Although I admire the talent of this competitive group, perhaps it is time to swing the pendulum back to a more partnered form in the Latin Division. A hybrid form of separation and occasionally connecting has evolved over the past couple of decades. The negative space between the couples is becoming a disconnect to the beauty of Ballroom dancing.

@@YumaNYT1 You are missing my point. The negative space is the disconnect to the beauty of partnered dancing not the focus. Although there is a lovely focus and inward projection between the couples, I still feel there is a disconnect with the negative space, making the dances look more like a theatrical performing arts dance as oppose to true ballroom dancing. Eventually, it will go full circle and return to more innovative partnering.

Amateur U-21 Latin differs from Ama Adult Latin...this Blackpool competition is the former one...and it is well known that WDC sort of pursues an elegance/beauty of the movements while WDSF rather encourages a dynamism/vitality of the movements...this is said to be the same tendency in the Standard dance...! Well, one day these two tendencies may converge...!

@Babbycatt the whole field needs a major update. it won't last as it is. it's already almost completely antiquated in the world that increasingly celebrates same-sex relationships, but I see no signs of recognition of this reality from the dance community. if the LA field wants to remain relevant and alive in a global society, it needs to articulate a new vision of the man-woman relationship and a new mode of representation. If not, I'll give our beloved discipline a couple more years before it dies or becomes a niche thing for older people stuck in the past before it takes its last breath. We are almost there already
