The modern war on Christmas is waged by secularists, but did you know the original war on Christmas was actually waged by Christians? Have you ever wondered how the first American settlers celebrated Christmas? It might surprise you to find out that they didn’t.

Great video. I am from Romania and I recently discovered "Unlearn". I am very amazed and happy to see more Christians who keep the torah and reject the pagan mainstream holidays and habits. In Romania we are about 1000 christians who keep the torah ( Shabbat, the biblical feasts, kosher food..). God bless you for all the work you do spreading the truth. Keep it up and never get discouraged by the negative comments. In Europe there are Christians like us in almost every country and the people who are sincerely looking for the truth will find it.

I found this video of yours very interesting and learned some things. I am a practicing Norse pagan and learning about the early Protestant reformers was very interesting. Please keep up the good work your videos are very informative of Christian point of view that I don't often hear. I do personally dislike the materialistic aspects of Christmas if one gives a gift it should be from the heart and be meaningful and also not given out of the idea that one is obligated to do so and one should not expect a gift during certain times of year just because it is a holiday. Like I said earlier keep up the good work I find you interesting and informative.

Great video Lex. Why we celebrate Christmas in late December still is crazy imho. Joseph and Mary were traveling due to the Roman census. The Romans were doing a census to know how much to tax regions/people, not to kill them in the dead of winter, thereby losing their income. The fact that someone took the time to figure out that Yeshua was born on September 11th, 3 BCE truly should be widely known by now (and also show why September 11th, 2001 wasn't just a political attack), but I suppose the Roman Catholic Church doesn't want that info to get out Oh well.

Gregory Meyer Not exactly. Yahusha voluntarily sacrificed his life so we will stop breaking Torah. Yashar’el which is Yah’s people were divorced. The only way for them to be with the Father is by them being married to His son. It’s about family, marriage, love. His blood is the blood of the renewed covenant. The vows don’t change. He came to save or deliver Yah’s people only. By freeing them from demons and by telling them to stop breaking Torah.

Dylan Young Absolutely NOT! That is Roman Catholic bs!
@pm5206
@pm5206 6 жыл бұрын
Dylan Young Read the Scriptures! Luke and Matthew are 2 different accounts. There are NO 3 “wise” men. Fiction: 3 wise men. Fact: there were an unnumbered number of astronomers from Chaldea (Babylon) who were trained by Daniel over the generations to watch for the sign of the first coming of Yah’s Anointed One (Moshiach or Messiah). 2. Fiction: gifts were given when Yahusha was born. Fact: gifts were presented to the King of Yahudah (Yahusha) because that is eastern practice of paying homage or respect to a king. No one would approach a king (kings can be as young as small children) empty handed. Even pagan kings were treated with respect. Finally, if you actually read the Scriptures, these two events took place about 14 months apart. This is based on historical facts. Also, Yahusha was born during the Feast of Taberncales in September. See Leviticus 23. This can be proven historically and scientifically.

For the record I don't believe that X-Mas has anything to do with Christ........Jeremiah 10 deals with idol worshipping and the Living God. Verses 3-4 is not taking about a X-mas tree; its talking about the idols that were made from wood, thus decorating it with gold and silver. Keep reading the chapter and once you get to verse 8 and beyond its very clear the scripture is talking about decorated wooden idols that the israelites were worshipping.

Because of so many "facts" about Christmas and its origins, I do not know which one is lie and which one is true. I personally would like to celebrate Christmas and celebrate it right. If it is really for the honoring of of the birth of Jesus, then Jesus would be the center -- not Santa Claus, no wreaths, etc -- just thanking God for giving us Jesus, having dinner with family. We didn't hear Jesus rebuke the Jews for celebrating Hanukkah, which is a man-made tradition.

Hi Lex! I’m Rebekah! I’m a teen, and I’ve read the Bible since I was little. Me and my parents go by the Messianic Jewish beliefs, but watch a few SDAs. Are you SDA, or Jewish? They know the origins of Christmas, but instead of encouraging people to “Come out of Babylon”, they say it’s okay to celebrate it, as an opportunity to spread the gospel (based on what E.G. White said). I thought the Bible said “Have NO fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them”(Ephesians 5:11). Tell us more about why not to celebrate the day!

