“What’s in the cloth” was unexpected and took me out completely! Lol

12:45 they have banned the technology and thinking machines, the world of Dune has stagnated in terms of technology. That is why it looks the same.

My theory, Desmond Hart was given a gift by the worm that made him an early version of the Kwisatz Haderach 10,148 years before Paul born to disrupt the Sisterhood, the early version of the Bene Gesserit. We know House Harkonen, House Carrino (The Emperor), and House Atreides all exist 10,000+ years into the future. How much can you make a personal shield change in 10,000 years if they work? I mean in the movies the Barrons shield was on his finger, Paul wore it on his palm, in this show it was a belt buckle, so the technology did get smaller.

39:10 House Corrino rule the empire in this show, and in the two Dune movies. Mark Strong's character is the ancestor of Chris Walken's character

Technically, all the Atreides, Harkonnens and Corrinos are descendent from the all the characters in this show with any of those last names. Between BG breeding and feudal politics, all the houses in the landsraad have interbred.

We decided to have all the Pasty Harkonenn (because of the wonky Sun in Geidi Prime we saw in Dune) to become random diverse people. Otherwise, most stuff follows (precedes) the movies fairly well.

If you don't want too much talky-talky, this ain't for you then. Dune is all about politics and machinations behind the scenes. 'Talky-talky' is what makes Dune Dune. This is what makes shows like GoT great too. Not saying it is the same quality, but behind the scenes talky-talky is what makes these stuff great.

I think what he's saying is..the "talky talky" is not intriguing. GoT's politics was intriguing. This might have come first but the back and forth was meh at best.

Wasn't it? I found it really interesting with the world building. Surely not in the same level, but it wasn't bland or boring or meh imo@@believeume122

We know that the book was very much exposition overload, which is why it was seen as unadaptable. Also exposition is more acceptable in text because you don’t have the option of visual exposition. But Dennis showed that it is adaptable bc he reduced the exposition in my opinion and trusted the audience to enjoy the world he thrusted them in. This show in the first episode used his character like talking pieces. It made him boring 🥱. Also what is it with the extreme tonal shift when we get to the heir? Is this a space adult féodal drama or a teen drama. They should have made the choice before putting it on our tvs. They didn’t have to start with Valya killing Dorothea. We should have started 30 years in the future with them prepping for the princess’ arrival and more. We could discover what she did at another time in the series… Also making Valya “invent” the voice is 🤕 (dumb). Before you come from me, the specific trilogy that inspired this show wasn’t written by Frank Herbert. I have many more issues with that specific trilogy and the pilot of this show but I have said enough.

The way to pronounce the movie directors name: Denis = Deni (the s is silent) Villenueve (Villa -Nuvvah)

I give her like a C. Because I think alot of people will not return to watch this. I'm interested and I would still just play it in the background while I multi task. They could have done way more with visions, quick camera angle changes, and eerie sounds to keep us captivated. It feels like it wasn't done with much passion. But I'll keep watching. FYI: they just finished a war with machines so there will be no technological growth.
