QUESTION: Most of the musicians have headphones. Are they getting different mixes of what's being recorded in the room? A mix of live and prior stubs and tracks to better fit in with the full piece? I would normally think orchestral players would just listen live to the room.

So whenever I have had recording sessions, most players like to have the click( metronome) playing in headphones. And some times they will also want the mock up playing, usually of there part. If you are recording multiple sessions, then you will put the other recordings in the headphones as well. I had one session where there were synths and piano playing under the string parts. So the players wanted to hear those as wells. But, It kind of depends on the players and mixers preference tho.

@@yousefyaqub661 I guess hearing the click track makes sense. Normally, orchestral players are watching the conductor but that's for material that's more familiar to them. In these sessions, I'm guessing the sight-reading share is near 100% so they need to focus on the sheet music more intently and don't want to look up to the conductor to find the downbeats.
