I consider myself a Buddhist. Every night before bed, I meditate to get myself into a calm state of mind. I've been doing this for about three years now, and I enjoy every second of it.

what is meditation and how exactly do you do it?
@kidbonesonline

@@aquavina4142 that's a good question. While I'm not an expert on the topic of meditation, I can give you a brief rundown. Meditation is the practice of calming your mind, body and soul. Think of it as one of those spiritual cleanses everyone talks about. As far as how to do it, you sit with your legs crossed, palms facing upward, and your nose pointed to the East. Some Buddhists chant while meditating, but I don't because it distracts me from my goal of relaxation.

@@kidbonesonlinethat's more like Hindu practice, the Buddhist in my country does not do that. They focused on charity and the effort to help people overcome their poverty, illness, old age and death. In a way, it opened the 8 path mentioned in the scripture. They do chant sutras sometimes, but they say that the meditation is in their actions to help people. I guess there's too many sects to even know what original teaching they have to follow.

If you acknowledged the 4 truth, and follow the 8 path, you're a Buddhist... If not, you're just doing yoga, which is derived from Hindu practice.

Most westerners can never understand Buddhism whatever they claim, the rise of Buddhism is very much entangled with the society of India which was very much based on Varna system and casteism later, Indian society always divided people on the basis of birth in a caste based hierarchy and Buddhism was one of the first ideology which denied divine birth of caste or Varna hence caste based hierarchy, thats the exact reason why it became so popular in India and later on destroyed by feudalistic power of medieval age

The story have 4 mistakes 1) There was not a large white elephant with six ivories but white elephant calf with lotus in his trunk 2) Destination of Mahamaya wasnt lumbini but her parents house. 3) Siddhartha not went after Rahula born but before to see the city first time in middle of journey he got the news of his son was born 4) There four people he saw first time in the city an old man,ill person , dead man and a monk/hermit respectively . But the stories may be varied in different countries .Nice video Im a buddhist from Sri Lanka ❤

Apart from the fictions people telling . He Was the most realistic person during his time. He didnt believed in the existence of God neither believed in the spirit or after life. He was more focused on the way of living. He considered his teachings as a raft to cross this turbulent river of life and suffering. He never said his followers to devote him. Buddha ❤

Buddha's followers often said that he didn't believe in the existence of God, and he denied the existence of the afterlife, but I digress. By the time Buddhism reached China, many of the original teaching was lost, or integrated with local beliefs, and this further separates the religion into sects. Until there's an irrefutable evidence that was recorded by the first disciples from Buddha's own mouth, that survived to this day, we may never know for sure what type of God he believed in, and what's his status on the afterlife. All the books that we have today was written by someone who doesn't live in his time, so they're prone to syncretism with Hinduism or traditional Chinese beliefs. So, looking at the modern teaching, we can't see the true story of what Buddha came to teach.

@@kairinase who said he denied afterlife. Buddhist since Buddha's time had a firm belief in the afterlife. Infact there said to be six realms of existence where a person can be reborn. They are - Deva loka( abode of the gods), Asura loka(abode of warlike demigods), manusya loka (the human world) tiryagloka (the realm of animals. Buddhist believe that animals exist in different realm psychological realm while physically sharing the earth with humans), pretaloka ( realm of hungry ghosts) and Naraka (the hellish realms). These are called the six paths.

@@kairinasebruh... you mentioned about Mahayana Buddhism, that's why you mentioned China. In the Theravada Buddhism, the Nikaya book/scriptures showed that god not a creator. Remember, Nikaya were the oldest scriptures in Buddhism and more accurate to the teaching of Buddha. You can not find any "Buddhism canon" from Mahayana scripture cause they were change by Bon religion and Chinese religion.

You can have both.... This is not the actual origin story. Siddhartha was born in Thailand and was not a God or any sort of mythical being. The actual " Buddah" which simply means the enlightened one taught people how to live in harmony with nature, to have compassion for their fellow human being, and how to have more control over their minds.... When u see monks or anyone who practices Buddhism bow to the statue of Siddhartha it is NOT worship but to give thanks to their teacher. Siddhartha himself had respect for Jesus... As I said THEY BOTH EXISTED. Please do some research before showing such ignorance. I accept Jesus as my lord and Savior but I also think Siddhartha was a wonderful human being and also a good teacher. Always remember he was a normal human being who did not consider himself a God, and simply wanted to understand the root and cause of human suffering.

Actually, Buddhism was born in Thailand not India. The person who made the world believe wrongly that Buddhism originated in India is "Alexander Cunningham", British historian (1814-1893), author of a history book that moved the origins of Buddhism to start in India. At that time, the British came to colonize South Asia. So, the world must accept that Buddhism was born in India through his books. But before his books , no one knew where Buddhism originated. In India, there is no evidence that is consistent with what is written in Buddhism scriptures. For example, Buddha spoke of 3 seasons : hot, rainy, and cold. There are important religious ceremonies before and after the rainy season, which corresponds to the tropical region of Thailand. But in India, the area is claimed to be the birthplace of Buddhism. It is north of India , temperate region. There are 4 seasons , no rainy season. Buddhists in India have used a religious calendar to perform rituals according to the Thai Buddhist calendar since ancient times and etc.
