I started using this vitamin C powder in June. I mix it with the hyaluronic acid serum and apply it every morning. Before using it I took a picture of myself, and at the beginning of August I took another one under the same light to see if there was any difference. I can only say that I could not believe the result. My skin was much more even and above all much more luminous!. I'm not a dermatologist or a chemist, so I don't question your expertise, which I think is huge, that's why I always watch your reviews. But this time my experience can't be more different than your opinion.

This has a very interesting contrast to Dr Dray's recent video of Inkey list products. Both brands have the same marketing, but clearly Dr. Dray seems bias towards the Ordinary. It would be helpful if Dr. Dray could suggest a few options for correctly mixing the powder, providing the solutions, rather than ONLY telling us all the "don'ts". Thanks for reading!

This Vit C powder is actually excellent when used as a 1 to 2 minute mask. Vit C does not take long to absorb. I mix it with an oil, or gentle cleanser, massage it in with a bit of water if necessary, let it sit about a minute or so and then wash it off. It brightens and helps with texture and pores. An excellent tip I learned from the Deciem discussion board. Very effective, and avoids oxidation storage problems since you are only mixing up a bit at a time. Very affordable , excellent way to absorb some C then wash it off to avoid irritation. HOWEVER, I definitely would not attempt to mix up a leave- on mixture, I would not leave it on --you could burn skin if not done perfectly. Rinsing off is fine.

The ordinary does list the pH of all their products on their website and they do have very detailed instructions on how to use the powder. I don't plan to ever buy it (I use their 23% ascorbic acid solution and would love to hear your thoughts on it) but I think they intended the powder to be used by people who have a good understanding of skincare. Also with the droppers - you're mean to put it in your hands and then distribute on your face. People just use them wrong. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Well, I was using The Ordinary LAA powder since december last year and, after I incorporated it in my routine, my spots are REALLY almost gone and my skins tone is more even and brighten.. I know that is has a Ph level of 3.5 and, we dont know the Ph level after we mix it with, whatever we mix it but, it worked for me... I began with 1/4 spoon , then 1/2 spoon and then, one spoon, mixing with their Ferulic Reaveratrol Serum and using as first step of skincare, and, after that, no other active ingredients, just moisturize.. Now, sometimes I mix it with Hada Labo Hydrating Lotion No.1, as my first skincare step. I am happy with the results and, I must say that, after I incorporated this Vit C in my routine, although I had a skincare routine and regimen, I have noticed the difference. My skin is definitelly brighter and more firm, I fell that is "boosts" some collagen 😊

@@srishtisharma4207 Buy any LAA powder, there's one on iHerb and on Amazon if want to use it. It's dirt cheap component, Ordinary's is very overpriced. The problem with vitamin C is not the fact that it's hard to produce, the problem is what Dr. Dray is talking about - ensuring it's stability over longer period of time. So The Ordinary is just scamming people out of money using the reputation of a brand as "cheap". Their other things are cheap, LAA powder is golden. They are selling the power because it stays stable in that form. Putting it in a product and having it it on a self makes it a lot less likely to work well if at all. Im sure you know that and it's strange you are acting like you have no idea why they sell it separately. Yes its dangerous if you use too much but thats with anything you buy is dangerous if you use too much. Lol its hilarious how fake you seem. So many people including myself have amazing results. The issue is logical: in order to be effective, L-ascorbic acid powder needs to be dissolved completely, within minutes of using it because it degrades very fast, in an acidic medium (e.g. ferulic acid) and in the ideal concentration (10%-20%). The complex measuring and mixing process must be repeated for each application. Most people don’t have lab-type highly accurate scales and pH measuring strips to create such a solution. As a consequence, even though the powder is inexpensive, it is 100% useless if the proper concentration and pH are not achieved and then applied evenly to the skin within minutes and away from UV light. It explains why the patent protected Skinceuticals solution is so expensive.

Argh the powder format was appealing in that I thought it would be more stable. I mix it with some moisturizing toner and have had good results, but will start researching an alternative for my next Vit C purchase, thank you! (EDIT) I just remembered before my stepdad retired as a dermatologist he used to visit the conventions and supplied me with incredible samples. I think it was the late '90s when some company introduced the C powder concept and I had several of these samples (can't remember the brand but they were in delightful blue glass bottles). The conferences were definitely limited to dermatologists, so while I'm sure studies have now shown powders aren't effective or as effective as other formulas, I was still operating under the assumption that they were ok because of this memory.

