Thank you so much for this! I've been trying to combine 3-4 actives (salicylic acid, lactic acid, niacinamide, retinol) and I've been asking everyone on the internet what the proper layering would be to avoid ruining my skin and no one has been able to help. With this video I learned that I CANNOT AT ALL use all of those actives in the same routine. Thank you for all of your help!

I get the best results combing retinol and Lactic acid…I’m in my mid 40’s with zero lines. Different skin types get different results, it’s not for everyone. I’m also an esthetician of 24 years and I’ve been my own Guinea pig, lots of trial an error. Skin care today has evolved and nothing compared to how it was when I first graduated. You can use this treatment ongoing (the whole year) if you need it. Generally, the frequency needs to be adjusted accordingly to your skin tolerance or skin needs. Between 5-8 drops should be enough for your entire face and neck; just test it and do not overdo it. You can use Vitamin C in the same routine if your skin is not sensitive and if you have a Vitamin C derivative. However, if you have a Vitamin C serum with pure Ascorbic Acid, I recommend not using it.

Hey Melissa ! Thank you for such informative video once again . I want to ask you about my skin issue. I moved from a topical country to Canada ,Since I landed here my skin starting breaking out. Although break out is being controlled with switching to actually non-acne prone skin cleanser and ordinary zinc solution on and off,but the marks are not fading away its been 4 months now. Any recommendation ? I have incorporated ordinary retinol / LACTIC acid in skin care as well. I did not find good vitamin c earlier so for almost 6 months I did not use one but started now.

Hey! :) Have a look at Paula's Choice Vitamin C Booster, or Dear Klairs Vitamin C Drop or Revolutions Vitamin C serum. Those all use Ascorbic Acid (pure Vitamin C) and are all excellent Vitamin C serums which can help to even out your skin tone. However, when using a Vitamin C serum with Ascorbic Acid, please do not use them in the same routine when using The Ordinary Niacinamide. Keep them separate! :)

I just purchased gow receipe bha pha pore tight toner. Can i use lactic acid on the rest on my face and on my KP and bha/pha just on my nose? Also, can these go with TO resveratrol?
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Жыл бұрын
Well, honestly, for blackheads, it is best to extract them using a tool or visit an esthetician who can do it for you. You may need to redo the extraction once they come back. However, in the meantime, you could use certain products. The best option would be to use a product containing Salicylic Acid. Yes, you can use these products individually on different areas of your face. They can also work well when combined with resveratrol and ferulic acid.

@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDietits quite the list. I have been struggling since early 20s. Acne. Was on Roccitain..worked a bit but was left very sensitive and irritated after it and thread veins. I was sensitive to foods and mineral oils/petroleum in products but took a while for me to realise and it was in nearly everything. So still 20 year later. Combination oily T zone, spot prone and some congestion Redness,,texture/closed bumps esp chin and fine lines mostly around the eyes I would like to improve.I didn't really wear sunscreen except very hot as it at least temporarily helped blend my skin tone to all same colour and gave some confidence. So at the mo I'm using salicylic acid cleaner or Elave cream cleanser. Serums are. Either buffet and niacinamide or salicylic and niacinamide. Will get more azelaic and order some Retinal. At the moment ordinary moisturising factors (will get some rosehipseed oil)and an aloe vera suncream This routine is just a couple of months old. It's hard to know which concern to target. I would try lazer for threadveins again if everything else is improving, I was burnt from it before in the early days of it. I then use a Anti redness formula factor 50 most days to blend skin tone. So I guess my question is around a toner and Lactic acid in a complicated (for me ) routine. Phew! Hope that isn't too much and set out clear enough ❤

@@debee1544 Ok. So, were you using Salicylic Acid for your acne/closed comedones? I'm not sure if using an AHA (Glycolic Acid or Lactic Acid) is the best option if you already have redness-prone skin. Mandelic Acid may be different. However, usually Salicylic Acid and/or Azelaic Acid should help to reduce it. Still, I think that it's best to get them treated by laser or so if your veins are creating redness and not sensitive skin or rosacea. Otherwise, look into Centella or Oat-infused skincare products. Have you ever drier Differin Gel (Adapalene) and/or Benzoyl Peroxide for your acne?

