing. Breaking bad, Bojack Horseman, South park, Dan vs. I can keep going. The issue with this show isnt that Velma starts off as a flawed and annoying person, its that they didnt execute her character and growth correctly. Also the show just isnt funny, and the other characters are not interesting in the least. Media literacy skiIIs are so rare nowadays. Im losing braincells reading these comments

Maybe even have Shaggy be framed for the murder because he was the last person seen with the victim who turned out to be his girlfriend all along. I would have even put Scooby in there, like, perhaps Shaggy's girlfriend was the daughter of a scientist who was working on a way to make animals communicate with humans in order to make humanity learn to coexist with their fellow lifeforms on Earth or something and she was trusting Shaggy to look after Scooby after her father disappears or something

I actually really like this scene because it’s the only scene in the entire show that feels like the point is worth talking about and the hypocrisy in regard to the issue is appropriate. And the show actively called out Velma for said hypocrisy and that yes, there has been a power structure in regard to men in history limiting women, but at the same time, Velma is also limiting these women and as Olive says, has a view on womanhood that is more restrictive than theirs which is just as bad. It’s the one thing the show talks about that actually is not bad. Unfortunately it’s sadly the only thing it does well.