@@glesendamettelerkamp4960 Hi there. Unfortunately very few of her recommended products are available in SA so I look at the ingredients lists before I purchase. Tretinoin/Differin NOT available over the counter (I've checked). For hyperpigmentation my derm recommended Biluma. I personally used Avene D-Pigment and Eucerin Even Pigment Spot corrector. It took a few months but I was diligent and it worked. I'm trying to convince my derm to provide me with a script for Tretinoin, he's reluctant. I may have to purchase Differen via Amazon. Products I use: I double cleanse - Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water (pink lid), Eucerin DermatoCLEAN Mild Cleansing MILK in winter & the GEL in summer. If I wear make-up I use Simple Hydrating Cleansing Oil instead of Garnier. Toner - (not necessary but I love it) Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner - Dr Dray reviewed some of their products. I like The Ordinary & use the following - Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2%, Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5, Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% & I will soon incorporate Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% into my routine. Dr Dray doesn't use Vitamin C but I found it made a difference to my skin. Day moisturizer - Eucerin Q10 Active. Night moisturizer - Neutrogena Ageless Intensives Anti-Wrinkle Cream with Retinol SA (it stings a little). Lips - Eucerin Aquaphor soothing skin balm. Body - Mixa Soothing Body Lotion for Dry & Sensitive Skin. Sunblock - I love sunblock so I try several but my favourites are Eucerin Sun Fluid Sensitive Protect (summer), Eucerin Sun Creme Tinted Photoaging Control (winter), La Roche-Posay Anthelios Fluide Invisble, Australian Gold Botanical Tinted Face Sunscreen and BioNike Defence Sun Melting Cream (this contains Niacinimide). All my sunscreens as SPF 50 and all my products I introduced into my skincare regime one at a time and very slowly. All products are available at Dischem except for the following: Pyunkang Yul I buy online at Glow Theory (local supplier specializing in Korean skin care brands, very good ligit products). The Ordinary I buy online directly from Deciem. Australian Gold I buy online from Amazon. I have three daughters with different skin types & concerns so I purchase different products for them. All above products are fragrance free. My skin type is sensitive/normal to combination but with the Jhb Winter it does get drier. Hope this helped.

Dearest Dr Dray, I WOULD LOVE YOUR REVIEW of The Ordinary's ascorbic acid 8% solution (with 2% alpha arbutin I don't care about). 💗Since it is an anhydrous solution and not a suspension that can crystallise like their 23% and 30% suspensions, I was wondering if this was good. Though I worry the 90% propanediol content would be super irritating for the eye area. Also. I heard that ferulic acid stabilises ascorbic acid because it is a UV absorber, and that consequently a regular sunscreen would do the the same if not a better job at stabilising ascorbic acid. Love your videos always! 💯🙏🏽💗

I have been using this vitamin c face serum by riceberry littleextra for a few months now, and I'm truly impressed with the outcomes. It's become an essential part of my daily skincare routine. Over time, the serum has visibly decreased the size of my pores and diminished dark spots. It's fantastic for my sensitive skin. One of the best things about this serum is its light, non-greasy texture. It absorbs quickly, making my skin feel rejuvenated without any oily residue. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a brighter, more even complexion, especially with the benefits of black rice water. This serum is soft enough even for sensitive skin. After applying the face serum, I follow up with riceberry sunscreen, which contains niacinamide and kojic acid, These have helped me even further reduce dark spots. Also, doing yoga everyday helps keep up my skin's elasticity.

I agree Dr.Dray! It's not that "it doesn't work", its just that Vitamin C products are very unstable so the efficacy will vary from person to another (based on their own skin's pH level, and the pH of whatever product they mix it in). So whatever works for one person, may or may not work for another person! because of the pH difference, and any other "active" ingredients that get into the mix.