Great job....I differ slightly on this....I would hope not enough to create a wedge......but my thoughts. Your 100% right...Christmas or December 25th has no Biblical authority....and anyone who claims that the Bible teaches us to set aside a day to celebrate Christs birth is a false teacher. I also respect the original Protestants that fought to get away from the added traditions of men.....believing Mary Sinless, giving infallible authority to the Pope, praying to the dead, and other practices including forbidding Priests to marry have wreaked HAVOC on the church.....so as my Grandmother used to tell me....avoid the appearance of evil.....so if those Protestants thought celebrating Christmas was a line they didnt want to cross....respect. However the lens needs to be slightly adjusted in todays world. Reason being.....back then it was basically ASSUMED Christ was Lord....ASSUMED the Bible and its teachings were true....and as a nation we truly were by most standards.....under God. As time progressed the Bible was removed from our schools....removed from our court rooms and public displays.... public prayer in schools was slowly forbidden....and the mention of Christ snuffed out of the public arena. So basically what happened is Protestant Christians....in a an already weakened state began trying to desperately CLING to Christ....and Christmas was about all that was left. Now is it a materialistic travesty? Yes.....but I must admit its the one time of year other than Easter that MANY people actually begin to question.....is their a God.....who was Jesus.....and there is at least a war on SOMETHING for us Christians to rally around. So although personally I dont think we should ever claim its Biblical......I do believe that we should be able to celebrate the birth of Jesus/Yeshua....why not? Better than what most want to do on that day......buy a bunch of frivilous gifts and gorge on food....its not like they are going to stop doing that? They just Jesus out of it.....completely. So again I differ a little from you.....and thats okay....I see your reasoning.....but I also see the desperation of Christians today.....fighting for even one ounce of respect and acknowledgement for our Lord and Savior in the public arena. Let them fight......and let them win!

Brad C I agree with you that the meaning of Christmas can change over time. Symbols can and do change over time. The Nazi symbol, for example, had previously been associated with peace before it was taken up by the Nazi party, and now... it will never again mean anything besides bloodshed, tragedy, and the depths to which the human spirit can descend into evil. Likewise, Christmas can change its meaning from a holiday Christians associated with paganism, to a holiday that Coca-Cola and other corporations associated with “family” values and their products in order to increase their profits. But many Christians today have made it a point to celebrate Christmas in worship of and reverence to our Lord Jesus Christ, Yeshua. Clearly the meaning can and has changed. So I agree with you here. One thing though... our country has been many things, but “Under God” was originally not a part of our pledge of allegiance. Moreover, “In God We Trust” wasn’t our motto; the Masonic “E Pluribus Unum” was. I think I wrote that correctly... anyway, references to God in our currency, public places, were added in the 50s as a way to differentiate ourselves from the Commies during those days. The communists were atheistic, but we, Capitalist America, were theistic. We had to separate ourselves from them. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing we did that, but I’m just saying that many people mistakenly believe that’s how America always was. Unfortunately, no, we have not always been a “Christian” nation, even if we were in the beginning made up of many Christian people.

I celebrate and worship my Lord and saviour everyday. Why should December 25th be any different? We all know the traditional day is based on the Pagan festival of Saturnalia. All ealy people had somekind of Winter festival, as it brought joy to the coldest and darkest of the seasons. All the more reason then to openly spread the word of our Lord, for only in Him can we find salvation. My Wife and kids love Christmas with all the trimmings and naff decorations. I do not, but I do not deprive them of their fun. Whatever you believe or choose to do this December 25th, it is a time for love, family, and charity. Blessings

The problem with the theory that Christmas has pagan roots is that the pagan holiday was only created in 274 while Christians [might have] celebrated Christmas on that day for as much as a century earlier (the exact date of origin is unknown). The paper “Early Christian Chronology and the Origins of the Christmas Date In Defense of the Calculation Theory“ explains the so called calculation theory of Christmas.

