Had this engine in my old Qashqai when at just shy of 400,000 miles, and on Xmas eve last year, an injector went as myself and the kids were on the way over to see their nana. Car was hesitating to accelerate and then the engine management light came on and the car went into limp mode. Managed to nurse it home and then I spent my Xmas eve taking out the injector, stripping it down and leaving the parts to soak in wynns dpf cleaning fluid over Xmas. Reassembled the injector on Boxing Day and put it back in the car and it fired up and problem solved. When the motor factors opened in the new year, I put in a new fuel filter as I suspected dirty fuel. Car ran fine up to the point I sold it last March with over 400k on the clock. It’s a great engine but I found a common fault was with a plastic turbo intake pipe that would snap in half roughly every two years.

Baz you are a technician ,I once owned a Ford focus 1.6 Tdci it started chuffing & the black death on 2 of the injectors, 1 mechanic said sorry it won't budge . So I cleaned of as much black carbon as possible a different mechanic Pete soaked the injector in a solution to break down the carbon , he told me he nearly lifted the car of the ground before it finally popped out , all the rest came out easy .

The metal pipe running north to south to the intercooler is usually only held on with a spring clip (right at the back of the engine ) - just pull it with a hooked screwdriver (not too hard or it will disappear down the back of the engine bay) and there is probably 1 10 mil to remove and you should be able to move it enough to get that stupid plastic cover off. To free the injector there is usually a flat you can put a 13 mm spanner on to rotate the injector - moves them even when they are pretty stuck. Them injector hole cleaning kits are great but make sure they are decent ones with no loose wire. If the wires come loose they will probably fall into the cylinder and sods law get stuck under the valve as soon as you start the engine !

Had several Renaults, so had my mum with the 1.5 dci, we never had problems with them, they're good engines for what they are! I highly rate them! My mums just upgraded her 1.5 dci 17 plate Renault Scenic to a 20 plate 1.7 dci Scenic, just hope the 1.7 is reliable as the 1.5
@AntonioToma-q2j7 күн бұрын
Interesting point you make re the 1.5dCi engine when installed in a Renault: over the past decade or so I've owned a Mégane Sport tourer and Scenic X-MOD, both with the 105ps version of that engine, covered over 70,000miles in both and never had a single issue with the injectors. In contrast, a then new in 2019, Nissan NV200 campervan we had with the 110ps version of that same engine, broke down on three separate occasions due to injector failure. First occasion it had to be trailered back home from Wales by the RAC. Second occasion, months later, locally, it went in to Limp-home mode but I was close enough to the local Nissan dealer for me to drive it there...slowly. Third occasion, and this is the iconic one, I'd gone to collect it after the above mentioned 'breakdown' . The service manager had gone into the workshop to drive the NV200 around to the front forecourt, but was gone for a good ten minutes or so. He then very sheepishly reappeared without the vehicle to tell me a third injector had just failed!!! We sold the NV200 shortly after that having only covered 17,000miles and whilst it was still in warranty as we'd lost faith in it!

One of the more aggravating things about these engines, since they are always fitted backwards in whatever car they're in (including the Scenic) is you can't check the damn turbo since it's at the back of the engine when you're buying one.
