@popstraw879018 күн бұрын
Basically they are part of a race where females are outcastes and treated very poorly. These two are male (up until now ig) and had a child who was born female. There’s a sex change procedure on their home planet which the partner in the darker attire received to be male.
@lauralanthalasa718 күн бұрын
What the person above said plus at first they wanted the ship doctor to perform surgery to make them male but she refused, then they decided to return to their home planet to do it but it would start some kind of conflict so they didn't and the dad (mom?) had a change of heart and now wants to keep the girl. I've also learnt it all from shorts 😂

For anyone confused, this is from the tv show that is a comedy parody series of Star Trek called “the Orville”. (It’s on Hulu btw.) Bordis, the alien in blue is from an all male Alien species. On his planet, they give girls that are born, sex changes, because they believe women are weak. It’s part of their “culture”. They are able to reproduce between two males btw. Klydin is the other alien and is his husband. They had a baby together who was born female. They were first in agreement of giving said baby a sex change, but then the crew of the ship managed to convince bordis otherwise after having him watch Rudolph the red nose rain deer. He saw how Rudolph was born different and how he was hated until he then saved Christmas. And that he never would have done so if they changed him when he was born. In the end, they have a court hearing to decide whether or not to go through with the sex change and it’s decided to go through with it because they didn’t want to cause a internal war within the galactic union with said alien planet with said culture. The Alien planet didn’t want the union interfering with their “culture”. Years later (I think… it’s when the alien baby is older, but I’m not sure if they age differently or not, she’s about 15 I think physically), the alien child is male but feels out of place and feels like there’s something wrong with him. He then soon finds out about the initial sex change and decides to have it reversed. It was an extremely weird story line tbh, and I was surprised seeing this type of subject start on like… episode 3 or something. 😅🤷♂️

We humans have some newborn surgery too, for example, sometimes babies are born with a rudimentary fragment of a tail, which our ancestors had, but is long time gone. Such rudimentary things would be removed even without notifying the parents. It doesn't give baby any special abilities, it would never grow into a full functioning tail, it would just make great discomfort in sitting and make a child constantly bullied. Some other defects would also be removed or fixed when a child is born, for example some children are born with a heart defect, it is easily fixed while they are newborns, if it was found out in time, it is pretty common practice in medicine from what i know. Moral of the story? Humans should have learned into a history of such operations and differences between full females and regular males of the species before they would ensure them that this is wrong. It could be some discrimination rooted to deep history, but there is a high chances that to them, it is different than our opinion about them. Because their core biology is completely different. It could be just a genetical defect, that is easily fixable and can save a lot of troubles to the kids later in their life.
@CineView-sdA18 күн бұрын
That's an interesting perspective! The complexities of biology and how we handle them can definitely spark some deep conversations. The show does a great job of exploring these themes in a sci-fi context!😊
