This is brilliant! I've finally had a chance to experiment louder and I feel like I've learned a new way to mix with the lower placement, this is fantastic! I never imagined that I can lean on the lower resonance more without strain, but with more projection. I also find that it made me open my mouth wider and that added stability to my transition. Aaaaand it even helped me find a consistent way to get into the fry scream (I think) which just feels like a different way of going into the mix now 🤯This is an amazing gateway, thank you so much, Chris!

Awesome video Chris! I think the Bruno Mars technique is probably the most useful to learn all around. It ensures that your tone will sound pleasant to listen to throughout your range. It’s also easy to balance your voice and hit higher notes using that technique. The other tone is very useful for adding variation and things like grit which makes you sound more interesting.

Distorted high pitch singing is the one that I can't quite nail yet, otherwise I can sing very high and this video explained very well why. So now I guess I will be practicing the Sam Carter type screaming over Burn the Witch lol.

Please make a video reviewing vocals of Landon Tewers from The Plot In You, I haven't found a single video about it, and he's an extraordinary singer! You can take their banger "Feel Nothing" as an example, or something more new and wild like "Forgotten" or "Don't Look Away". Also their "Swan Song" album is reeeally good. For me, his semi-distorted vocals is the most interesting one, like "So sick of backing down that I might just spill it all..." lines in "Feel Nothing" song. Thank you a lot!

I have a best friend who sings many times at my home and we both have much fun with it and your videos. but the one question is that her teacher says she doesn't have a mixed voice which I don't believe. She is a soprano. But the teacher says that's not bad that she doesn't have a mixed voice. But she can belt very high. Aretha franklin respect is a song she can sing. And also almost the higher notes of Dimash's sos. What's happeining? btw She doesn't train her vocal break that much. I think... I ask this to help her.
@chrisliepe2 ай бұрын
It would be completely fair to say that someone who has not trained "mixed coordinations" does not have a mixed voice. Mix isn't a register in and of itself, rather... it is a set of trained muscle coordinations that allow you to blend or mix your head voice and your chest voice! So what she is saying is accurate for her, but she could go down the road of training those muscle memory positions into her voice and then she would have a mixed voice. Hope this helps!
@megarockfreak2 ай бұрын
@@chrisliepe Thanks for the fast response. I'll look into that and don't try to push anything. It looks like she still has to discover the advantages of the mixed voice. Although her high belted notes are absurdly relaxed in her full chest voice, I'm sure with the expension of her mixed voice she will have more colour in her voice. And It will even sound more agile in the future and more freeing.

Yo, Chris! I've been following your channel and advice for just over three years now, and I have one major concern that ALWAYS happens with my voice. I have a problem with mucous in my airways. It manifests even worse when I'm doing cardio at the gym, but when singing from low to high, I can feel where it is constructing my ability to sound and feel "open". Hot water and a hot room work the best, and anything allergy medicine related is spotty. Any advice on this?

I seem to keep falling down vocally. I'll take singing super serious and eat and drink accordingly, but when I get good and comfortable, there's this arrogance that comes over me that makes me feel unstoppable. I'm not sure if because of the arrogance I push too hard. Maybe I slip out of technique without even realizing it until it's too late. So with all that said, how can I overcome this vocal arrogance and do you struggle with it too?

Given how Thom Yorke totally lost his voice by his mid thirties, we probably shouldn't imitate his technique.
@chrisliepe2 ай бұрын
There are lots of reasons people lose their voices. And plenty of other vocalists who utilize the bright brash sound to get into a mix voice. Bruno also uses this technique from time to time. See his most recent release, die with a smile, his big high sigh going into the instrumental.