Thank you Dr. Dray for guidance in the jungle of cosmetic products! I really love you Chanel. But I must say I had great results with vit C powder. Few years ago I was using l Ascorbic acid powder (not knowing TO at the time) mixed with injections water and few drops of vitamin e - that was all actives i was using at the time on my skin. Let me tell u- that was magic! I didn’t see it so clearly as I saw my self each day, but my mom and couple of my friends could not believe what they see. They all asked me what happened to my wrinkles, where are they? I was using 20% of VC - bit hard to dissolve but after some time it was done. I was mixing 5 ml at the time and kept it in the fridge. So I think whatever docs say we r free to try. If someone says it is dangerous- yep it may be for some people... like most of the things. Good luck to everyone! I should mention I was building up my skins tolerance slowly, I didn’t just splash 20 % solution of VC on my skin out of the blue.

I bought it a few months ago without doing my research and i'm stuck with it now. I tried it in every way possible, thankfully it never irritated me and i can see some difference in my skin texture and PIE whenever i apply it regularly. I tried the one minute mask where i mix 1/4 spoon with 1 spoon of toner or just water and massage it for a minute before rinsing it away because it's believed that it gets absorbed in 20 to 30seconds and that the skin absorbs a 20% concentration and the rest just stays and oxidizes on top of ur skin , i noticed that my skin did have a nice glow with this method but it could also be mild exfoliations because of the acidic ph. Then i read somewhere that people were using it to create their own "skinceuticals", so i started mixing it ( just the tiniest little bit with the back of the spoon ) with ferulic acid and alpha arbutin from the same brand and top it with the klairs vitamin E sleeping mask, again my skin was glowwing the next day, but i decided i wanted to use vitamin C in the mornings because i want to up my retinol nights. That's when i read somewhere that people are using it as a 30 min mask, because the ph is very acidic and it actually needs 30 minutes for ur skin to slowly neutralise, and that's when u rinse it away ( now that I'm writing this i realise it doesn't really sound right lmao ), i only did it this morning so i still dk how it's gonna work though. I only use vitamin C once every 3 days, and though it is a lot of work, i notice that when i don't apply it at all my skin looks dull and my acne scars take longer to lighten. I still wanna try the labmuffin's method of mixing enough for a week because that way there are less chances of getting the doses wrong, i'm just waiting for an empty bottle. I do realize this is not for everyone and it's maybe not effective at all and the results i'm getting may all be from the products i'm mixing it with, so i'm just making do with what i have until i can buy a trusted formula when the shipping is available again ( damn u covid )!

I'm pretty serious about my skincare as I suffered from acne for years in my youth. Vitamin C is one popular ingredient that I've decided to pass on.

IT TURNED ME ORANGE...IN THE TRASH! If I had the money I would use Skinceuticals because I’ve used samples and liked the effect on my skin. I’ve also used CC Melano that contains ascorbic acid, another more stable form of vitamin C, and vitamin E which has a bit of a brightening effect and has lightened some dark spots but they don’t divulge the percentage of vitamin C and it hasn’t completely eliminated the darker spots. It appears to be quite stable, is packaged in a tube that prevents exposure to air & light, is fairly inexpensive, and didn’t turn me orange nor does the product itself turn darker. Michelle (Labmuffin) has talked a lot about how unstable vitamin C is and the need for it to be a low pH. She recently posted a photo of herself on Instagram with beautiful glowing skin and said she’d been using Avene A-OXitive Antioxidant Defense Serum that claims to contain an advanced complex of time-released vitamin C & E precursors. It’s about one third of the cost of Skinceuticals and I may give it a try. I definitely won’t be trying anymore vitamin C from The Ordinary and am now only using a few of their products. With a few exceptions they’re simply not worth it even though they’re quite inexpensive.

I love your channel, Dr Dray! So glad I've found you. I'm a total product junkie, and I'd love to see how you organize your bathroom to accommodate all the products you must have. If you don't already have a video like this, would you consider making one? Cheers!

oh my god, I'm concerned now. Here in Brazil we have a brand called Principia, that people say that is the sister of The Ordinaty, so they do the same products. Principia just released a Vic C Powder and everybody is so happy and excited, I'm sure that nobody knows what you said here 😳

Not suggesting you're wrong, but do you not find the anecdotal rave reviews compelling?
