I got a Skygoat after you posted the first discount I think. And *then* they released the full zipper! AAAAHHH! 😂 I love my SkyGoat. I would wear it every day for everything, but I might get some weird looks 😉 I really want the full zip one, I just don't have the dollars for it right now. While hiking the Colorado Trail last year I was in Leadville and visited Melanzana. I asked if they had any appointment cancellations that I could take and they said sure, come on in. (It’s a small production area so the limited product availability may simply be because of their size.) I love my Mellie. Your Skygoat looks great too! I’m glad you’re happy with it, It’s nice to have options.

Looks like a company worth looking at. I’m a hoodie junkie as well. I thought the Melly process wasn’t worth it so looked at other companies. I went with a hoodie from Fayettechill and liked so much I bought two. I also picked up a Peloton hoodie from Kuiu after watching Jupiter Hikes and Dan from Backpacking Adventures.

@@hikingdancer I just came back from a 3 mile walk. It is 21F. Wind was 20 mph. I wore on my core just a Smartwool Smart Loft jacket, that I received as a birthday gift, as my base layer(nothing under that) and the Buffalo Gear Windshirt over the Smartwool jacket. Surprisingly warm. I have been very satisfied using Buffalo Gear that requires no layering. But, I am always open to new technical hiking gear. Thanks. Best wishes.

Great review and honest disclosure. Admirable Sky Goat is providing a discount + $2 into savings for your testimonial. Wavering between Sky Goat and hoodie from Lightheart Gear. Both similar with a few tweeks that are nice on Lightheart. ie turtle neck part of hood system. Similar in price. North Carolina based/made company. I lean toward Sky Goat due to color and simplicity. These are the two best I have found in my research as to cost, weight, material etc. Sadly, often you are paying for a brand name or justified mark up needed by a retailer. With all my gear, I lean toward "cottage" companies and this has been successful in my gear choices.

I have both the lightheart is a bit warmer , and heavier than the skygoat but I hate the huge ridiculous looking cuffs on the sleeves of the lightheart. The skygoat has a better fit as well.

A follow up: I contacted Sky Goat on sizing since I am a "tweener" XL or 2XL. Both in tall version. I received a prompt reply and their offer.......order both. Love my Sky Goat. Wear it all the time hiking, running errands. Light weight. Comfortable. Great review. Agree totally on the "competition" out there in Colorado....weird way of marketing their elite product. How do you only sell to people who stand in line for their appointment at their store. Comment from them was "protecting" their people. Yeah, right. Not buying that. Sky Goat is the way to go for way less $$ and not having to fly to CO to buy a microfleece.

I also backpacked the CT last year and made it to Leadville and I stopped in there without buying anything. But I get it, they can only make so many. 2:55. Skygoat does not make its products in Colorado, in spite of what this video says. They started that way, but for the past few years, the manufacturing has been in Taiwan. It's a Colorado-based company with good products and excellent customer support, but manufacturing was moved out of the US.

Totally agree about the pockets. The only reason I ever buy a 1/2 or 1/4 zip fleece over a full zip is for a kangaroo pocket. I'll keep an eye out on their website and if they make that option, I'll definitely be a customer!

I got a hoodie for my & myself with that promo code when you first announced it. We love them so much that we bought the full zip hoodies early this year (paid full price because I didn’t realize the promo code was ongoing). My wife added thumb holes to ours. I think I prefer the full zip hoodie overall because of the fit of the hood. Will be ordering new ones for Christmas presents to ourselves from our hiking buddies Meanderthal & BAWA (the dogs). Another good video / gear review. I always enjoy your content. I have the Appalachian gear alpaca hoodie it’s a nice hoodie (cons) but I don’t like the monk style hood and no pockets. I also have the fayettechill hoodie it has everything nice fitting hood kangaroo pocket and thumb holes. (Cons)It’s a little heavy and sometimes to warm for hiking. I’m trying out an Senchi design alpha 90 it’s super lite no thumb hole no pockets.

I see they advise ordering a size up if you’re on cusp of sizing. Do they run a tad small or tight over base layer! I need a loose 2x so wondering if it would fit as most 2x do but some are tight & then I could order a men’s but not sure if sleeve length could easily be taken up by local alterations

See, I don't even want a Melanzana. They would have to pay me in the 4 digits and I would transfer their logo to something better suited. Last year the brand of prestige for real long distance hikers was "Senchi Designs" - a company who uses Direct Alpha material. Also from Polartec, it is half as heavy as a standard fleece but way more breathable. Of course I don't even want Senchi since this was also the Rolex of fleeces. They would also have to pay me in the 4 digits. There are a ton of other companies who do the same but who don't have such a Koenigsegg factor.

There is a reason Melanzana hoodies cost more and are hard to get - just because you are unwilling to take the steps to acquire one doesn’t say anything about the quality of Melanzana or the motives of those who wear them. Generally, You get what you pay for.