AM Routine Cleanser = CeraVe SA Serums = TO alpha arbutin 2%, TO niacinamide 10% + zinc 2% Moisturizer = CeraVe moisturizing cream Sunscreen = 3W clinic SPF 50 PM Routine 1 Cleanser = CeraVe foaming facial cleanser Serum = TO lactic acid 5% +HA and TO alpha arbutin 2% +HA (Optional CeraVe moisturizing cream) Try it first without. Sometimes Their suspension and moisturizer do not work well together. And the suspension is generally the last step, but try both ways. Suspension = TO Azelaic acid suspension 10% PM Routine 2 Cleanser = CeraVe foaming facial cleanser Retinol = Paula's Choice 0,3% Retinol + 2% Bakuchiol or their clinical 1% retinol treatment (be careful it is very potent!) Moisturizer =CeraVe moisturizing cream Some people in the skincare community said that for them, Azelaic Acid 20% or tretinoin and hydroquinone worked best. Still, these treatments are only available in the pharmacy or from a doctor as a prescription. So if the routine above does not show improvements after 2-3 months, I suggest asking your local doctor or in your pharmacy for more advice.

You can use Hyaluronic Acid on dry skin. There is a misconception that patting the skin dry immediately means that your skin is dry when in fact, it still remains damp for at least a few minutes. So, wash your face - pat the skin dry, apply Lactic Acid, and then use Hyaluronic Acid.

Or replace Lactic Acid with the LRP serum. This depends on what your skin can tolerate. Do you experience any irritation? If not, you may need to increase the frequency to every other day to see results. Since I think using it only twice a week is not enough. PM (every other day): Cleanse your face thoroughly with a mild cleanser and pat dry. Wait for at least 5-10 minutes until your skin is dry. Apply a pea-sized amount of tretinoin cream or gel to your fingertips and spread a thin layer evenly over your face, avoiding the eye area, lips, and nostrils. Wait 10-15 minutes before applying moisturizer Also use sunscreen daily during the day as tretinoin can increase the skin's sensitivity to the sun. Am: Cereve cleanser /ceraphyl Sunscreen (ideally a mineral SPF, but you need to look for a formulation that suits your skin, I like COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream and NIOD Survival 30) You generally do not need to use the other products you have. The tretinoin when used correctly should show results after a few months.

Based on my comment section, people tend to use it just because they saw it on TikTok, Instagram, etc. but they do not really have skin concerns, but just want to look like the filtered person showing it. But again if that is working for you, just do it. If you experience irritation, this may be the issue ;) This is only a guide and should help you to reduce the irritation.

Hey :) No, I recommend diluting it with your moisturiser instead :)

Hello, is it also not okay to use the lactic acid 5% with sunscreen with vitamin c in it?
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet3 жыл бұрын
That's okay :) Since I assume that your sunscreen does not have a high % of Vitamin C ;)

@@yarosh1821 The main issue with acid and vitamin c is that vitamin c is better absorbed at a low pH. But also, this increases the change of irritation. If you increase the % it can lead to more irritation. So, therefore, it is not recommended to do this. But with your sunscreen, it won't matter. But also you should use your Lactic Acid ideally in the evening. And in the evening you do not need sunscreen since there is no sun. 🙂

Thank you so much for this!!! I've been using Lactic acid in the evening, but have been wondering if Amino acid is safe to use in the morning? I do the peeling solution once a week, so on the day I do this, I shouldn't use the lactic acid......am I ok to use the lactic acid the very next day?
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can use Amino Acids; they do not exfoliate the skin but hydrate it and helps it to heal. Technically you can use it the day after the peeling solution, but how often you use an AHA (Lactic Acid, Glycolic Acid) product will depend on your personal tolerance for these products.
