@@shadowdance4666 We like human stories so its more relatable if the main character in the story is a dumbass. Realistically though if such a drug existed and turned you into a super genius you wouldnt do 90% of the stupid things he did in the movie. You'd be playing stock market, finessing banks/investors, have a network of super rich/influential people and have a billion net worth within i'd guess 3 months.

Yes but they're exciting. The pill just enhances memory, pattern recognition and ability to make connections and synthesis of information. Finding the things you listed dumb is about your philosophy. He became a hedonist. When you realize life is meaningless and how arbitrary social constructions are you can make whatever narratives about life you want. As the other comment said, he didn't become wise, he just became able to form connections and acces areas of his mind not previously possible.

My favorite silliness of this movie is at the beginning, he looks like a slob and totally admits it... once he takes the limitless drug more and more, I guess he starts to take better care of his hair and shaves his facial hair... it's hilarious to me that by using more of his brain capacity, it gave him the intelligence to start taking care of himself better... it's actually a pretty dumb concept the more I think about it actually😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

The loan scene doesn't make sense. If he was quintupling his money daily he would have had $100k in a week and wouldn't need loan shark.
@JustSomeGuyLV
@JustSomeGuyLV 7 ай бұрын
kinda yes kinda no - if multiplying money by factor X is 100% guaranteed, than having increased funds right at the start makes sense if you want to achieve x amount of millions $ asap, rather than waiting 3 extra days to achieve that goal (if waiting 3 extra days seems unnecessary and even wasteful to a bright and even over-competent mind).
@repsaknivek
@repsaknivek 7 ай бұрын
@@JustSomeGuyLV That's not why this scene doesn't make sense. It's the math. He said to the loan shark, "I quintupled my money four days in a row," and presented his data to prove it. But if that was true then borrowing $100,000 would have been ridiculous because he would already have made millions of dollars. Remember? He came back from the trip, and took his $800, started trading and made $2,000 the first day (so now he had a total of $2,800). He said on the second day he made $7,500 (so he then had a total of $10,300). He did not quintuple his money on either the first or second day, so the earliest he could have done it would have been on days three through six of trading. That would mean on day three, he turned the $10,300 into $51,500. Then on trading days four, five, and six, quintupling them each day would have increased his money to: $257,500, then $1,287,500, then $6,437,500. So it would be silly to ask the loan shark for $100,000. (And if he quintupled his money just three more times he would have more than $800 million.)
@scottfree6479
@scottfree6479 7 ай бұрын
@@JustSomeGuyLV Not really. If you can double your money every day then it would take you less than 45 days to become the richest man in world history. That's assuming you start with 1 cent. Sure, you can knock some time off with higher starting capital but there's no reason to risk shady black market money lenders to save a couple weeks.
@rcb3921
@rcb3921 7 ай бұрын
That's not how market trading works. There mere act of making a trade softens the benefit of subsequent trades because you are tipping the supply and demand all on your own. So there is a limited 'capacity' in any signal to buy or sell, even if you are the only participant in that movement (and you won't be). When your initial capital is small, you really don't shift the market with your presence, and you can do crazy things like doubling your money in short order. But it doesn't take long for diminishing returns to catch up to you, and soon you just can't earn those kinds of percentages.
@longtyler48
@longtyler48 7 ай бұрын
I agree behind the theory of the mathematical implications of doubling your money every day, but this is when I think NZT more as a drug whereas he was saying he had to move forward. While he could’ve easily accomplished it without excepting the loan the desire to move forward as quickly as possible pushed him to do something that was more irrational

I like how this whole movie is the perfect allegory for having manic-depressive disorder. Popping those pills allows him to live every power-fantasy felt while experiencing a manic episode, but withdrawal sends him spiraling into a state worse than his regular state. The reason why he can't use his super-intelligence to manufacture a permanent solution is because mania is inherently unstable, unrealistic and short-lived.

I always thought the loan shark was dumb. But he had grown so confident to the point or arrogance that he was simply certain. The only silliness was that he did not pay him off immediately. That was intentionally plot driven. But maybe that makes sense too. He was naïve and drunk with this knowledge he thought he was above the guy. Until they came for him and he learned to never under estimate anyone again. No matter how smart you are, you are still human.

The target audience of this film is men between 13 - 30 years old. Bradley becomes super rich in finance, he publishes a book, random women love him, and then he becomes a famous politician. Nothing about starting and building a family, making the world a better place, solving other's problems, etc. Someone else commented that the TV series was more appealing to the masses because the protagonist goes on NZT and then actually tries to catch bad guys and help people (The great John Doe series on FOX used that premise as well).

Apparently NO ONE who can do math worked on this movie, nor did they check for MASSIVE plot holes: "Armed with Vern's last $800 I made $2,000 in a day. The next day $7,500." "I quintupled my money 4 days in a row." Which one is it? It doesn't really matter because he's making 250% to 500% daily. Assuming 250% per day (including not trading on weekends) with a starting amount of $800... He'd have $78 K within a week, $7.6 M within 2 weeks, $745 M within 3 weeks, and $72 B within 4 weeks (1 month). What do you mean "it wasn't fast enough"...