Liz P. I'm quite confident that the food we ate wasn't dedicated to idols but I can't be positive. Nonetheless, as the scripture mentions, we know that an idol is nothing and food received with thanksgiving is ok to eat. So to skip out on a nice time and good food because some say I'm partaking in some kind of idol worship or causing others to sin is a stretch to far in my eyes. But heck, everyone does what seems right in their sight, as the book of judges always warned. Everyone stands or falls at the feet of their Master. You and others have warned us, any possible blood is off your hands. Not that it matters much but my immediate family and myself don't celebrate Christmas, mostly cuz it doesn't mean much to us. My twin sisters are born on Christmas day and younger brother 3 days after so I'm happy for this time for that reason. Grace and peace to you.

_"Have you ever wondered how the first American settlers celebrated Christmas? It might surprise you to find out that they didn’t."_ I'd say Leif Eriksson, being a Christian, that is Roman Catholic, Viking did. I'd say Columbus, Bobadilla, Ovando, Diego Columbus, Mendoza, being Christian, that is Roman Catholic, one Italian and several Spaniards, did. Or did you mean the Palaeo-Indians? Since they settled in the post-Flood lifespan of Noah, there was not yet any Incarnation of God the Son to celebrate. Or did you mean the guys on Mayflower? Well, they were neither very Christian, nor very original settlers, even as Europeans go. They would probably have killed you for keeping the Sabbath and for refusing Baptism of infants. You see, they didn't flee from a situation in which they were very actively persecuted, they fled from one in which they were not very able to persecute Catholics and Baptists under the later Stuarts as they had been able to under Elisabeth and James VI and I.

Christians appropriated (took for there own use without regard to the truth from which it was derived) Christmas which originated as a Pagan celebration of Winter Solstice just as the Homosexuals appropriated the Rainbow flag as their banner which was originally a symbol of Gods covenant with Noah. When people tell me Merry Christmas i respond with "Thank you but I'm not Pagan."

2:12 _"This is why it is no surprise that the first states to legalise Christmas were the southern states of Alabama, Louisiana and Arkansas."_ It wasn't a question of "legalising" as if it had ever been outlawed there. It may have been a question of making it legally a holiday. As in outlawing business on Christmas. Let's take Alabama. _"With exploration in the 16th century, the Spanish were the first Europeans to reach Alabama. The expedition of Hernando de Soto passed through Mabila and other parts of the state in 1540."_ 1540 was definitely before Mayflower. _"More than 160 years later, the French founded the region's first European settlement at Old Mobile in 1702."_ Ah ... were they likely to celebrate Christmas? I certainly think they were! _"After the French lost to the British in the Seven Years' War, it became part of British West Florida from 1763 to 1783. After the United States victory in the American Revolutionary War, the territory was divided between the United States and Spain. The latter retained control of this western territory from 1783 until the surrender of the Spanish garrison at Mobile to U.S. forces on April 13, 1813."_ So, Alabama was at least fairly well guarenteed to celebrate Christmas up to 1813.

*_Thank you for the video. I just woke up thinking about this modern war I've been seeing on Christmas. It sounds more like Pharisees were against Christmas. It is a part of our culture which God gives grace for. Sadly, the church is joining secularists and globalists in tearing down the cultural events of this country. We should give no holiday to the devil yet use it for Gods glory. Use wisdom. How many people have gotten saved at Christmas time and how many people have found hope and experienced the love of God around Christmas. So I say, use it for good. God gives grace and people who persecute Christmas do not understand Gods grace and are not using wisdom on how to use this time for His glory. Just something to think about._*

Most people who celebrate Christmas do not worship Jesus as their Lord. The Puritans were reacting against the excesses of the 16th and 17th century celebrations...perhaps we need to follow their example again given that God can't be pleased with the blatant sin which surrounds the celebration of the birth of Jesus in the 21st Century...

I understand the deep feelings and concerns, but I cannot find any RELIABLE, PRIMARY sources showing that Christmas has origins in paganism. Unlearn, do you have any? What I have studied shows that these supposed pagan origins are quite dubious. That said, I agree with the sentiment that Christmas has become so secular and materialistic that it departs so heavily from the intent.

