For you haters out there, there are plenty of other 593 engine runs without music.
I like it, if you don't like it, get a 593 and make your own videos so I can moan about your videos.
Then it will be fair game.
Concorde Olympus 593-610
7th March 2020, Multiple Runs ! :)
Let's start off by saying this is not a Jet Truck, the engines weight is considerable and is hard to move around. The truck allows me to move the engine about at home where I usually work on it. Secondly, due to the noise I cant run it at home, so the truck allows me to go places where noise isn't so much of an issue. Originally the 593 was mounted on a basic truck and looked rather plain, once I got to the point where the engine could be run, I felt that the 593 needed a nicer looking truck to help do justice to this feat of engineering, hence the more modern truck with custom body panels. I do appreciate why some might think it's a dragster, however I would never be able to stop it once it got moving, so to clarify, it's basically a static display transport unit.
In the video the 593 is started by a smaller donkey engine (GTCP85), an APU from a commercial airliner, this engine produces compressed air and powers the 593's pneumatic starter motor. Once the 593 has reached self sustain speeds of 25% RPM, the air starter is de-energised and then the 593's RPM is taken to 35% (debowing speed), the APU is then shut down and is no longer required. Around a minute of debowing, the RPM is taken up to 70% briefly and back down to 65% which is the engines idle setting. Once run for about another minute or so, we are out of fuel supplied from the tank positioned just in front of the engine, that's 120 litres of JetA1. The green rope is connected to an emergency valve, so should the engine unexpectedly go to full power and move the truck forward, this will kill the fuel to the HP injectors and thus shut the engine down.

Awesome!!! reduced to be stationary on the back of this truck, 4 of this engines used to work together and carried that one aircraft through the skies. I'm just marveled thinking of that aircraft traveling at twice the speed of sound close to the edge of space and thinking about the old saying: all things past were better. In reality I know newer things or technology are always better but we're well into 2022 and still don't have another commercial SST yet. Oh my word, the irony...!

Thanks to KZbin recommendations ^^ I am discovering this video... and there are so much tears in my eyes while I am writing this comment... The heart of Concorde is beating again... This incredible sound I have heard for more than 25 years over my head daily (I am in France, and was living since I was a child in the west of Paris in the axis of the "26" runway of CDG...) is still in my memory. Would like so much to come, and see and hear it roaring ^^ Thanks... thanks a lot !

This is spectacular, I have been following jetpower's journey to restore this example to running condition since several years ago, and to see an Olympus 593 truly roar to life for the first time in over 16 years makes me feel so happy. Kudos to you and your team and maybe some time you could find yourself some exhaust nozzles so you can run it higher than a little past idle :) Maybe you could film the engine from a little distance away some time to get the true howling screech of the Olympus 593 even at idle? It can be hard to differentiate the 593 from the APU noise sometimes.

We did try to extend the air start hose on the day, for a more pure 593 sound, but as it turned out an adapter would have been needed to join the two which I didn't have. A more powerful run may be on the cards, but this comes with a larger fuel bill and as I pay for everything out of my own pocket, so I do have to be careful on the spending.

It's great to see a 593 running, instead of just looking at them (and Concorde Alpha Fox') down the road at Aerospace Bristol. Seeing that back end reminds me of the time I had to don white disposable overalls and crawl up the jetpipe of an installed 593 at Heathrow to look at the EGT 'spider'. As one of the dwindling number of Fleet Engines team members at Bristol who kept 593s turning and burning, is there any chance of an invitation for us to see the engine running, once Covid-19 is well out of the way?