CHARLES SPURGEON SERMON ON DEC. 24 1871 “We have no superstitious regard for times and seasons. Certainly we do not believe in the present ecclesiastical arrangement called Christmas. First, because we do not believe in the mass at all, but abhor it, whether it be sung in Latin or in English; and secondly, because we find no Scriptural warrant whatever for observing any day as the birthday of the Savior; and consequently, its observance is a superstition, because not of divine authority. Superstition has fixed most positively the day of our Savior’s birth, although there is no possibility of discovering when it occurred. … It was not till the middle of the third century that any part of the church celebrated the nativity of our Lord; and it was not till very long after the Western church had set the example, that the Eastern adopted it. … Probably the fact is that the “holy” days were arranged to fit in with the heathen festivals. We venture to assert, that if there be any day in the year, of which we may be pretty sure that it was not the day on which the Savior was born, it is the twenty-fifth of December. Nevertheless since, the current of men’s thoughts is led this way just now, and I see no evil in the current itself, I shall launch the bark of our discourse upon that stream, and make use of the fact, which I shall neither justify nor condemn, by endeavoring to lead your thoughts in the same direction. Since it is lawful, and even laudable, to meditate upon the incarnation of the Lord upon any day in the year, it cannot be in the power of other men’s superstitions to render such a meditation improper for to-day. Regarding not the day, let us, nevertheless, give God thanks for the gift of His dear Son.”

Ok, let’s cancel Christmas. Any pastor or preacher worth his salt will tell his flock that Christ was not born on Christmas Day. We also understand that Christmas Day seems to have a pagan origin. Fine, but can we not celebrate the fact that Christ was born to save us from our sins?. I personally don’t put up Christmas trees or celebrate Santa, but again is this a salvation issue?

You don’t have to celebrate paganistic practices. The celebration of Christmas isn’t pagan. The practices of how it’s done can be. No day (absolutely none) belongs to Satan. All days were created by God for us and deemed “good”. Satan loves to twists God’s truth. An atheist or pagan can sing a gospel song and even quite scripture. But that doesn’t make him a Christian. A Christian can take what Satan meant as bad and glorify God. The Bible is mostly a reactionary text to make us unlearn the lies (minor pun intended) of Satan. We as Christians can Christianize evil practices. As long as that practice isn’t sin. Is it sin to celebrate Christ? Why is it sin to celebrate Christmas? It is not.

Tyler Meers It’s all pagan. The satan claws was originally a pagan idol named Odin. All the pagan religions are fallen angel and their children being worshipped before the flood. You have to understand this to know why the world is the way it is. The Scriptures explains this if you have all the books. Like Enoch, Jubilees. The satan claws charcuterie became the man in a red suit in the 1930s when Coca-Cola wanted to sell more soda in the winter time. They made the suit red and attracted millions of customers.

Pm פיטרוש מיכאל What about Saint Nicholas? Since Coca-Cola commercialized the fat, jolly, and happy Father Christmas as a way to market, it proved to be a great strategy to increase sales. I guess it is obvious that Father Christmas, whose street name is Santa Claus, threatened Jesus' reign over his mighty tinsel Kingdom, since Father Christmas was used as a bribe for children to behave. Jesus couldn't be used anymore because all he was offering was eternal salvation. So when Father Christmas came on the scene with presents as bribes for children to behave it was game over for Jesus. Jesus had to accept a lower ranking in the global icon industry, I thought that the Pagans worshipped nature and their year revolved around two events, one of which was called the winter soltises. Apparently on that day the Sun appears to stop moving on the horizon, but we're not meant to look at it since it makes us go blind, but the pagans looked at it. As well as blinding themselves, the pagans collected a giant Yule Log and dragged it into their homes along with mistletoe and other plants. It sounds like rubbish but back then killing plants was as good as entertainment got for the pagans. Thought the primary purpose of my question is to find out who is Saint Nicholas?
